So- imagine that you're an alien accidentally transported here as an infant & raised by Earthlings. When your people come back to collect you, they inadvertently start a war (you know how Earthlings can be- "there's something weird in the sky, let's shoot it")... Do you fight for or against Earth?

How old am I at the time of the initial attack? Do I know anything about my people? Can I help negotiate peace instead?
Damn. Hmmm. Humanity sucks but it is really all I know. I am intrigued to know that life out there exists and even more so that I am one of them. I am confused and some what angry at my alien race for somehow losing me. But with the fact that humanity just likes to point at shit and say bang...I'm still kind of torn.
I love this conversation. Nurture vs. Nature, sci-fi style!
The problem is so much deeper, though. Why did my people come to collect me? Does Earth know that they came to collect me? Does Earth know what I am? I wouldn't get much say either way, because Earth would probably try to use me as a bargaining chip. Or if I know why they came to collect me than it might become a matter of such great magnitude that I decide to join with my people just to (save the universe, perpetuate an almost extinct species, laugh at the best comedian in the universe).

But earth could also say oh hey here is one we chop up and see their weakness. Spider web of paths and possibilities.
Another one that's tried and overly used: Do I have anything that makes me different from humans? I was raised by them, so I assume I look human, but am I Clark Kent/Number 4/My Favorite Martian? In which scenario, I have abilities that make me more than human and possibly able to defend myself. I think that would make a big statement too. If I'm Superman, for example, I could look at humanity and offer to defend them in exchange for not treating me like a bartering chip/lab rat. Or I could decide that my people are probably all super strong too and that Earth has no flipping chance. Then I'd jump ship. Find a nice tropical planet where the coconuts are all fermented.
If you just found out you're an alien- you probably don't have any super powers (otherwise you probably could have at least guessed a while ago), but they do have advanced technology (space travel and teleportation and all that).I'd go with them, just kuz it'd be cool. Then I'd hope that once they got what they came for, they'd just go back where they came from and not destroy Earth.
But- I'd ask them to take you guys along- kuz what good is an intergalactic adventure without your mates to share in the fun?! ... And I'd bring my machete- you know, just in case they decided to experiment on you =)
