Hello again George,

Certainly, Shy is a good deal more photogenic than I. Thank you, Lucas, for sharing this. I didn't expect to be exposed herein, albeit via an image I cherish. And the link to my little "problem horse" vid is appreciated. I hadn't watched it in a while, and it did bring back some wonderful memories. Let me try to insert a pic of Sarah Mae Seaton.

It's not that you did something terrible and they're making you read O&W again for punishment, I hope. I..."
No it's not yours, that doesn't even describe Oil & Water. I'm putting it aside, for a bit. Sometimes they just strike me wrong; sometimes, they are.

Hello again George,

Oh George she is gorgeous and I'm grumpy because I want one exactly like her! I know you won't be giving her up! Shy is awesome as well . Lucky you. :)
She is beautiful and gorgeous George :-)

One thing that's a little frightening here is how many parents object to the 'godless' curriculum and pull their children out of public school to homeschool. They don't have to use an approved curriculum--they can use curriculums designed entirely by christian publishing companies that fit their beliefs, so the children never learn another point of view. And it's all completely legal, as long as the children are being home schooled and are registered with their districts.

Popcorn is used as home insulation. Terry Pratchett has an apt way of retelling the invention thereof, which I am too lazy to cite.

See? The new members still talk about literature. I had a long discussion with some editors about commas v periods recently. I share Damsel's pain.

Hello again George,

Beautiful!

My community college's library was a joint venture with the county library, a surprisingly sensible idea. But every time I'd see (almost always mothers) 'homeschooling' their kids I'd think, yeah, this way they don't learn how to work with others, respect other people's ideas, value that other people have values.
And then there is the massive Bush-era taxpayer ripoff that are charter schools. Publicly-paid for, underperforming, private enclaves so some people's kids don't attend school with the 'wrong' sorts.

It Oil & Water looks much better, now, visually speaking.

My question is, will it be on the test? Everything is driven by teaching to the test anymore. I was a 1:1 with a fourth grade girl once, in a regular ed class. They got to math, and had just had a test, which almost the whole class had failed. The teacher decided to take an extra day, a precious commodity these days, and have everyone redo the test together in the classroom. They did, and at the end, she asked how many students understood it better now. About four children raised their hands. She had a look of utter defeat in her eyes, but said they had to move on to keep on with the schedule or they wouldn't cover enough for the test.
By trying to make children reach a certain level at the end of each grade, more and more of them are being left behind, and parents already expect teachers to teach their children to behave, because apparently some parents aren't doing that anymore at home, or teaching values. Some parents seem to think it's the teacher's responsibility, in six or seven hours, to teach their children everything.
I wouldn't comment on this, except I've worked in public schools, and this is truly the conversations that go on in the staff lounge. Working in life skills, we got other equally impossible tasks. Teaching a child who wouldn't sit for longer than 3 seconds to read, for example. We'd spend the whole year trying to teach the child to sit still, and if we got up to six seconds by the end of the year, it was an accomplishment. Usually we could manage at least 30 seconds, more if distracted by something they were interested in.
Education is so impossibly messed up right now. I want to know how China, with its Tiger moms and absolute strictness, and Finland, with the completely opposite approach, have the two most successful groups of students and educational systems. Because we're doing something wrong here. And it's frustrating for people like Danni and, well, I used to, who work with these kiddos and they come to school hungry, tired, not at all prepared to learn and teachers are expected to work miracles. Then we see bumperstickers that say, "Those who can't teach," or articles in the editorial section complaining about how much teachers get paid. Yep, that's the reason people go into teaching, for the fame and glory. Ugh.
I have to ask, though, Danni, are they using the big primary pencils or the regularly sized pencils?

I mustheartily irritatingly thank you my friend and highly acclaimed writer George Seaton author of the greatly admired and popular Big Diehl: The Road Home for posting a photo of the alluring eyed Sweet Sarah Seaton.
I'm so taken by Sarah Mae that I now long for stories and more photo's of the entrancing canine member of your family. She's a swell looking gal and I'm sure a great pal too.
Having been so entertained by your reading of the Short Story Audiobook of your horse Shy (see: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WunGhT...) I now long for lots of pics of the canine member of the family with some commentary by you. However just seeing the one photo of Sarah was a wondrous treat and I very much appreciate your generosity in sharing her with us here in the Complaint Department where hugs and kisses are mandatory and quite proper as well as sometimes sincere. —xxx ooo Lucas

Goesta baby!
And well you should bediscombobbled at dawn by the lord high executioner for posting the pimply faced kid photo of Steve Guttenberg when he looks so much morecuteum, er…distinguished today.

Crickets are good luck. You shouldn't step on them.

She is beautiful. I have to complain about the fact that animals are so photogenic.

Oh, you all should go 'round the bend... Great Sand Dunes, Carlsbad, Royal Gorge, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and on and on because there is a lot to go 'round the bend for, here upon and about this wonderful country bordered by the Rockies on one side and the Great Plains on the other...

Well, it's only two more hours east coast time. But I am shocked and horrified to find you distracted by fleshly delights when you are always such a paragon of philosophical insight! :-) Actually, this is the first time I think I've dared write anything to you because it is something I can participate in. I agree with you on the somewhat hairy, perfectly sculpted man. Do you think we can work the golden ratio into this somehow? Nah. Why bother.
I have to admit that don't have experience with chests like that in real life, but it seems like they would feel odd. Sort of...bumpy. I mean, definition is one thing. Okay, I take that back. After another look he isn't so bumpy after all. LOL.
I have to confess that I overuse commas and regularly abuse em-dashes.
In answer to Ebullient Damsel's post, I would have to agree, and wonder why it's a period, which goes at the end, when it's a period the whole way through. Unless you really are talking about periods, not periods, in which case once again I have filled my quota for the day of saying ridiculous things. If defined grammatically, it seems it would start with a quotation mark, an ellipses, some exclamation points, Advil, please, eventually more ellipses, then the period and another quotation mark just to tie things up. Okay. I like that even if it had nothing to do with your statement, E.D. And I have to add that I

Looked at the group bookshelf for the first time, has anyone else? I have two successful complaints to report: I bought some Santitas Salzonadas, they were horrible, tasted like onion salt and nothing else and onion salt wasn't even listed as an ingredient. I called in a complaint to Frito-Lay and in less than a week, received a coupon for a free bag and another for $1 off.
The second one took much longer, indeed I fear typing it out as this might jinx my resolution. On May 16, DH deposited two checks from his previous employer, one for payroll, the other unused vacation. The bank, who shall remain nameless in Manhattan, reversed one of these deposits. We asked why (this took several phone calls, with varying unsatisfactory answers). The bank said they sent the check back. Well not the check but a legal copy. Last week, I was told they sent it to Texas. This week I was told it was sent to California. I said that I've got a current forwarding order that doesn't expire until Sept. Where is it? The girl told me she'd call back. Two days later, no call. Yesterday, I went through it all over again. This time, I was put through to someone who promised me a temporary credit within twelve hours. The deposit went through in three.
Persistence has its rewards.

I just looked and LOL (the last time I looked, there wasn't anything there).

Grudgingly and grumpily I opine I'm pretty sure you are the only person to look at the Complaint Department bookshelves or at least the only one to take them seriously.

I need to complain that I love Neil Plakcy's Mahu books and his first person POV character Kimo so much I am now reading number 5 this week and have busted the book budget. My eyes are weak and blurred, but happy.
Also, I love butter beans. If you cook them (or anything) with salt pork and onions they are delicious.

I am angry and annoyed that the last pain pill will be taken at 4 o'clock at night if I want to avoid the unbearable pain and now the clock is set to wake me at this miserable time.
I really will be happy to begin biological medicin and take the needle with the painfree miracle, then I can sleep good again and get sleep without being awakened in the middle of the night *grumble*
I really wish to be painfree and have more energy the whole day.

Dear Helle, I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed it happens real soon. I recently seem to have a sleepless hole between 3-4am, but of course nothing to do with pain & medication schedule, just wonky biorhythm. I can relate to how that screws up your day, though.

The Arizona Diamondbacks [baseball team] drafted Arizona State outfielder Cory Hahn in the 34th round, a classy move by the organization to honor the paralyzed former Sun Devils and Mater Dei High player who when still playing professionally wore the number 34 on his uniform.
Hahn, a member of USA Baseball’s 18U national team, is a C5 quadriplegic, becoming paralyzed from the chest down being injured in a slide at second base in a February 2011 game against New Mexico. He was just a week into his freshman season for the Sun Devils when he was injured.
Choosing Hahn as a Diamondback player makes him officially a professional baseball player again despite his paralysis. This was a very classy and touching move for the team and for Cory Hahn.

Very cool.

Oh yeah, that's really going to make the neighbourhood safe. Brilliant. But brings home why there are so many fundamentalist religious nuts in America. If they took a more enlightened view to textual interpretation, they might have to reflect on the original purpose and context of the 2nd Amendment and re-amend it.
