I have a feeling she may be a bit busy with that new job ! I hope it's all going well Cathie :)

message 1104: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Hey everyone! If our "comparable books" are somewhat the same, feel free to add me as a friend! I find it much easier to chit chat via being friends then on forums....

message 1105: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Sorry; I've been exhausted, but in a good way, learning, reading, and integrating into the new job. It's going great :-). Thank you to everyone for the well wishes and support across the miles :-). I've been travelling around to the different work sites throughout the city (suburbs too) finding out what programs are offered at each location and then trying hard to remember loads of names that match up to the programs they are involved with, lol. I've been coming home each night and sleeping...no kidding, no pleasure reading, just sleeping, lol.

I'm also looking after a friend's dog while they are in Arizona for a couple of weeks, so I've been getting up an hour early to walk him, then coming home for another hour walk and another just before bed, when I've woken up from my early evening nap (Gawd, I sound like an old fart!). It's 3 extra hours of activity I hadn't been doing before so I've just been bagged lately. I'll get back in the swing of things soon :-)

I just watched World War Z. I read the book earlier in the year and wanted to see how the movie was in comparison. I already knew that they were going to be different because of the way the book was set up, but they were completely different. Only a couple parts shadowed the book. I have to say that fast zombies are so much scarier than slow ones!! Those guys were speedy!

message 1112: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Speedy and very scary. I haven't read the book yet but I have seen the movie.

message 1113: by Karen ⊰✿ (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 412 comments I really enjoyed the movie, but it was more "inspired" by the book than based on it. I enjoyed the book, but for totally different reasons

Karen wrote: "I really enjoyed the movie, but it was more "inspired" by the book than based on it. I enjoyed the book, but for totally different reasons"

It definitely was. I was so curious to see how they adapted it. I liked that they threw a couple parts from the book in there, but didn't try to follow it exactly, which I think would have been a disaster.

Vanessa wrote: "Speedy and very scary. I haven't read the book yet but I have seen the movie."

Yes! I actually liked the movie better, which rarely happens. The book was interesting for it's own reasons, but I felt about halfway through it started to drag.

message 1116: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (roaming_librarian) I felt that way about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The short story lacked emotion for me and I didn't feel as drawn to the characters as in the movie. And that is not a reflection on length of the story because there are many snippets that can make people feel in only a few words (poems for example).

message 1117: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Haha, I guess Brad Pitt adds to the stories then ;))

message 1122: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments thanks friends :-). I think I am beginning to adjust, although tonight I feel really bagged again, lol.

Went to 2 different offices today and a courthouse and then walked back between the one office to another because I just really needed some walking fresh air time. Then I came home and felt too tired to walk the dog...doh!!! He didn't get walked as much as he wanted to, but now it's time to take him out again and I'm ready to crash, lol. Poor buddy, lol

I really want to see Gravity 3D! but maybe I need to see Bad Grandpa and laugh and relax :-0

message 1126: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments If he is a member of our group message one of us (the moderators) and we will take care of it.

With your permission Claudia I can post your message on the Goodreads Moderator Support Group and get some direction as to the proper reporting procedure you can take; let me know if you would like me to do this.

It's a shame that there are a few idiots on a family rated reading (not social or dating) site that make it uncomfortable for others.

message 1127: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

Lynn | 4471 comments Mod
Oh sorry you've experienced that Claudia :/

As Cathie said, let us know if we can help but please don't let this put you off Goodreads.

message 1128: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I will ask what any one can do about reporting in the Moderators Support group.

message 1129: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Hi Claudia (and other members). When you get a message that is rude, offensive, etc., you need to "flag" the Message.

Claudia flag the message (if you still have it) that he sent to you and any other offensive comment and once done it will prompt you with the question as to why you flagged it. This is the official way of letting Goodreads know about the message.

"Flag" is right next to "reply"

Kayla, it is in the Buddy Reads discussions, with the read starting Dec 1st. I've already picked up my copy and am quite excited to start. :)

So we don't seem to have caught up with each recently, what have you all been up to?

I went to see War Horse (the play, not the film) last weekend. It was amzing, but I do still prefer the book :)

This week however has been miserable, I've been off work and stuck in bed for past three days with such a horrible cold. I need to shake this off as I have a party to go to this weekend!

So sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well. I had sinus surgery this past Friday (to help with migraines) and have been feeling pretty terrible this past week as well. Fortunately, I'm not back to work until Sunday. I hope you feel better in time for your party!

We had Thanksgiving dinner here today and it was great, probably the best Thanksgiving we've had in years. :) We didn't have that many people, but we had such a good time and laughed so much! After dessert, my grandson really wanted to play with his play dough, so we took it out and gave him part of the table to play on and it slowly spread it's way down the table. So funny!

(I have never seen or read War Horse!)

Oh my word!! It relates so well to the story of "My Sister's Keeper". Thanks for sharing.

message 1142: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Hope you both are feeling better soon Lynn and Kristie :-)

Tomorrow we have a big non-demoninational party at work to kick off the holiday season spirit! (The Executive Director is even buying the first round of drinks...should be interesting to see how people loosen up...duh duh duh duh...the office party, lol)

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends :-)

Heh Cathie, you'll have to keep us posted on any office party shenanigans :)

Kristine - you should read it

message 1144: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Kristie and Lynn, I hope you feel better soon.

Kristie, great that you had wonderful time with your family, my kids also like play doh, I know what you mean when you write it spread down the table LOL.

Cathie, let us know how the party went. This sounds intriguing.

Lynn, I haven't read the War House as well, could you give some details on the book, I would be interested in it.

I have a semi-semester exam from American Society classes, so the weekend with books is ahead, but the topic is interesting and I learn a lot.

I'm really happy that we have a chance to catch up!

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 15 comments Instead of heading "home" to Pittsburgh with its' eight inches of snow to see the daughter and grandkids,I spent the Thanksgiving Day feast with my friend Trish's daughter,Kate. Kate also invited two other non-family members - Bill and Marie - in their 80's and 90's who lived in Europe during World War 2. Wow, interesting insights into history. The Americans were the good guys, which to a 60's flower-child was, if not a new insight of that time, at least a confirmation of that concept by someone who didn't have national/personal pride to defend.
