Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I keep putting those ones off Idamus.. maybe cuz that time period has never been my fav, or the fact I read the first three, and keep flashing back to that time period and just not being in the mood for it yet. I will, one day, since I do own them :-)

Thanks for sharing those. I've never heard of them.

I love OMAM. I was watching some of their interviews and behind the scene videos. They are adorable and they're from Iceland so they have cute accents. ;-)

I love all of the Tiny Desk Concerts. They showcase great artists every week.

I was just reading a fanfic story this week that made me think of "Passenger Seat" by Death Cab for Cutie -- beautiful song and perfect for the story. So then I went on a Death Cab listening spree. I love the old albums but the new one is great, too.

Drove 5 hours to family holdings in southwestern New Mexico on Saturday and 5 hours back again today, and was happy to have Rhys Ford's Black Dog Blues to listen to. It's narrated by Greg Tremblay, who also does her Cole McGinnis series. I may have liked this reading even better than his McGinnis readings, although it's a bit odd to have some of the fae voices sound like Jae Min. : )

I realized how much I am still hoping for a sequel to this urban fantasy, even though it pushes my squicky-factor limits and does go on and on... ; )

I'm currently listening to Babylon's Ark, the story of how one man arrived in war torn Baghdad from South Africa in order to save the exotic zoo animals who'd already been eaten, freed from their cages, or left to die of starvation and neglect when the city's army dug in for war and told the zoo employees they would be shot if they stayed.

Amazing story!

Anytime I need to get into a cleaning mood, I go for 50's rock n' roll stuff, or things like Frankie Vally and the Four Seasons. Upbeat stuff I can sing and dance to that will be sure to keep my energy level up for heavy duty cleaning.

Ame | 1744 comments Some days ago I promised Varecia (oops it was actually VALERIE.... thank you Varecia) to post some of my favorites Icelandic musicians. So here they are. The ones I listen most to right now.

Of Monsters and Men are my biggest favorite right now and I can't wait for their new album.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-PgP...

Retro Stefson are also a huge favorite of mine. I've adored them for years. This is their newest one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63BYu...

But you should totally check out some of their older ones... like Glow (my favorite song of theirs) and Kimba.

Wait... no by biggest favorite is probably Ásgeir Trausti. His songs give me goosebumps and chills, I think they are so beautiful. Please forgive me for posting two of his songs ;)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGJ3a...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH6WQ...

And then this crazy reggae band that I can't stop listening to. They are just too much fun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-G8Y...

Also this crazy musician. His songs are just pure fun and the lyrics are amazing. Too bad you can't understand them because they are the half of his appeal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Zsi4...

Rökkurró is a awesome band as well, they sing both in English and Icelandic and her voice gives me chills all the time (also check out their songs called The backbone and Blue Skies).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y1lx...

Kaleo is a band of young men who play old music ;) Their music is very bluesy for most part and I think I've loved every single song they're recorded. This one is their newest and it's just tantalizing. I thing they're even touring USA right now.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpG9Q...

A band balled Mono Town. Really, really good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxUjQ...

And finally probably my favorite song from last year, an artist that calls himself Júníus Meyvant just jumped on the scene, totally unknown with such quality music I was quite flabbergasted (bit like Ásgeir Trausti who's btw only 22 years old and such mature musician).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBxtx...

Anyway. Sorry for spamming with my favorites, I know my taste is bit strange but this is what I love. And I thought it'd be fun to show that there's a lot of music here besides Björk and Sigurrós. And I didn't even post all the rock music that lives good life here ;)

message 3836: by Alison (new)

Alison | 4756 comments I have listened to a slew of killer good audiobooks over the last few weeks.

Harper Fox's Scrap Metal was absolutely wonderful. The narrator was not at all how I imagined Nichol sounding and he didn't sound particularly Scottish, but he nailed it, regardless. Really excellent work there. Listening to such a beautiful book was really a treat.

I started Psycop and listened to Among the Living and Criss Cross. The narrator is brilliant and I am loving it. He's pretty perfect as Vic in my head. I am excited for more! This series is just as addictive in audio. I haven't re-read the books ever, so it's great fun to revisit and remember the stories this way.

Just finished The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks yesterday and it was also really awesome. Such a good narrator!

I wish I had more Audible credits!

Yes, it was me! This is awesome. Thank you, Ame. :-) I'm going to find time to listen to all of these artists this weekend (between hockey games ;-)).

I am a bit familiar with Ásgeir. I'd only heard his English songs, but I love the songs you posted. Thanks.

Here is Ásgeir's Tiny Desk Concert (I love NPR Music) in case you are interested:
http://www.npr.org/event/music/356901...

I can tell I will love Kaleo just by the song you shared. Looks like they are playing Bonnaroo (big festival here in the US). Very cool music - I want to listen to more of them.

The reggae music made me think of one of my hubby's favorite groups. DH is Italian (Neapolitan) and when we met (back in the 90s) he listened to this Neapolitan reggae/rap group, 99 Posse, all the time. Their music is very catchy, they sing/rap mostly in Neapolitan dialect. :)

99 Posse - Curre Curre Guaglio:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVNgL...

If you like blues you might like Pino Daniele. Also Neapolitan, he is DH's favorite singer/musician ever - sadly, he died earlier this year. I'm most familiar with his older songs.

Here is Pino with Eric Clapton.
Napule e:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZlO0...

I don't know who the current popular Italian artists are (I'm probably stuck in the 90s, LOL), but I like Gigi D'Alessio and Jovanotti.

Serenata Rap by Jovanotti makes me feel nostalgic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MgKG...

Okay, I'll stop now.

Thanks again for sharing your favorites. :)

Listening to more of these this morning. I really like Rökkurró - she does have such a great voice.

I also can't get enough of Kaleo - wish I could go to Bonnaroo. They are just my kind of music! :-)

I have to share this Bonnaroo video because it is probably my most watched YouTube video of my favorite band - The Avett Brothers (indie folk rock). There are probably better quality videos out there of this song but I love their energy in this one. It is a special performance. They are amazing live.

Aw, I'm glad you like them. I just love those guys so much. They do have a lot of influences that come through in their music - bluegrass, country, rock, punk. They both started out in rock bands. I think Scott breaks at least one banjo string during every concert.

Good to hear ;)

My two favorite songs of theirs are actually done in collaberation with other artists. One with Swedish reggae band called Timbuktu, this is one of my all time favorite songs. it's in Swedish.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3YU-...

And then this song with an Icelandic artist called Mugison. Beautiful song, as are most of his songs actually.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWOmZ...

Since I started talking about Mugison, two more of his songs I love (sorry for the low quality but not a lot of videos are available). He's one of the most enigmatic and charismatic live performers I know of. His concerts are always so engaging and so much fun. Hope some of it shows in these videos.
