Dyslexia simulation . Direct link. Since brain injury this happens, occasionally. I'd like to find the situational indicators, the pattern recognition to prevent it. I've done well in the past. Re-learned to read and write with graph paper and crossword puzzles. Thanks.

Excellent material Sonja. Thank you for the links. Dyslexia is definitely something to complain about loudly and with care.

Yeah. Thanks. The penultimate complaint could be I've run out of complaints. The last complaint could be we'll run out of Y towns and S towns in New York before we even get to Queens.

I know 3 more Y towns and plenty of S towns. My complaint is I know why you wanted to know if any towns ended in B. You wanted to see someone use a town that ended in B so you could reply with Bronx knowing NYS is not a place where towns start in X. You are evil.

Oh, cake is good! Yes Happy Birthday. I wish it were true the B... and the evil. But no, that's not why. No worries. My parents met in Buffalo is all..... and I really wanted everyone to know there is a Barcelona, NY too. Near where my dad grew up. If someone throws me X's. That's probably a good thing. < wry grin>

Hi Ray, welcome to the Complaint Department!

Hopefully the individual email thing will work. If not, it's an issue you need to take up with Goodreads itself or try the Help button at the bottom of the screen. https://www.goodreads.com/help

In the meantime, I hope you have a good time while here. :D

message 6867: by Wren (new)

Wren (wrenreaders) | 339 comments I want to complain that my bf and I got into a car accident, it wasn't that bad and nobody got hurt but we're super pissed. My bf is the best driver I've ever been with, he was going 20 and braked super early yet the hellish slush-snow concoction that mother nature decided to spit out of the sky today decided to screw us over. we almost missed the corner of the car we hit, and we took the worst damage. now, he's going to have to pay for his own insurance, and this is bad because its gonna be higher now, he has a crappy paying job and has to buy his own gas, not to mention potential repairs. and its not even his fault!!!!!

he's terrified of his parents yelling at him, which is a super unhealthy fear. He is 18, very responsible driver, but he always fears being screamed at when he messes up. one time he got a parking ticket and was super afraid all the way home. they didn't react badly, thankfully, but his fear over such a small thing was palpable in the air. Now this isn't even his fault, but he's super afraid and im incredibly angry that his parents have somehow raised him to be so afraid. he doesn't deserve it

ugh. its not a good day

Oh, that totally sucks. I understand. I'm glad you shared.
It's still snowing on my parade too.
You really think his parents raised him to be fearful?
Sometimes I wonder about environmental factors.
I'm in my early 40s. You and your bf could be my kids.
Weird, huh?
I believe there's a lot of media influence that wants to keep us in a fearful powerless place. The news is somehow ubiquitous and omnipresent. Gosh, the snow brings out the Scadanavian Philosophy in me. Dark. Very Dark.

It's good to get angry. It's good to feel.
Your bf ... I send reassurance. It's really most important that you both are unharmed. I'm glad no one was hurt.

message 6869: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Some times the fear we feel is worse than the actual consequences. I was always scared of what my parents would do when I did stuff I shouldn't, but they were never that harsh really.

Glad you two are all right and the car is drive-able still. Accidents happen no matter how careful you drive on slick roads. :(

I dont think they raised him like that on purpose, like my guardians did. I think its a "side effect" of not fitting like them, i.e straight, perfect fit of gender roles, christian, etc. he stresses over stuff not super often but when he does...he really reallllly does

Oh more evangelicals. I look forward to when you can move to a place where the predominant religion is none.

Factoid in the air today, a little trivia to get your mind on hopeful changes....

More than half the population in Scotland... about 53%
was reported today to be atheist.

(I thought perhaps, druid was not an option.)

my plans to move to scotland have been decided! :P
luckily theyre not outright evangelical but i mean....after a year and a half of knowing me, knowing im pagan and seeing me wear freaking pentacle jewlery all the time his dad asks me "hey are you catholic?" and im like ?????? no?????????? then he said "ohhh oh thats ok" and im thinking wow thanks mr. catholic so glad you have given me the approval i needed thank you so much!!! *sarcasm*

plus they said something about supporting some ultra christian political party which concerned me a bit, i dont judge based on political affiliation but separation of church and state is a thing!

Yeah! I didn't realize you were into magic. I just looked at your blogs.

I have had mystical experiences. Largely from meditation and

There's so much history there! And maybe you are experiencing an awakening of sorts. Who knows. As you know christians and pagans have a history marred with strife.

the majority of the canadian population is christian so i think that has to do with it. as for ending up often with evangelicals or fundamentalists around....well thats just bad luck i guess. I mean nicks parents arent necessarily fundamentalists (thankfully) but there is a good share of them here

yeah i mostly use magic and prayer and stuff to calm myself and reassure myself! my anxiety disorder is rampant and my situation is crappy so whether real or not, it helps me stay calm, you know?

thats what really draws me to magic. calm, calming my anxiety for a little while, even if its just a placebo.

my bf astral projects and lucid dreams, which is cool

yeah i know the history! doesnt help with my feelings towards them haha

It's real. It's real because it works and you can feel it.

I never question it. I use it for much the same reason as you.

Well, I'm so glad I can reveal that at times I follow astrology.
It took some getting used to. However it is psuedoscience... yet it's 3000 year old pseudoscience and makes for a good story.

Mars is going retrograde on April 18.

I will send you a link to a lady in LA who can explain it better than me. It seems you are already experiencing some of the retrograde effects. Hmmm...

I sleep when my cat sleeps pretty much. Non sequitur.

I wrote some stream of consciousness garbage in the write anything. I got a head injury months before FB started so I am about 3 years maybe a little more... behind the learning curve of social media. I used to know computers pretty well. But not anymore. I'm like screw it. That wisdom... the medium is the message from Marshall McCluan is pretty much what I go by.

I have learned to assimilate. I use horrible redundant phrases like, imo and even worse, just saying. I asked one of my friends to please shoot me if I ever used that watered down passive aggressive , don't own it crap. And now I use it. Because it keeps the Christians away. Not so much the Christians but the evangelicals.

Lastly, once I wrote about some thoughts on suicide ... ( don't worry I not in the mood to make a mess.)
I was in a dark place at the time. I called a suicide hotline. As I have promised everyone I know I would do... and I read some of these thoughts about self-euthanasia as a right. I can't get into it right now. I have conflicting thoughts on it and it feeds right into some of my dystopian nightmares... daymares, paranoia ... whatever.

So the dude on the phone , I felt like I had infected him with what I had written. There was a pregnant pause. The suicide counsler referred me to a website called the Hemlock society. And that's it.
That's how screwed up that time was. I don't call suicide lines anymore. Maybe it cured me. Idk. The Hemlock Society is a website for legal euthanasia. And yeah, I felt terrible after that. I felt like a devil's advocate. A spin doctor. A lawyer that can debate anyside.
But that counsler on the hotline didn't do his job. He did the opposite of it. So George Carlin (RIP) can tell you what I think/feel about that. Later, and thanks for reading, S

I'm complaining about the weather...

message 6887: by [deleted user] (new)

I can tell it's going to get cold and damp. Can feel it in my bones.
There is some sailor superstion about cats with multiple toes. In the era of the Tall Ships... even to now Sailor's cats are kept aboard to predict the weather. My cat has been sleeping all day. Fortunately, the weather crap has helped me write on here... yes yes, too much, too dark. But thanks for reading. Sometimes I think introspective, creative sorts have a link to the weather. I'm tired of being cold all day long. Boo hoo.

What is a reading buddy? Do you all want to help me set goal for silent reading? Not so much audio books. I never worked with on line allies before. But I'm in a little funk and thought I'd ask. I have a 700 page book, I want to read. Generally I'm not so ambitious. When dyslexia or whatever it is that my brains don't read so well... I haven't been able to find the pattern that makes it happen. I've gotten out of the funk with short stories in the past or immersion reading. Also I do alot of reading aloud. So what do you all think? How can one be a reading buddy who can go easy on me. Because I'm flakey but I work well under deadlines. Did that make sense? Make sure to tell me when I don't make sense. Thanks.

Wren (wrenreaders) | 339 comments I am so sick of these ridiculous "inspirational" quotes i see all the time. a background of the ocean and a sunset with the words "you make your own life....think positive and positive things will come to you" and stuff like that and I'm here like ha! nice that you're secure enough in your life to buy into these inspirational quotes bs. if my life could be fixed by "positive thinking" you can bet it'd be done by now....

This would be good question to ask in the M/M Romance Group which is a lot more active with reads because they something like 18,000 members though it might be more since I last checked.

Queereaders is another much larger group than this but no where near as big as M/M Romance group which is (just guessing) thre or four times the size.

Good luck!

I agree as well. It's platitudes. I recently read an article that it can be interpreted as a form of gaslighting. Gaslighting is a tactic to make one not trust their own feelings and observations. It's a term from the film "Gaslight" starring Ingrid Bergman. If I find the link. I would share.

There are some great SNL satire on that kind of stuff. Probably on YouTube. Deep Thoughts with Stewart Smalley. Late 80s/90s very funny.

Thanks for the helpful tip, Preston. It's difficult for me to open my interests up to more than one group. Maybe with time. I like your suggestion. I'm hopeful to remain in this group... before taking on much more. Simply because I can't multitask!!!

Everyone works really hard here and the games are great.
I got more into the book reading aloud to my dad and vicey versy. That's worked in the past. So we'll see. I don't expect anyone to read the same book I am. Because it's more like an in person thing. I was hust brainstorming a system of encouragement. Kinda like this one :

A person with TBI, a game designer... you all are my allies in a way. Very welcoming. Thanks.

Will that be 7.5 minutes of reading a great book or 7.5 minutes of cleaning the toilet?
<-just kidding->
******************************************************************
If you don't mind reading a M/M Romance Ethan, Who Loved Carter is a great book about a guy with TBI and a guy with Tourette Syndrome. It's a wonderful way they work together and gain from being partners.

message 6898: by [deleted user] (new)

@Preston thank you. I DL'd the sample pages from Amazon last night. The preface drew me right in as I relate all too well. I had no idea there was a novel with a TBI protagonist. There is an option for immersiion reading too. I'll start with silent reading. Also extra thank you. I relate with the synopsis. It makes me feel good to read about life and love after/with TBI. Excited!
