Here's your chance to vent about how much you hate Twilight...

I agree Cat. I find the adult insanity even more disturbing than the fact that a bunch of tweens and teenagers are agog over these awful books. I can, in some respects, understand the teen fascination. The books are "safe" and, let's face it, as formulaic as any bad teenage romance ever was. However, when middle-aged soccer moms are getting full back tattoos of their favorite Twilight characters...I find that beyond disturbing.

RB (rblindberg) I admit to having both read the books and watched the movies - the things you do for your friends, right?

There's just something wrong about it. It's creepy. And if you think about it: why do the sparkly vampires look so constipated??

LOL...I love that video, Rita.

Yes, I have read the first book too. Just the first one though...after that I was like no...no more for me! And...GOD...the movies!UGH!!!!

Thanks again for the video :)

Richard | 6 comments I haven't read or seen Twilight. But why bother when there are reviews like this?

Very funny, Richard. It's kind of ironic that that first one is so similar to what I told you about in my Dracula review.

Yes, that's true! And it's got 1500+ likes. I really enjoyed brian's--in fact we are now friends because of it.

message 9: by Rick (new)

Rick (rook916) I do find it disturbing when grown women and men find it appropriate to slobber over pre/post pubescent characters of books or movies. I remember when the potter series (which I find to be as annoying and trivial as twilight) came about and grown women where wearing the scarves and weasly shirts.

I'm not here to convert anyone to liking the Potter series, however, I must say that at least Rowling is skilled writer. And she had strong female characters. One of the more annoying things about Twilight, in my opinion anyway, is the fact that her female lead is every whining, insipid, weak, stereotype of a female that ever existed. I mean, seriously, is this what passes for women in Meyer-world?? A teenage girl who falls to pieces and ceases to exist as an autonomous being unless she has her stalker boyfriend around to hold her hand?? Ugh!

message 11: by RB (new)

RB (rblindberg) Well said Lucy.
I personally enjoyed the Harry Potter books, though they do rip of LOTR a bit.

message 12: by Rick (new)

Rick (rook916) Unlike lotr I actually made it through one potter book with out falling asleep

message 13: by RB (new)

RB (rblindberg) Same here LOL - but I was thinking more of the visual aspects of the movies ;)

One of the many reasons to hate Twilight, Lucy. Bella is a bad role model for young girls.

Rick (rook916) Buwahaha I was gonna post a comment in regards to 50 shades of Gray lol, hopefully the "Pot" heads have moved on to things more fitting

I really don't understand the comparison between Twilight and Harry Potter. But I think my favorite author said it best when he said...

"Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend." --- Stephen King

I agree Dan. I happen to like the Harry Potter books (although I may be in the minority here). And, even if I didn't like them, I could appreciate them as literature and think of Rowling as an actual author. Twilight is dreck...tripe...an awful, awful book that spawned an even more awful phenomena. I have to confess that I didn't complete the first book...I tried, but just couldn't. I swear that while I was reading it I heard the sounds of pigs screaming and thought I saw the four horsemen of the apocalypse. I was convinced that the fact that something this trite and ridiculous was published was a sign of the end times.

Wait, I'm sorry, you never finished the first Twilight book?

message 19: by Lucy, Give me FANGS not SPARKLES (new)

Nope...couldn't bear it. I did my best, but I just couldn't stand it!

message 20: by Dan, destroyer of vegan vampire sissies (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 881 comments Mod
I can understand that. Atleast you tried. I read the first book and wanted to slice my eyes out with razor blades. I wanted to throw the damned book across the room. I mean, really....WHY THE HELL IS STEPHENIE MEYER SO SUCCESSFUL, SHE CAN'T WRITE FOR SHIT!

message 21: by RB (new)

RB (rblindberg) Lol enough with the bashing already: there are actually far worse authors out there, IMHO. Let me mention two women who think they can write: Mary Janice Davidson & Charlaine Harris. Now THEY want me claw my eyes out!

This is an anti-twilight group, Rita. Therefore we will bash on it as much as we want. Thank you!

message 23: by RB (last edited Feb 18, 2013 10:42PM) (new)

RB (rblindberg) Bashing the book is one thing, heck, I dislike it too, but personal attacks on the author is something else entirely and I find it both immature and disgusting, to be honest. How about moving in and start focusing on better literature instead?
Perhaps I'm in the wrong group.

message 27: by Lucy, Give me FANGS not SPARKLES (last edited Feb 19, 2013 07:03AM) (new)

Lucy | 61 comments Mod
Excuse me if I'm mistaken...but isn't one of the reasons for hating the Twilight books Meyer's AWFUL attempt at writing?? Rita, I didn't notice any attacks on Meyer as a person, just as an author. The book didn't appear out of thin air...it was written...by a woman who, from what I've seen, would have trouble writing a grocery list, much less a novel. The fact that this pathetic excuse for writing has become so popular is both puzzling and repulsive to me. I am a book lover, I love good literature and, as such, I will continue to attack the ability of this sub-par hack.

message 28: by Rick (new)

Rick (rook916) I wonder if there is a group "Witches and Wizards (shudder) don't go to college to escape their crappy life group?"

Anyway we can bash the horrid writings of said Stephanie Meyers all day OR we can get back to how awesome other Vampire literary works are!

Dan (dan2345) | 881 comments Mod
LMAO...thanks, guys for having my back on that one. Especially you, Lucy. The whole "She can't even write a grocery list" thing and everything else you said had me rolling. Rita was probably a Twilight fan that came in here to start trouble. Yeah we will get those from time to time. It happened in my old Twilight haters group. I do allow Twilight fans in here as long as they don't do stupid things like insult me or anyone else. Well, I think calling someone "immature and disgutsting" over a damned writer is worse then bashing on that writer. Well, even though I she said some harsh things, looks like we lost one.

message 33: by Char (new)

Char I did try the first Twilight book, since an English teacher recommended them to me.
After a few pages, I couldn't figure out why she would do that! It seemed to me that no teacher ever would recommend such a badly written POS.

message 34: by Dan, destroyer of vegan vampire sissies (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 881 comments Mod
Right on Kyle. I have read all 498 pages of the first book. Somebody in another group criticised me, saying that I hadn't given Twilight it's chance because I had to read all the books. UM....NO THANK YOU..THE FIRST ONE WAS ENOUGH!

Hey, I was looking around on youtube and I found these things called "Twilight Burnings". I would never do it to my copy of Twilight, but they are hilarious. Check it out, there are hundreds of these things...

You are a better person than me Dan! I couldn't even get through the first book. I think the fact that you were able to wade through all 498 pages of that tripe qualifies you for a commendation of bravery!

LMAO...that's funny, Lucy. I went into it knowing it was going to be bad, I just wanted to see how much. My God...there were times when I wanted to throw the damned thing across the room. But, yeah, I can't take anymore after that. Atleast I can say I read the first book when the Twi-Tards (not "Twi-Hards") come in here and attack us.

I have to admit that I read the first book purely to see if I'd hate it as much as I expected to... Sigh--it was worse than even my preconceived notions. I did "skim"/"speed-read" through quite a few spots, but that didn't help it any. (Except in that it shortened my agony to some extent!)

So, I was working on that list of problems I have with Twilight and was going to post it on here. I worked on it for hours. However, GR wouldn't let me post it because it was too long!!!

message 49: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller I hate twilight and many of the notions that vampires are romantic, leading men kind of 'beings.' I mean, they are dead right?? Even Anne Rice's vamps were cruel and blood thirsty. They were able to be intimate, but not sexual because they were DEAD! Lestat said this in Interview ...

next point, how can you emote feelings if you are DEAD? How can you sparkle? How can you drink blood with no fangs? How can you create life? You ARE DEAD!!

I admit to reading the first book, I forced myself to finish the second and book 3 I threw against the wall and asked my daughter what happened. I could not take the whining anymore.

Now, I am reading the Pine Deep series by Jonathan Maberry, and those creatures are AWESOME!! Talk about 'blood-thirsty'?? These guys would give the vamps from 30 days a run for their money.

message 50: by Dan, destroyer of vegan vampire sissies (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 881 comments Mod
It's really irritating, Alondra. Stephenie Meyer's vampires I mean. I'll answer your questions but keep in mind I am definatley not defending it. LOL.

They sparkle because thier skin is diamond hard.
They don't have fangs because the very tiny edges of thier teeth are razor sharp (annoying I know)
As for creating life when you are dead I don't have an answer for that one.

I'd like to check out Jonathan Maberry's Pine Deep series, it sounds pretty good.
