Ame | 1744 comments Until I allow myself to start listening to THYS I'm listening to Christmas Kitsch narrated excellently by Nick J. Russo. I probably said this year ago but I love this audiobook, the narrator does his job splendidly, the book is so funny yet quite heartbreaking. Just a lovely holiday listening. I need to check into more books narrated by him.

I've enjoyed most all of Nick Russo's narrations, even if the books weren't always tops :-D

I bought 4 books: Neverwhere, Clockwork Heart, Portrait of Dorian Grey, and Moon Called.

Elena | 662 comments So I went and made a terrible, terrible mistake. I listened to the samples of the AE audiobooks on audible.

Now a few things are very clear to me:

1. Viv was right, Chris Patton is Adrien.
2. Josh really knows how to choose the best narrators for her books.
3. Whoever chose the sample for DoaPK is evil. Or a genius, depending on who's judging.
4. I should have bought the books on Amazon, because now I want the audios and my wallet is going to hate me. :D

Sometimes it's actually less expensive to buy the Amazon ebooks and the Audible books, even if you already have the ebooks… :)

True. I think I’ll do that for the first two books.

I found 3 credits on the bottom of my Audible account, I forgot I had returned a couple of books because the narrator was terrible, and I thought: “what better use for them than THYS, DoaPK and TDT?”

I had to restart THYS, although I was already halfway through the re-reading, but it’s not a huge sacrifice. :D

:D
It’s funny, because it’s actually the second time that this group leads me to the dark side.

Last year, after reading the Holmes & Moriarity books, I liked them so much that I came here and started reading all your comments, mostly looking for news about the next book’s release date, but also just comments on the series in general.
And you all kept going on and on about how wonderful the audiobooks were, so I decided to try the first, even if I had never listened to an audiobook before. But it was whispersynced and I told myself that if I hated it, I could always pretend I had paid a book I loved a little more than I really had.

Long story short, I’ve listened to those three audiobooks at least five times and I think you should ask Audible for a commission on everything I’ve bought after that first book.

Last year I would have swear audiobooks weren’t for me and you proved me wrong. Until this re-reading I would have swear there was no way the AE audios could change my experience of the series and you proved me wrong again.
So glad I found this place, I’m really looking forward for the next time you’ll accidentally manage to expand my horizons again.

How have I missed this thread in the past? I had read the Adrien English series once last year. Then I decided to listen to the audiobooks. I did not remember how sarcastic Adrien was. I found myself laughing out loud so often due to his observations and I don't remember doing that when I was reading. I am so thrilled that Chris Patton will be doing the audiobook for So This is Christmas.

Can I also say that I loved The Mermaid Murders audiobook too? I thought the narrator did an amazing job.

I look forward to joining the conversation on this thread!

I can sincerely promise you that you won't regret buying them. Also Chris's Jake is absolutely wonderful.

I believe you. Two hours of THYS and I'm already converted. :D
Chris's interpretation of Jake has actually managed to make one of the most painful scene bearable.
I thought it would've been worse to listen to the "bad" parts, but it's better than reading them.
My inner narration when I read must be too dramatic for my own good. :D

I have to especially thank you, Viv. It was your enthusiasm for the AE audios that pushed me to try the samples again.
Thanks :)

Viv | 55 comments You are welcome! Just wait until TDT! I listen to THAT scene over and over. Nobody says "baby" like Chris Patton as Jake. I think I need to go listen to it right now. It helps when THYS and DOAPK get too painful.

Yes it is but at the same time hilariously funny. Like book 2 I just finished reading, I laughed tears over the car scene and Mac's superhero fantasy. One of the funniest scenes I've heard. Than just afterwards the tragic chapter with Viola and Remy, just heartbreaking.

It really well written stories and as much as I've loved Nick J. Russo's narration up until now I have to say this is really the very best I've heard him.

I'm hooked and have started the third book already!

All of it is serious _and_ hilarious, and the end is great:

An arrogant, ill-informed, over-sized oompaloompa. A whinging, braying, misogynistic, know nothing, spunk bubbler. A fuck headed egomaniac with a skull full of fetid shit smelling... yep yep.. Every time I brace myself to watch him on TV I end up reaching for a drink. My God. He's the embodiment of the Ugly American. Ignorant, arrogant, gauche and completely without ethics or principles -- and, I believe, mentally ill.

Hey, but that's just me. Just one woman's opinion. He was duly elected by our fucked up electoral system, so until we change that antiquated piece idiocy this is what we get.
