I didn't know how to explain.
Y'see, just like obscenity, I don't know how to define it, but I know it when I see it. >s<

scaenus: Latin "scene" – or theater stage, whereon the dramatic action takes place. (The proscaenus or proscenium is the area in front of the stage.
ob: Latin "for"
So, obscaenus means "for the stage" or "of the stage"
They were obviously a filthy lot those ancient Romans…

Yaaaaaay!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROGER!!!!!!

Ah, the good old 70's, when I had reasonably frequent business trips to L.A., San Francisco, D.C., and NYC. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun on those trips. Even with all the damned business-conducting interruptions. >g<

So was it word of mouth or did you use Damron's Guide?

40 or so years later, I'm really not sure. But I suspect I started with Damron's. But I also think there was another guide at the time. Unlikely to have been word of mouth, as within a fairly small circle of friends at home, those who might have traveled to any of those cities would definitely not have been going to the same types of bars (and other establishments) that I was going to at that time of my life. >ahem!!<

Happy Birthday Roger, I thought I'd send you some more helpers to work on your garden.

Happy Birthday Eric, I hope you had a great day!

Did you need some workers for your garden Averin?

After having to work for a few hours this morning, I spent the day relaxing and not thinking. (So very for me!) Bought a couple new books at AMZ. Went to my favorite steak place (801 Chophouse), and treated myself to some wine, and steak, and truffles and chanterelle mushrooms gnocchi, and wine, and caesar salad, and...oh, yes...wine.
Back to the house to continue depletion of my wine inventory just a bit (a very nice Auslese), and finish off "Rich Man's War" that I started this afternoon(sequel to "Poor Man's Fight"...excellent scifi military novels even if they're not MM).
So, yes, a nice day.
And again, thank you all.
Eric

And this is a birthday balloon I got, still floating around our sitting room, so here it is as a thank you to everyone for the wishes and for Eric!

It's nice have a birthday shared between an old fogey who could have sailed with Noah (but for that whole end of the world drowning thing), and a youngster like yourself!

The Complaint Department has added a new rule, #6 which states: "Should there be a member who exceeds the standard, i.e., is greater than 71, he or she shall be designated, with all due pomp, circumstance, and ceremony, as Most Wonderfully Senior Ancient, and shall be accorded all the rights and privileges appurtenant thereto."
Therefore Eric Alan Westfall is accorded the title of Most Wonderfully Senior Ancient.
Consider this the pomp, circumstance and ceremony [cue the music] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LirUE...
Oh no the Birthday celebration is over so it's appropriate to read Eric's short UnBirthday Present or some of his more recent works like Surrender or The Song.![]()

My knees ache. My back aches. I can't help a young hunk unload a truck full of floor tiles without paying the price. Seems like yesterday I was strolling down the garden with a hundredweight of paving slabs on each shoulder…

Thank you all!
And as much as I love Enny's work on the UB cover, folks, you may have a hot flash or three when I get to post the one for The Rake, The Rogue and the Roue!

I regret to inform you that friend of the Complaint Department, Rod Bellamy, now has his book for sale at Amazon. See reviews on Goodreads by Roger Kean among othermisguided butwell intentioned reviewers including me for Mississippi Hustler. Guaranteed lovey dovey HEA unless I misinterpreted the ending.![]()

I also regret to inform you that nice guy Jay Bell has put his short story on Amazon and Smashwords for free. It's one of the best gay shorts I've read. Jay's husband Andreas Bell did the cover art of course.![]()
