Haha...That's what I thought, ally! I would have to start again and again. I couldn't believe she basically criticized my discipline! lol At least I know myself well enough to know my strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I think discipline is healthy to a certain point, but, just like anything else, it can be overdone.

All I have is problems with the GR App... When I go to type something in this box, it covers post, so I can't post anything...
Its a total piece of garbage. I wait til I get home on my computer to use GR's.

This is BRILLIANT!!!!! I'm stealing this idea! My husband (lol ex-husband) and I were separated for 2 years and then divorced this past September. The 27th to be exact. BUT, we have never in all that time stopped seeing each other. Long story ( and it is sooooooo long) short, things have been moving along, and we have been spending time together almost every day for the past month. My family and therapists (haha I do have more than one to get me through this shit) all think a reconciliation is on the way. His family also ( except his mom, who is in denial). He SAYS its not going to happen, but I tend to disagree. If it does, its going to be a lot of hard work. A LOT. But, I'm rambling. The point is, his birthday comes up in a few weeks and I've been trying to figure out the perfect gift to get him. He is Harry Potter obsessed, and I think this is a great way to get him remembering the good times we've had, because there are so many. This post is GOLD!!!!

Wow, Kristie, I thought your review was fair and honest. Whole 30 is a diet that is ultimately for people who have systemic health problems. For example, I have an autoimmune disease that I can't get under control, even being on some really toxic meds to try and shut down my immune system. I know from my own experience that diet absolutely helps with controlling the issue, and I had my hands on a copy of this book just last week, since I know that I need to suck it up and try an autoimmune protocol diet AGAIN

I left it at the bookstore though in favor of a new copy of The Bear and the Nightingale, lol.

My point?? It's completely understandable that someone who doesn't absolutely have to torture themselves with this kind of food elimination would say its not the right diet for her.

I also think it was pretty admirable that even though you recognized that this wasn't for you, you're willing to try some of the recipes and open to maybe making some healthy changes. Isn't that what these kind of books are about? No one is holding a gun to your head. Its not the law!!!

If I had a choice ( well I do, and so far I'm choosing not to limit myself because, well, like you said, its pretty impossible for me to do) I would keep doing what Im doing and eat what I want.

NetGalley would be great for you. Free Kindle books of all genres and you're such a speedy reader! But, if you don't like writing reviews...hmm. They can be short reviews.

Thanks, Tracy! Sorry that you have health issues, but glad it works for you. I have plenty of friends and family members that would probably benefit from this book. But, like you said it's hard! No reason to follow the diet without...well, a reason. lol Good luck if you try it again!

Someone didn't pick up their hold of Strange the Dreamer from the library, so it became available to me much earlier than expected. I had expected to have it available to read in May. It's a bit chunky (533 pages) to squeeze in unexpectedly. Hope it's worth it!

I use them to get caught up on the fun reads at the library to keep up with what is current because of all the movies coming out!! Plus its fun - who says reading is a has to do thing-- hate that with book groups!!

I haven't read any of them, Vicki, but people really do seem to love them. I don't think I could read 45 of any series without getting a bit tired of it. I can't imagine how he keeps it fresh and still believable.

I'd be surprised if it had any chance in winning this year as there are quite a few others 4-5 star-average books with much higher number of ratings.
With lots of crime series, there is only a marginal amount of detective centered backstory and the plot is usually self-contained, so I wouldn't bother reading an entire crime series in most cases anyways.

I'm a bit annoyed with yet another HP screenplay in the Fantasy category. I love HP very very very much and I even liked the 8th book, but a screenplay is not my idea of an award-worthy fantasy novel (even if JKR was part of it). And of course, the second best candidate is not a fantasy novel either, but some mythology collection which is a mix of history and religion, but definitely not fantasy. grumble mumble grumble

Though I've fared better this year not reading those books that I knew I would dislike and focusing on alternatives that I was interested in. I'll end up doing the same thing next year (even if it defeats the purpose of this group a bit).

I use the app all the time because it’s convenient, but it is definitely lacking in a lot of areas. Lately, it’s been cutting several words out from posts, so I need to go get my laptop if I want to figure out what someone is trying to say. Very frustrating.
