Grant | 25 comments I wonder sometimes if anyone has this happen to them. I love to read and I love to be hanging out here Goodreads looking at all the discussions. Sometimes it's a real hard decision, cuz doing either one is like my favorite.....TOO FUNNY.....

Kristie | 5929 comments I have the same issue. I've had nights that I've spent hours on Goodreads and then not had any time to actually read! My fiance calls it my addiction. :) Funny how a site for readers distracts you from reading!

message 3: by Elena (new)

Elena (elenkam) ...and that's when I agree with using an ereader rather than a tablet for reading. The temptation is just too tempting. I find myself doing much more actual reading when I'm out of range.

Jenny*=^.^=CrazyKatLady=^.^=*InMO (jennycrazykatladyinmo) I agree, some days it seems I spend more free time here then I do actually reading!

message 5: by Yassemin (last edited Feb 22, 2013 02:17PM) (new)

Yassemin (yas666) | 56 comments I was just thinking this. Thinking I should be reading rather than browse all the threads but damn it, too hooked on GR!

message 6: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccalynn45) haha same here i'm always on here then I think to myself..I'm never gonna have time actually read all these books!!!

message 7: by Christy (new)

Christy (cmblaker) Love that analogy too!! It's perfect!

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura I have actually started reading more since joining GoodReads, as have been inspired to pick up new books after having a good "rummage" in various different groups. Although I have to admit I do "rummage" a couple of times a day. ;)

me too Laura, I like having the opportunity to whittle down my TBR list. The different challenges in various groups kind of organizes my reading list for me. And the monthly group reads expand my interests by allowing the sharing of views as I get to know other people. I'm finding myself here more than facebook! lol

message 10: by Santino (new)

Santino (tinoprinzi) If I have done any reading I have to update my progress on GR before I do anything else.

message 11: by Amirah I. (new)

Amirah I. (amrhidr) Lol I thought I was the only one with this problem hahaha

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVE BOTH LOL

message 13: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) I tend to spend more time on GR than reading since discovering GR. My book is in arms reach I could pick it up and start reading but I'm browsing around here first. It's a love-hate relationship with Goodreads.

message 14: by Grant (new)

Grant | 25 comments Let's see now, if I read 45 discussions here, than that's like like reading a few pages in my book...... that's cheating huh....... this is all so fun, hey and legal too...

message 15: by Juliet (new)

Juliet Kopo | 2 comments That's a though one~
I'll go with READING, mainly because as I finish a book I'll immediately come to goodreads for an update and/or to find a new book to read, many times based on reviews from groups such as this :)

message 16: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) | 56 comments Yep..also guilty. It's like updating my progress becomes the most important thing to do and I do it anywhere/everywhere.

message 17: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 32 comments Yeah, I have the same problem :)

message 18: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) Goodreads is way too distracting. Especially when a good topic is on fire. I sit here lookin stupid with a book in my hand and browsing and laughing with the other.

message 19: by Meagan (new)

Meagan | 65 comments I feel the exact same way Grant. So hard to choose!

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Ok, I have a good one for you - I am sitting on the bus right now with my book open on my lap, but actually reading Goodreads comments on my phone! I have an excuse though, it's dark and the reading lights are not working on my side of the bus.

message 21: by Grant (new)

Grant | 25 comments Excuses excuses.... ok....... I will use that one.....
I need every one I can get...

message 22: by Dustin (new)

Dustin (dalittlestelf) I get encouraged to read more between knocking out books on my to-read list and getting through the group book(s) of the month. Even now I can barely stand waiting for the new ones for march to be added!!!

message 23: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 82 comments Goodreads can be used as a treat to give you more incentive. For example, for every 10 pages you read, you can treat yourself to GR for a whole 5 minutes. Once the 5 minutes are up you must return to reading to accumulate more GR Minutes (henceforth, GRM).

Example usage:
Mom: Bobby, why are you on the computer?!
Bobby: I read 30 pages, that's 15 GRM, duh!
Mom: it's 3 in the morning.

message 24: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5929 comments Jon- Great idea! Don't think it would work on me though. Lol

Amee | 99 comments I'm here at work but i always check my GR lol

message 30: by Dean (new)

Dean MacAllister (deanmacallister) I have a fear that my next book will not get written if I keep checking these forums...

message 31: by Reaghan (new)

Reaghan | 52 comments Ha ha! All so true!

message 32: by Meagan (new)

Meagan | 65 comments Lol

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I've had that experience, but not with goodreads. My issue was with Facebook and Twitter (Facebook has been completely deleted, and Twitter is deactivated now temporarily). Also shopping online distracts me from reading sometimes. Good thing I don't have much money to do that with very often. LOL! But I do understand the premise; I think this site is great, and it is tempting to spend more time on here than actually reading.

Maybe goodreads should have an e-reader section so we can be on the site and read at the same time. Do you think authors will allow for use of their books on this site? ;0)

message 34: by Dean (new)

Dean MacAllister (deanmacallister) I don't see why not....but you might not be giving a book the attention it needs...

message 35: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 82 comments Emily wrote: "Maybe goodreads should have an e-reader section so we can be on the site and read at the same time. Do you think authors will allow for use of their books on this site? ;0) "

Some books are available on Goodreads. The selection is pretty small though.
Or do you mean that there should be an option to purchase ebooks? If that's the case then it would completely change the nature of the site...

message 36: by Ashima (new)

Ashima (ashimachoudhary1) | 20 comments i access my goodreads everyday but this doesn't distract me from reading

message 37: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (emtmelissa) | 16 comments Somedays I'm more into reading and I'll pick up a book several times in a day & access Goodreads maybe once, others its the opposite and I'll get on Goodreads multiple times in a day to catch up on everything going on.

message 38: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (chaoslovesorder) I like looking on Goodreads- kind of like how people check facebook but I'm not obsessed. I read a whole lot more than I'm on here.

message 39: by Yassemin (new)

LOL!

message 40: by Steph (new)

Steph Patt (steph_patt) | 12 comments I do the same thing! I like to see what other people are reading too, and most of the time if it catches my interest I will add it to my re-read list. It has been hard balancing the two.

message 41: by Angel (new)

Angel (angel4sue) | 48 comments funny this should come up. i was complaining to a friend about this yesterday!!! oh well i am going back to my book for now! peace

message 42: by Lori (new)

Lori Lyn (lori_lyn) | 5 comments For me, reading is the best treat! But yes, hanging out here is lots of fun and I get great future reading suggestions, so that's a real plus.

message 43: by Abby (new)

Abby | 10 comments I still read my finish book in a day or two, so I would say I still read ALOT, but goodreads is fantastic I love it... Goodreads is a booknerds paradise:)

message 44: by Robin (last edited Apr 06, 2013 03:45PM) (new)

Robin Sampson (heartofwisdom) Those of us with ADD switch back and forth every few minitues.

True! I have to check email, read my novel, look for a recipe, back to novel, look at Facebook and goodreads, back to novel, stop and write a blog post, fill orders, check and answer email, surf the web, see a pretty color combo so I create a scrapbook kit, back to novel, get an idea for the novel I'm plotting so add to my mindmap, back to the novel, rinse, repeat.

I don't think ADD is a disorder. I see it as a blessing-- capable of being several things at once.

message 45: by Dean (new)

Dean MacAllister (deanmacallister) I have got 6 books to read and 1 to write. I spend waaayy to much time here. Curse you GR!!

Wow! you must get so much done that way. I don't often read unless I have some time to devote to it.

message 47: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 10 comments Goodreads is fantasic. I'am addicted as my children say. I read more books now then I ever have. I love looking at all the books that are available and all the different Genre's. Sometimes I have to tear myself away from Goodreads to go back to my reading.
