Macky (mactut) I'm happy irked that I managed to go to Kendras links and sign both petitions. I hope that they get all the signatures they need and more and I hope in both cases that the church takes responsibility for its actions and shows that it does have compassion. If you preach love, tolerance and acceptance then please practice it.

@ Jerry... Death in Venice is one of my most favourite films ever! Watching poor Dirk Bogarde obsess over the beautiful teasing Tadzio is heartbreaking and after watching it the very first time, Mahlers "Adagietto" 4th movement from the Symphony No. 5 became my all time favourite piece of classical music. The first time I heard it I cried buckets because it suited the film perfectly. The scene where he's sweating and the hair dye is running down his face stays in my mind. Fabulous film.

Congratulations to Complaint Department Members Oliver Frey, reigning living legend of gay art, and writer Roger Kean for winning the Gaybie for Best Romance/Erotic Romance Book "Boys of Two Cities" by Zack Zack .

I am deruggered that our muscle Goesta (The Enforcer) Struve-Dencher has not stopped by the Bruno Gmünder offices in Berlin and "made them an offer they couldn't refuse" Godfather style in order to get them to fork over royalty payments owed Oliver & Roger. Of course the fact that they are owed these payments is a shock to me because I didn't even know Roger and Oli were royalty.

I'm appalled to learn that our dear Dumb Jock führer didn't know he wasn't dealing with lower orders of British aristocracy (except Oli, cos he's actually Swiss, so one of the Habsburg dynasty, really). It sounds as though th odd bottle of Riesling has been popped in Berlin:

Hi Oliver and Roger,

Thanks! Congratulations! I informed our marketing department about it. Let's hope it helps boost the sales ...

It really peeves me off when I hear that a publisher isn't paying the authors as they should. Especially with Roger being one of the "lower orders of British aristocracy." :-) hahah. Why do so many Americans have such a large obsession with royalty?

Anil (loykalina) | 303 comments I am enraged with a member in another group for completely ignoring simple facts and asking the same questions over and over. If someone who is a celebrity or has a good job comes out and it is celebrated, if it makes news, you can't say it is the norm of 2012-2013. If you want reality in the books you want to read, then you can't expect realistic books full of gay CEOS, managers or athletes, because it is not the reality of 2013. Argh!

message 2364: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I MUST complain about how ineffectual the administration of the university I attend is.

The Offices of Student Financial Aid & Bursars are at it again. If this whole process wasn't so frighteningly Kafkaesque it would be funny. In fact it probably is, unless it's happening to you.

I'm enrolled for two summer 2013 classes and four fall 2013 classes. In filling out my financial aid forms, that is what I listed as what I would sign up for. Now I have two holds on my account. One from the Bursar saying that my bill for summer semester is past due and, as they always threaten, if the balance is not paid in full before the start of summer semester, May 20th, they will cancel my classes. Great. So, off to the Financial Aid office to see what is happening with my loans and such. They have a hold on my account because they claim I am not enrolled for the same number of classes that I had said I would enroll for. Now when I first filled out the forms, I was not enrolled for four classes IN THE FALL, only three, but I am enrolled for four classes in the fall now. But that isn't their problem. The hold is there because they claim I am not enrolled in six credit hours (two classes) for the first six week SUMMER session. But I AM enrolled for six credit hours (two classes) for the first six seek SUMMER session and have been for at LEAST a month. Why is there a hold? As usual no one seems to be able to explain, but it might be because I have an outstanding balance for my summer classes - which, of course, I have because the office of Student Financial Aid will not release my funds to the Bursar. So the Bursar won't remove the hold until they get the money and the Financial Aid office won't release the money until the Bursar removes the hold. The worst part is that the office of student financial aid claims that the Pell grant which I have supposedly already been approved for and supposedly received shouldn't be affected by either holds and that the Bursar should recognize that and not have put a hold on my account to begin with - but they just smile and say that they have no record of that.

Everyone says that it will all work out. But I have ZERO confidence in either of these offices to actually do their jobs considering the level of competency that they have illustrated to me from past experiences. Right now, after having been back and forth to both offices this morning when I should have been studying my French homework, all I am left with is - wait and see.

Except for the realization that they are probably doing this to hundreds, if not THOUSANDS, of students and the university is making money on the interest off the money that the office of Student financial aid claims was already submitted to the Bursar, but which the Bursar refuses to acknowledge they have received.

Goesta From academic bureaucracy through financial irresponsibility to fundamentalist idiocy, this appears to be a wretched day for all, and I commiserate withal. Sadly, I have little energy for anything more than that. But am with you in spirit!

Still dithering, sorry LL, Roger & Zack, whether I should rattle sabres at Gmünder, since I have vague plans to try them myself one of these months, once the novel's done. Ah, the evils of self-interest. More realistically, I never win these things; I have at least three fights currently going (losing) with various service companies. I'm just too darn NICE, which apparently they can sniff out even between the lines of my outraged, legal-action-threatening prose. Like people on the street who always zero in on me to ask for money or smokes, rather than anyone I'm with.

@ Roger & Oli

I need to complain that the French President is at it again. His cyber-thugs have come and removed the words "and Oliver" for all the above posts that accord congratulations for the 2013 Gaybie Best Romance/Best Erotic Romance Book award from the public voting tabulated by TLA.

Obviously a Zack book is not a Zack book without Zack Art as drawn by the legendary world-acclaimed master of gay artistry Oliver Frey (see http://www.zack-art.com ) as demonstrated on the cover of Zack the Art.

So all those Congratulations/Congrats Roger and Oli messages are missing the "and Oli" because that Frog King has done it again. He really is devious.

On behalf of all the members of the Complaint Department including those whose messages were messed up by the tyrannical plot against you—

CONGRATS BOTH OLIVER & ROGER ON HAVING A GAYBIE

Rick | 15794 comments I regret that I cannot complain about Death in Vencie since I love that movie. What a beautiful film (I do need to read the book though). In fact, coincidentally, I just re-watched it last week. I love the scene with Tadzio teasing Gustav by weaving back and forth between the polls, making sure that Gustav gets to see every single of his body. And look at Tadzio's eyes, the intensity of ensuring that Gustav is watching him is there in every glance. Just mesmerizing.

I really hate dealing with these offices. They are SO frustratingly dehumanizing. Thank you for the sentiments Anil and Lori (and everyone). It's been a long day and I probably failed a French quiz because I did not study as much as a should have and had poor concentration on what did study. BUT - I did get the Office of Student Financial Aid to lift their hold on my account, so now I only have to get the Bursar's office to acknowledge that they've gotten my funds. Hopefully in a week or two it will get all ironed out and I won't have to resort to daily complaining in their offices.

Something that's often overlooked about Visconti's Death In Venice is the way he created Dirk Bogarde's amazing performance. Although if you're a Bogarde fan, you'll know his "serious" performances in films like Joe Losey's Accident, but to the majority of the cinema-goers, Bogarde was a lightweight matinée actor, so Death In Venice was an eye-opener
