Monika | 3337 comments Naah, it was only a suggestion to find your own trick that will keep you from some dark thoughts and you'll be able to go on.
I'll keep my fingers crossed :)

Wren (wrenreaders) | 339 comments On a lighter note, I'd like to complain that I saw a video of someone making a gingerbread house out of chocolate bars and now i want chocolate bars.....but I have no money to buy them......

Rick | 15794 comments I had some errands to run today and I didn't do them. I'm complaining about myself here. :P

On the other side of things: I was able to finally see the first two episodes of Doctor Who Series 9 today. :)

Rick | 15794 comments It is completely unfair that my father's health is going to prevent him from coming up to meet his new great grandson Ezra (my grand-nephew) and his (not quite yet here, any day now) great granddaughter Eva (my grand-niece). Two new limbs to the family tree and less than a month apart! And I sense there are alot of names starting with E in this generation. ;)
Alas it will probably be xmas when I get to meet them both, but it will be bitter sweet since their Great-Grandpapa won't be able to be there. :(

No fun Rick. Would sending him videos of the little'uns help? It's not the same as being there, but at least he'd get to see them. Hope he feels better soon.

I'm sure my brother-in-law will be taking pictures, etc. Unfortunately, while his cancer seems to be disappearing, the surrounding tissue doesn't seem to want to heal up.

Wren (wrenreaders) | 339 comments I'm tired of people saying my identity isnt valid. I'm tired of dysphoria, I'm tired of truscum, and transphobes, I don't want to live like this anymore. But it won't go away, so is living even going to be worth it if it hurts so much.

Your identity is as valid as mine. You are valid. You're here, now, and that's valid too. I know it's not easy to ignore the haters, their words filter through the best nets because they are sharp and barbed, but in the end they don't matter. You matter. You get up every morning and do your thing in spite of all the noise, in spite of those jerks who would beat you down with their awfulness.

The sad part of life is that there is pain. It comes in various forms, from the slightly ridiculous to the down right horrible. We all have to deal with it and it's not fun, but there's strength in not giving into it, not giving up. I think you're a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for Wren. It's a day at a time, but all those one day at a time moments have built into an impressive number already. You never know what's coming around the corner, and there's always something new and cool to see or know or learn.

Hang in there. I think you're doing quite well.

Rick | 15794 comments Living is always worth more than not living. There is one thing we all have while living that we don't have otherwise: hope that things might get better. If we are not among the living then things cannot get better.

You're right. But then... For me: I'd never see another full moon rise. I'd never see any more pictures sent back from robot probes orbiting other planets or moons. I'd never know what happens in all those books I want to read. I'd never know what happens in those movies I haven't seen. I'd never have met my great-nephew Ezra or my great-niece Eva. I'd never kiss a man again. I'd never get to meet Roger & Oliver. I'd never get to meet Ben Whishaw or vote for Hillary or Bernie. Yes, it wouldn't matter because I wouldn't know I missed those things anymore, but I'd also miss having the hope of meeting you someday. And that is something I will never forgive River Phoenix, my favorite actor, from taking away from me: a chance to meet him.

well, I mean I guess the way I am keeping myself from ending it all is reminding myself of my bf, who would be devastated if I died. I guess I try to convince myself that if I choose to live, it doesn't have to be for me.

When I need a laugh, these reviews are some of the best in the business.

Rick | 15794 comments I'm very disturbed to see this rise of anti-Americanism as a result of Trump's clear inability to ... Well think. ...or consider the ramificans of what he's saying before he says them. ...or have any sort of empathy for his fellow human beings. ...or conduct himself as a rational human being.

And while I'm on the subject: I'm very disturbed by the Republican National Party for having a complete inability to publicly recognize that Trump has no clue about history, politics, world affairs or that he is actually a recruiter for terrorist organizations by fostering fear-mongering, xenophobia and war-profiteering policies that will only errode the position of the US in the world. But then I shouldn't be surprised because the GOP is now, once again, holding the national budget and the US economy hostage in order to get their demands filled. sounds like the actions of terrorists to me.

THANK YOU! For standing up and bring counted and fighting the good fight! And to think that some transgendered kid, years from now, may use that bathroom and not even know anything about the struggles you've faced. Wouldn't that be nice to know that you've contributed in some way to someone you've never known not having to face the intolerance you've faced. It may just be a dignity on a bathroom, but that is a HUGE societal change.
There were people who politely whispered to Rosa Parks that she couldn't change anything by being stubborn and she should go sit in the back of bus where she was supposed to be sitting. And some people spit on her. But she won.
You're AWESOME! :D

Wren's identity of self worth has flourished through the gratitude of those transgendered individuals who will be better off because she suggested a sign. It is a sign that will make them feel perhaps a little bit better about their identity. It is as sign that things do get better.

You're terrific Wren~!

I'm grouching and grousing about the fact that there are over twenty-six thousand five hundred (26,500) postings in the word association games here in the Complaint Department. 26,500!

Whoever can guess before the end of this year on what future date the three word association games will reach 36,500 postings will become the next moderator of the Complaint Department. The guess must be an exact date.

All entries must be submitted by posting here. The decision of the judge (me) will be final and will be in accordance with the rules of the Complaint Department which I make at whim.

I want to complain that my ginger furball pushed me off my pillow twice during the night. There is another pillow, next to the one I sleep on and she could go there but nooo, it's better to sleep on mine. While the first time a simple pat on her bottom was enough for her to leave, the second time I had to pull the pillow from under her because she didn't want to get up. Now I'm grumpy and sleepy :s

@Wren,

We have the It's Gets Better Project in the US. It encourages people to tell their stories. Tell your friend to go to You Tube and search for 'transgender it gets better'. Perhaps he will find an amazing video like the one I found called "Becoming Ryan": about a female to male transitioning from beginning to end by a person who had attempted suicide twice but lived to become a man. He even found the woman who is the love of his life and he is happy now.

If he had succeeded in his suicide attempts he would never have found that things get better.

The video is at this link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWt1f...

I encourage everyone to watch it because it really does show how Things Get Better.

message 6545: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments So, I hate the "new look."

It is terrible on my eyes. The strain gave me headaches yesterday and I woke up this morning with something approaching a migraine. I got nauseous and dizzy yesterday while trying to deal with the website. It was so bad that I started looking around for another website. Not much luck. I have an account at shelfari, but I don't use it and it's pretty much worthless. Librarything is a pay site, after you pass 200 books (so that's useless for me as I've passed that by several thousand). Others are geared toward authors and publishers. Sigh. There just isn't anything. Marcie suggested leafmarks, I'll look at that one today.

I also increased the size of screen magnification to the highest I can get without having to scoll left and right constantly. That helps. But, the additional changes that were made are helping as well. Still the problem is that I have to close my left eye or else I get nauseous and the letters on the stark white create a contrast that makes me see things floating and blurry (that's with the two eyes, so the whole popeye approach helps). But do have any idea how frustrating it is to ... wait, I'll go by a pirate eyepatch to wear while I'm on goodreads. Yeah, that will solve EVERYTHING! I'll change my name to PieRiq, the goodreads Pirate! AVAST YE SCALLYWAGS! AND HIDE YER JEWELS PIERIQ IS HERE FOR YER CASHY-MONEY!

message 6546: by Monika (new)

Monika | 3337 comments leafmarks looks quite nice, different layout than GR, is it better? hard to tell. we have to wait what will the gr team do, will they bring back the old version and let users choose or not. If not then I'll try to find some patches for my browser and try to change it myself.

But PieRiq is hillarious. I'm waiting for a picture with the eyepatch, lol
And hey - less time spent here means more time spent reading books, so not so bad, imo ;)

message 6547: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments The font is a disaster – clearly no one bothered to test it as an onscreen typeface. I find it's best read on a 27-inch Mac screen seated about thirty feet from the screen, so thank God for wireless keyboard and mouse!

message 6548: by Monika (new)

Monika | 3337 comments I think it got changed a bit yet again since yesterday but I may be wrong.
I wait for them to finish and then I'll probably download a patch created by one user and change fonts and colors etc. Bad GoodReads, bad *pout*

Averin | 1962 comments Go PieRique!

I wish to not complain about my wondrous co-workers who cobbled together the cash to buy a new mountain bike for another co-worker. She's a single mom and her old bike kept falling apart on rides. Normally a total motormouth, the recipient was speechless and in tears when we presented it to her as a surprise.

Although it was not entirely selfless. She is hyper as all hell and the organizer of this conspiracy reminded us all that having a bike to ride on her break would keep the recipient from driving the rest of us crazy.
