✿ ♥ Heather ♥ ✿ (frangiegal) | 181 comments Merry Christmas everyone !

Over here in Perth, Australia our Xmas Day is nearly over. We had a nice mild sunny day instead of the usual heat wave that always seems to happen.

I'm definitely going to squeeze in some reading tomorrow

ElvenRaven | 244 comments Merry Christmas from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
Here we do have a heat wave, so I'm getting a little jealous seeing all the places where it's snowing! Christmas in the Southern hemisphere is too hot, lol.

message 1203: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Merry Christmas from Poland. We also celebrate without snow this year, but still the time is wonderful. We have the second day of Christmas ahead, so a little bit more celebrating, but also some more peaceful time, hopefully with reading :)

message 1204: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Just got back online now. Major ice storm up here in Toronto area/Ontario.

We were without power/internet/phone, everything since the 21st...what a birthday celebration, lol.

It also got very cold -20 degrees C the last couple of nights so we were very happy when our hydro came back on...chilled to the bone.

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you get lots of good books, good food (we are now scrambling to see if anything is open today to be able to get something to eat) great Christmas spirit, (this storm has brought friends and neighbours together helping each other out as best as possible :-) and memories that will last a lifetime :-)

Wow, sounds like you've had an experience (good and bad) Cathie!

message 1206: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 116 comments Glad you got your power back. That happened in Seattle years ago and we were without power for several days too. I swear I still have PTSD from the experience :). Makes you appreciate the little things in life like a heater and refrigerated food. Hope the rest of your holidays are stress free.

✿ ♥ Heather ♥ ✿ (frangiegal) | 181 comments Hi Cathie, wow sounds scary also - no Internet ?!?! JOKES. I'm glad you're ok and that everyone bandied together to help.

message 1208: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Cathie, that is the story for a great Christmas book :), glad you are safe and sound, though not glad that you are cold and hungry. Hope the next day will be better. More warm hugs!!!

message 1209: by [deleted user] (new)

Am I the only one or is it hard to continue reading unfinished Christmas stories?

message 1210: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments It was Freeeeezing everyone!! Seriously. And yes, Lynn, I wouldn't want to have to go through that again. At the height of it 1/4 of a million people were without power, for at least 24 hours; we were in an area particularly hard hit, with lots of downed wires and trees and blown transformers so our power was out a long time. And, some people still don't have power yet, and may not until the weekend. So so very hard for them. The city has opened up many warming centres where people can go for a hot meal, shower, sleep there etc, but everything is also covered in ice so the disabled, elderly, etc., can't leave their homes. So many people are excellent in checking in on their neighbors, bringing a hot coffee if they have a car and can drive to an area that has power to get one, etc. My neighbor is a fireman and he came to my door Tuesday morning, took one look at me when I answered it all bundled up in a hoodie, 3 layers of clothes, shivering, and a fleecy huge housecoat and said, "You're body temperature is dangerously low (apparently my lips had started turning purple) and I'm taking you out for a coffee and some hot oatmeal. I hate oatmeal, but it sounded like heaven and helped me to feel human again.

It was really a fantastic Christmas though. My eldest son who we haven't seen in 15 years because he's been travelling around and seemed to drop off the grid, surprised us by showing up on Christmas Eve!! My heart just about jumped out of my body :-). He's still here, and both of my young men are upstairs playing video games, and catching up on each other lives. My youngest, who just adored his big brother when he hiked away from home (the youngest was only 9 at the time) can't believe he is now taller than his big brother. He remembers him as being a giant, lol. :-).

This Christmas has truly be wonder-filled!

Thanks for the warm (big smiles) (love anything warm right now) hugs Anima :-)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Cathie, that is a truly uplifting story. Despite all the hardship, you seemed to have a miraculous Christmas time, I cannot even begin to imagine the joy of seeing your son after such a long time. Thank you for sharing that story!!

Cathie! So sorry for your lack of electricity. That sounds horrible! I'm glad you got your electricity back and what a wonderful surprise to have your son home for Christmas! That will warm you up! :)

I was sick for Christmas, first time I've had the stomach flu in probably 15 years! I had to stay in bed all day - not even in bed and reading, literally in bed & sleeping all day. I had to cancel my dinner and my poor family couldn't come over. I was so disappointed. We've decided to get together for New Year's Day though and start off the new year right!

We just opened family gifts today and apparently my family noticed that I like reading. lol I received:

Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright Sole Survivor by Dean Koontz Nowhere But Home by Liza Palmer Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley Ten Tiny Breaths (Ten Tiny Breaths, #1) by K.A. Tucker Heft by Liz Moore The Gods of Gotham (Timothy Wilde Mysteries #1) by Lyndsay Faye My Name is Rapunzel by K.C. Hilton Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1) by Melina Marchetta The Humans by Matt Haig

Yup, I'm doing my happy dance. :)

Angela M Kirstie,
Sorry to hear you were sick over Christmas and I'm sure the delayed celebration will be fun. I was ( still am) suffering from a miserable head cold , cough etc but was not bed ridden like you . We had the kids and grandkids over for brunch and presents . It was fun but exhausting and nice and quiet after the ten of them left ! Lol. But lots of fun !

Christine - I hope you feel better too.

Angela M Cathie - five are grandchildren and the rest are my step kids and spouses ! If it was ten grandchildren we would have gone broke . I have to be careful so I can buy my books ! Lol

Karen ⊰✿ | 412 comments I finally went and saw Catching Fire today and I really enjoyed it (much more than the book actually which I felt was the weakest of the series).
I also saw Philomena the other day which was great, albeit heartbreaking!

message 1239: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) Catching Fire was great, Karen!

We're snowed in here in my neck of the woods. Hubby can't make it out to go to work since our road has yet to be plowed and we have a good 2 feet of snow. First we had an ice storm that took the power out for a week for most people. Now, we have a blizzard! Winter is definitely here. lol

message 1240: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 151 comments we got 40 degree weather dipping down to freezing through the day.

I can't imagine. It was cold today...and that was 55 F. I live in South Florida- never experienced getting snowed in. Must be a great time to READ
