Ok so I wanna complain that my bf's dad was ranting racist stuff on the street the other night while he was taking me home from work and i think he may have been slightly intoxicated, and he got upset that I wasn't ok with his racist comments. i have to see this guy a lot, unfortunately. those of you who have seen my various other rants concerning him already know he's a sexist, homophobic and transphobic too. I just don't understand how people can be like this. it was just disgusting.

*sigh* Today my son and his wife had another baby boy. On the way to see him I opened FB to post the happy news and found out a friend of mine, who was battling cancer, unexpectedly lost her fight last night. I've had up and down feelings all day. It has been so upsetting to learn that this light-up the world, make everyone happy woman is gone when the last time I was able to see her she just glowed with happiness and health :'(
I am literally pulling my hair out right now. I bought a book on Kobo.com a few months ago and i'm now in the mood to read it. I have the kobo app for my iphone but for some reason the book isnt showing up in my library. I've tried all of their "troubleshooting." signing out. re downloading, yada yada. If i log on to kobo.com on my desktop I can clearly see the book in my library. The only way to access that book is by reading it through Adobe Digital Editions. I figured i'd just casually use Calibre to turn it into a mobi so I can read it on my kindle but then... BAM DRM. totally forgot about that crap. I'm sure i can figure out how to remove it and what not but that's not the point. The point is I shouldn't have to. I spent my hard earned $8 on that damn book I should be able to read it how and where I want it. WTF! ugh. but as i was writing this rant i just remembered I can download ADE on my phone so I guess i'll go do that.. but still...
Hope you're able to read your book. It's no fun to know you bought something and not being able to find it!
Hi people :)So, I want to complain that I haven't had time to read since my last visit here.
It's terrible. It's unnatural. And I feel bad with it.
I was swamped with work all this time, but it was seasonal work, so now I'm jobless. Have to look for something fast :/
I think it's enough for now. It's sooo good to be back :))

Glad you're back! No fun not having time to read though.

No fun at all!
Me my in-laws are living with us again while they look for a home in the same state as us :( Yuck! They hate what I read, talk to me me even if I'm involved with something, "torture" my adult daughter that is living with me, talk politics all the time (they are VERY conservative), and basically make my life very...uncomfortable. Top it off with a "flare" (fibromyalgia) and...my stress!
I hate having a sensitivity to smells. When I was an art student, way back in the day, I remember having professors who would advise us not to wear any scented lotions. Apparently, working with art chemicals messed with their bodies, and so scented lotions (as well as perfumes and hair gel) were too much to handle. Back then, I was so annoyed! But now, I've got exactly the same problem as they did.
Whenever someone hasn't bathed, I can smell it a mile away. It's like a palpable odor that trails behind them. I can walk down a sidewalk and smell someone, even if there's nobody there, if there's been a smelly person walking around in the past ten minutes. WTF!
And then, if there's a woman who wears strong perfume, it bugs my nose, to the point where if I'm on public transit I'll sometimes have to switch seats. But then I wear strong perfume too, so I'm well aware I sometimes have the same effect. I just can't stand the thought of smelling like body odor, so I overcompensate. I feel bad about it, but I don't know what else to do. I bathe everyday and wear deodorant, but I don't feel complete without a little something extra like nice perfume or lotion. And yet I hate when other people smell strongly. I guess I'm just a hypocrite.
The worst, though, was the other day when a man I had the misfortune of standing behind smelled like fecal matter. I don't know why. It was so gross, I had to cover up my nose and mouth with a scarf for a moment. Looking around, nobody else seemed to notice. I guess I'm just a bloodhound? Jeez...

Joshua, don't worry. I also have it. It does make ones life a bit uncomfortable at times. Smelly strangers is one thing but some handsome guy whose smell (not wrong one, just strong, different) distracts me to the point I can't focus on what he's talking about because I think of where did I smell it before? That's when I'm mostly frustrated :P And sometimes it's a bit awkward too. Two months ago while shopping I smelled some burnt plastic near A/C and just blurted to some shop assistant that I think it wont work for much longer because it smells of burnt plastic. She looked at me as if she wanted to ask "u high on something or what?", and then couple of days later I went to the shop again and there were two guys repairing the thing. xDD
But there is also a bright sight to it. Apparently when I was little I smelled that there was something wrong with the air at night, woke everyone and it turned out there was some problem with the chimney and there was smoke in the house. I'm also usually first to notice some gas leaks, and when something is burning (eg, in the oven).
Strong perfume IS a nightmare for me too. Even if I generally like the smell, when it's too much then I even may start sneezing, but then people tend to think I'm sick so they move and I can breath :P
I hate when a really terrible book with a terrible message and premise is overwhelmingly popular. I wouldn't even care if it just had bad writing, or the plot was something not of my taste. My issue is when its about something that is morally terrible, and people seem to approve of it/enjoy it. (I am, of course, talking about Captive Prince. As a gay man myself, I have never hated a book more in my life. Can people stop writing racism and r*pe like its an "interesting" topic?)

Yes! I do not get the popularity of that book series, at all. I've looked at, read a few excerpts and gone: blergh.

Seriously, how on EARTH do people find an entire series based on the r*pe and slavery of a poc man enjoyable? Its revolting.

To answer your question - sorry, but they won't stop. I don't know how it is presented in CP but I noticed some time ago that in general, rape is one of more popular themes used to strengthen some points or simply to add spice. It turns out that lots of people like to read about rape, because while most despise the act in real life, they accept it in a controlled way, like in books, and even find it hot. And because the group is rather big you may wait some time before this theme stops appearing.
Will it stop appearing? The whole issue is that it is taboo and that provides titillation for some people. It is like all those 'I fell for my stepbrother/stepdaughter/stepmother' etc etc books that are flooding the market.
You know, Ije, I'm trying here not to totally abandon the idea that it may be possible ;P Themes in books change, and rape theme is still only a theme. It does not define the whole book (or it shouldn't, but books differ). And we, as readers, have this comfort of being able to skip a part in a book that we don't like. When a book has themes we don't like, we may write about it openly. That's also the benefit of sites like GR, where there are readers and writers in one place. Writers can count on feedback almost constantly. They also have a great place to look for fresh themes.
So, I suppose it may happen when there will be more negative than positive response to it, but when will it happen, who knows.
Maybe when I'm too old to read... but hey, it will still count :P
Alas, I recently re-discovered a recipe that my mom did quite well: Chocolate Scotcheroos. Thanks to Kellogg's decision to drop Breitfart, I shall have to make some.

Yes we have Rice Krispies here too :)
Merry Christmas, Monika.Today I realised that my life is so boring that what makes me excited these days is setting up a goodreads reading challenge for 2017! Gah!
It's somewhat mystifying that the person who created one of the most popular Christmas songs of all times passed away during Christmas... Last Christmas won't be the same from now on ;( ;( ;(
This year can go away and never return. However, we're left with dealing with the aftermath of this past year .... I'm tired and I don't want to play anymore.:0\
Yeah, I've read about it too. I feel like every time I visit facebook there is a new info about someone famous passing. It's so sad. I hope 2017 will be better... :S
It was -24C at night.Now it's -19C.
My car wouldn't start so I couldn't go shopping. As I was watching the street, I came to the conclusion that others must have had the same problem. There have been almost no cars on the street since morning... Creepy O.O
And even thou there is finally snow, it isn't wet enough to build a snowman. Damn :/

We got slammed with a snow storm here in NM yesterday, and though the snow is pretty much gone (which is part of the norm), but it is very, very cold this morning. It was down in the teens (Fahrenheit) this morning and is only in the mid 20s now. The snow caused a lot of problems yesterday, closed schools and state offices. Lots of fun.
I just want to complain that I have been chronically tired for years, literally years, and the past 6 months it has gotten worse (partially the reason i haven't been posting in here a lot / keeping up with people, i am very sorry about that) but apparently its just "stress". for years??? its become a big problem.
Sadly, I don't live in Poway (due to economic ineligiblity) but as no CD members seem to live there I shall complaint on residents' behalf. California's drought led to water rationing and the people of Poway [no stupid spell correct, not Powys] complied so well, the town's water department lost money. So now that it's been raining almost continuously for three weeks, the city raised residents' rates by $11.

Averin wrote: "Really!? Without any legal challenge? I don't see why a public utility-- any more than health care -- should be for profit."It's "operating expenses" don't ya know? Not profit!
However, yeah. They push the "reduce your use" thing, people do reduce their use and of course the amount of money pouring into the city's coffers goes down so to compensate they raise the rates .... etc.
As a Hospice member when there is an emergency, I can just go to the Hospice unit to get served for my metastatic bone cancer. It seemed like they gave me the VIP room because it was all mahogany wood paneling and luxury furniture. Good food. Great views./ Sun Room, and other nice spots like a place where you can get everything from soda to snacks, cereal, ice cream and more. That is the good news about being a member of hospice. The bad news is you have to a life expectancy of 6 months to become a member. Well I am back home so I cannot complain I don't get the Royal service Hospice provided. Oh yeah, I was too upset to post this at the time but my dog died. I'm heartbroken because it was just the two of us together all day and all night for 10 years.
I wasnt expecting this Preston. I dont always check here and I didnt realise you are ill. I am sorry to hear this and I am speechless. Just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. xxxxxx
Preston, I'm really sorry to hear about your pup. It's really hard to lose a long term companion like that. :( From the photos you've used on your avatar he looked like a character and a sweetie.I hope you are doing alright for the moment. We've missed you around here lately.
It is good to see you here Preston. So sorry about your dog. I had no idea you were ill. (((hugs))) hope you are having a good day.
Hi Tj,I keep the photo of the generations from the older generations all the way down to your Son's son because I enjoy seeing that many generations in one photo. And I love this photo of those two handsome guys, your son and his son:
