ALMOST ALL THE YA AND NA CONTEMPORARY ROMANCES I FIND ON HERE.

Yes, there is definitely a similarity of theme that gets old very fast.
I have a similar problem with things like chick lit (single female who isn't happy with her appearance, or what-have-you, and does nothing but whine about not being in a relationship (or, if she's not complaining, others in her life are doing so for her or pestering her to get into one).
My personal complaint about a lot of adult fiction is that it's so dull ... Trying to find something interesting to listen to in the car at the library can be such a downer sometimes.
I recommend Sleepy Hollow: Rise Headless and Ride, SLEEPY HOLLOW: Bridge of Bones, and SLEEPY HOLLOW: General of the Dead by Richard Gleaves which nicely subvert the love triangle and are cracking good reads too.
Hold Me Closer, Necromancer and Necromancing the Stone by Lish McBride, which don't have love triangles at all (it does fade to black m/f though).

And Wren wins the prize for getting why Pieriq doesn't like most YA fiction. Even Intermediate (ages 10-12) has more interesting story ideas and themes. They've also become hopelessly mired in dystopian realities where they've completely lost touch with the point of dystopias. This happened in fantasy fiction in the 80s as well: suddenly everyone was world building but all they really did was turn fantasy into a cliché. Blah. Blah. Blah. Pieriq drones on...

Oooh, they look like fun. Thanks Lori :)
And I hate all those whiny heroines too, where are other strong female characters like Eve from In Death series... :(

Pieriq?

I read Hold Me Closer Necromancer and I thought it was awesome. Thanks for the recommendations!

Yes! And when all the time its always based on the love triangle....I wouldn't mind if it was more a side thing but it can often overshadow the plot

As I'm having to keep my left eye close while using goodreads these days, otherwise I get nauseous and dizzy from eyestrain because of the new font & color scheme, I've adopted the moniker Pieriq, sort of "Pirate Rick" since I'm a one-eyed hacker so to speak. See post #6576 above.
.-)

Ah ok
Yeah I don't like the font.....hurts my eyes too

The ones I have are based on 10 years of abuse, not three months of tumblr blogging. I'm serious about them. But whenever I say "this triggers me" I cringe because I sound so stupid.
Just now I saw a post on fb which had my heart pounding, my stomach hurting and my eyes watering. My hands were literally shaking as I hit the screen to hide the post. This isn't just some dumb pc sjw stuff. This is real, and it affects me, but I feel so ashamed and angry and upset.

PTSD (ask anyone who's experienced it) is nothing to sneeze at and people who say otherwise need a good kick in the knee. From what little I've gathered about Tumblr, it's full of overly sensitive people with just a little too much time on their hands. Ignore them.
I hope you're doing alright now Wren. Remember, you're in a safe place.

Or Mercy Thompson

Eve/In Death and Honor Harrington (the David Weber series of umpteen...though not as many as "JD Robb"...books) are the two strongest women characters I've read in the last 67 years.
Weber's fantasy series "The War God's Own" (first book), features some extremely strong women.
And IMNHO, Miss Marple qualifies as well. Beneath that supposedly dithery exterior was a will of steel.
And I'm not disagreeing at all with Mercy Thompson.
Okay, I have to go back to typing for dollars now. Thanks for the mini-break.

Absolutely right, Lori. Ms. Huff tends to have strong women characters in all her books. And also...
Awwwww. Doggone, y'all. Ya done did it to me. I hereby complain and whine as follows:
I just spent a Christmas bonus on 45(ish) movies from AMZ, from new/recent stuff to ones I only have on VHS and would like to see again. (If anyone knows where to get a DVD of Hepburn/Olivier in "Love Among the Ruins" let me know!!!)
So the talk about Tanya Huff led me to start to mention her Confederation series with Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr (of the female persuasion since you can't tell by the name >s<). And for some odd reason I mentally segued into a sword and sorcery series with a strong woman warrior. I couldn't remember her name but did remember the series was by Jennifer Roberson.
Thanks to Google I found the "Sword-Dancer" series about Del(ilah) and Tiger. It turns out there are now 7 novels in the series that started in 1986, with an 8th upcoming. I have the first 6 in trade paperback, but while I know what the 11,600ish books in my library are, I have no bloody idea where this set is. Thus I'm going to be forced to buy ebook copies so I can reread the series.
And it's all your collective fault!!!!
So there.

Thank you

So there.
Eric-the-ever-ranting"
I've tried to get into Huff's Torin Kerr books for years and still haven't managed it. Maybe I'll try an audiobook at some point.
As for that last bit - glad to be of service!

*hugs* and remember, there are a lot of people here who wish you well :)

The ones I have are ..."
I'm sorry you feel like your triggers are shameful. These things aren't and I so agree with Lori. (((hugs)))

I've tried professional help, none of them really did anything but I think I'll try again if I can find the time and a counsellor.

It is so hard to find one that will be what someone needs. You keep trying. I'm working on my daughter to go to someone but she is being stubborn. (She was raped and has sever anxiety.) I'm glad you aren't.

I'm so sorry. :( I really hope things get better for her

I disagree. A dissimilar version exists:
Just kidding <-Grin-> :)

Why hasn't your doctor prescribed anti-anxiety medication (usually a benzodiazepine like Klonopin) for your generalized anxiety disorder symptoms?

Even though I complained on behalf of the group it is important that they receive a large number of complaints so each of you should complain individually.
Sent to Goodreads:
"I represent Goodreads members in my Group (Complaint Department) . Several members of the Complaint Department have agreed that the new font is not just esthetically a bad choice but it is actual harmful because it hurts people's eyes. As moderator I must be on Goodreads in my group everyday. I just spent 15 minutes in my Complaint Department group and I now have a headache. There were no vision problems with the previous font. This is a case were good intentioned people in Goodreads management think they must do something to help users and end up making things worse. Please restore the previous font."

I used to take them. We tried several different ones, for different periods of time. Nothing works in terms of meds.

DSP advertised a sale of 11 for $1 for 1 day. The titles looked interesting and to a tightwad like me, what's not to like? But when I reached checkout the price was $14.99. After a calm WTF! reaction at my screen I did a little checking, and one book on the list was, after all, shown at it's regular price, without the discount being applied. I figured it was just a typo and if I went ahead, I'd get a refund or store credit for the extra $3.99.
So I paid the full price, and immediately sent them at email explaining their goof, and asking for a refund of the $3.99 or a refund of the full price if they wouldn't honor the sale commitment.
I received, yesterday, a "sorry for the inconvenience of having charged you too much for a book that was on sale, but that sale is now over and we don't do refunds or store credits except for duplicate orders."
So I sent the following, which I call a nastygram (between the asterisks):
******
It's good to know that Dreamspinner doesn't honor its advertisements, sort of a bait-and-switch kind of thing since DSP did offer all of those 11 books at $1.
It's good to know that when DSP makes a mistake, a customer who gambles on DSP rectifying its error will be on the losing end of the bet.
It's good to know that when DSP refuses to correct a mistake it makes, it does so with a feeble "our rules don't permit us to fix what we did wrong in overcharging you for a book we advertised as being on sale," when the reality is that the owners/management can do whatever they choose to do in terms of breaking/bending a policy to fix a company error...and then don't choose to do so.
All of the above is really good to know because I have just under 11,700 books in my personal library, about a third of them now being electronic, I buy hundreds of books a year, and this incident will certainly be a factor in my future book-purchasing decisions. And yes, when I'm purchasing from Amazon, I normally do scroll down the page to see who the publisher is before clicking on the purchase icon.
Apology not accepted.
******
This morning I got an email that provides me with $3.99 in store credit, which is just fine.
So I therefore wish to complain about Dreamspinner being an honorable gay press...so are they all, all honorable gay presses...and cutting off my ability to whinge about it not being so.
>sigh<
And of the 5 books I've read so far, they've all been fun.
Eric-the-ever-buying

I'm really ticked off that Dream Spinner Press did the proper thing in reimbursing you because now we can't complain about anything other that we can't complain about them. They have some great titles too. How said we have to praise them instead of damning them.

and I find I am competing with the eminent RK himself.
Ah, well, quel dommage as they say.
Eric-the-surprised-and-honored

And people wonder why I cut. -_- Idiots..

Congratulations gentlemen :D

Welcome Raven. I'm glad you joined the Complaint Department. Don't worry you won't get any lectures here just empathy from those of us who have also been bullied and called names. As a gay man I have been called all sorts of nasty names so I feel badly you're getting called names.

I feel you. My sister is gay as well (lesbian) and she has been called plenty of mean names. She doesn't deserve it, and nethier do you.

Merry Christmas!
Damn, I want this guy to be my Christmas tree *.*
And instead that's my reality:

Kind of you to say so, Your Eminence! :)

Hi Wren,
I know you don't think much of medication but there are scores of medications for anxiety and depression. If I was in your position I would search for a psychiatrist that I felt comfortable with, tell her or him all my fears and sorrows and work together to test the vast types and range of medications until I found one that worked. That's what I did for depression many years ago and now it's not a problem at all. If you try this I wish you good luck.

The January 8/15, 2016 double issue of Entertainment had the gall to reveal my personal physician, Dr. Strange. At least it didn't reveal what magic he uses to keep me from wearing a Robin Hood mustache and Superman's wife's wedding gown like he does. This is so, so, so…Cumberbatch!
