Such a great narration choice. I listened to it when it came out, and then again a few weeks ago. It just got better. : )

I love, love, love that narrator — Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. I read the American version of the ebook while listening. Some interesting compare/contrasts there.

It took a little getting used to, mostly because of the British accent, but I think he's doing a pretty good job.

I haven't listened to Ghost of a Chance yet. But he does Kit so well, that I could get into him doing something else, like GOAC. I think. When I start listening to it, we'll see.

I really liked Cards on the Table, but I still haven't gone back to finish listening to it, just because of the narrator. I will eventually though.

It seems that is the reason for the special prise. I checked out my AE audiobooks and they also have special prise of 1,99. So it's probably because I already own the kindle book.

I was so excited to see this that I nearly bought it without listening to the sample. But I did listen to it, and it is read in an Irish accent. I wondered if my memory was at fault, and checked that yes, Scrap Metal is set on a Scottish island. I also checked that I wasn't mishearing the accent and yes, Sean Gormley is originally from Ireland. Maybe they confused Arran with Aran?

I just do not understand why publishers appear to be unwilling to or incapable of using voice actors from the right place to narrate audiobooks.

ETA I've just read Harper's blog post on the new audiobook, and she is very pleased with it:

"Narrator Sean Gormley has done an amazing job. I always find it thoroughly unsettling to experience my words “off-paper”, and I inevitably skip past the sex scenes (it is possible to die of embarrassment, you know), but I am really delighted by this production. Sean has a great voice and conjures the atmosphere of Arran brilliantly."

Uh?

I was already glad that Harper was happy with the narrator. I know that she wanted someone able to do properly the Scottish Gaelic bits and she was happy when Sean Gormley was chosen.

I've heard that accent... When I was in Scotland! :) Yes I'm stubborn, and I say it's a Scots accent. One of the many variations of it.

They really needed a British voice for Life After Joe. One that has an ear for Northern English accents.

Scrap Metal is going well. The narrator is a bit older sounding than I'd want him to be. Otherwise, I'm caught up in the story.

I finished The Charioteer yesterday. It was good. Very good. Though now I'm trying to work my way through the BOM discussion some of you had without me a while back. It's helping me to understand some of what went on. lol. I do think the narrator was a good choice. It just took some getting used to in the beginning, I guess.

I started The Persian Boy in audio yesterday as well. I'm loving it. A great narrator and a great story. And everything is spelled out. lol. No guessing what's going on or what they're actually saying.

I also got a chance to relisten to In Plain Sight yesterday on my afternoon walk. But in the middle of it I realized I'd gotten a call from my land lady and had to call her back. After that I was a bit distracted while listening to the end. So, I might have to relisten to it again soon. I do so love that story. So sweet at the end. I love when he says "You're raining." :-)

Becky Black (beckyblack) I'm listening to #3 of the Henry Rios mysteries, Howtown. It's rough listening, since there's a lot of talk about pedophilia and characters who are pedophiles. But if you're going to write a series about a criminal defence lawyer you've got to explore what it's like for them to have to have dealings with people who've done indefensible things.

Howtown was painful to read. Very good writing, but the subject was depressing. So many tough, frustrating things going on in this one that the tone of the book was somewhat angry — or at least that's how it felt for me. I liked it, but I was relieved that all of the books in the series weren't quite as dark as this.

O.O How is that even possible? When did I buy all of them? Most of them are Josh's btw. How is that possible? There are so many! And all of them soo good. *decisionsdecisions*

I was looking for something to listen too after I finish my current one. Johanna said Slings and Arrows on the other topic. I'm thinking about The Haunted Heart: Winter The Haunted Heart Winter (The Haunted Heart, #1) by Josh Lanyon . I feel like getting my heart broken. Again...
And it's set around Valentine's too (to keep with the general theme of the week^^).
