Preston | 20148 comments News you can't complain about, a local hero. Clerk defies law, OKs same-sex marriages despite state law barring gay marriage.

The crazed assertions of their website alone make it clear whatever persons or persons are involved in straight pride-uk are not worth paying attention to for anything other than a laugh. Silly, silly people :)

I'm sure you are happy to hear they have no complaints :)

Eric Westfall (eawestfall) | 386 comments Not to change the subject, but...oh, yeah...I guess I am.

I am pleased as punch but don’t let Judy at me profoundly dismayed, distressed and utterly discombibibbibobbidibobulated to share with you the joyful news sad truth that that Love Has No Foundries...uh...is that right? it sorta don’t look that way, but then I fergits sh...tuff easily...has yet another story. I know, I know, exactly the kind of good rotten news you didn’t want. But that’s what y’all are here for, right? To listen to me whinge about being mind-fried with the final keystroke on word number 42,777. And then all those extra keystrokes to send it off late last night.

It’s a response to Zach Sweets’ prompt, which you can find here:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Assuming, that is, that I got the link right.

[Title Withheld Under Threat of Prosecution] is a dark fantasy that took me right out of my comfort zone into new writing territory: the “dark” part, not the fantasy part. It’s going to be a difficult read for some (a lot?) because it isn’t the ultimately sweet, happily-ever-after/happily-for-now story that is customary for the project. Though there is hope...maybe. (Well, ah jes' cain't disclose all mah secrets.)

But it has a WOW! of a cover by Enny Kraft.

So here are the preliminary, as yet unapproved tags ‘n warnings:

Tags: The Kingdom and Empire, mages and magic, shifters, warriors, Stone Beasts, a mysterious Wall, a more mysterious painting, a tested love, an enduring love?

Content Warning: No HEA, no HFN, violence and blood, pain and suffering, mental/physical rape. Perhaps hope; perhaps not.

Content Warning: From forth the fatal loins of Aerisan and Gaarchan foes, two Beast-crossed lovers grow....

So when it gets posted, maybe y’all will drop on by, sit a spell, ‘n have yerselves a read.

Hmmm. I just read the above over. I am so not sorry for shameless self-promotion, on accounta becuz iffen ah don’t do it, ain’t no one will.

Eric Alan, the good ol’ boy what (hush, now) writes them kinda stories where men is gettin' it on with, well, you know....

Preston | 20148 comments I'm PO'd that Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva is a two-faced hypocrite and homophobe. Speaking as one of her country's top female athletes, she defended Russia's controversial anti-gay laws saying we are "normal, standard people".

After she was condemned for her statement she withdrew it and blamed problems with speaking English for what she said.

I think her problem with English was just an excuse. If she really has that severe a problem speaking English she should speak Russian and let the world press use interpreters to translate as would be normal for a non-English speaking woman athlete in the spotlight of the Olympics.

Preston | 20148 comments
I want to raise a stink that U.S. Olympic Committee is a bunch of cowards. The head of the U.S. Olympic Committee said this week that athletes are expected to “comply with the laws” of Russia during the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

That means American Olympians cannot protest or even speak out in support of gays who are being beaten by gangs and arrested by Russian police due to Russian anti-gay laws which call for the jailing of gays and their supporters regardless of wether they are Russians or tourists or world athletes.

Both Obama and Cameron are guilty cowardice too having said their countries will attend the Olympics and follow Putin's laws which violate human rights. Human rights? Hell, they violate the right of gay people to exist. Neither Obama nor Cameron have condemned the Putin laws or even simply pointed out the American and British commitment to free speech.

message 5085: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments It pisses me off that this whole issue with the Olympics would be dealt with in a completely different matter if the issue was not sexuality but instead one of religion. Say, for example, that Russia was condemning Christians and saying that they would be arrested if they prayed or thanked god for helping them win. Heads would be rolling if it was a matter of religion.

message 5086: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2175 comments I'm with you Rick! There needs to be more countries speaking out but sadly it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I did read this, which gives me a tiny glimmer of hope that there are some people that give a damn, too bad they don't have any real power.

You are right of course, if it was about Russian outlawing religious people and crosses action would be taken. Wait a minute Russia does repress religious freedom and control religious symbolism. Only in this case the Russian Orthodox church supports Putin and they agree homosexuals are criminals/sinners.

The Winter Olympics will come and go but the laws allowing Russians to jail anyone who is gay and out about it or their supporters will continue to harass and repress LGBT people who live there permanently.

I regret this is in the form of a complaint, however you don't have to be embarrassed until you start stuffing them in your pocket so no one else can have any.

I moan that most churches are about religion (another spelling of "dogma") and not much about faith, and rarely about charity. For that you have to go to Oxfam.

My father was a Methodist minister (don't worry he got better) and he always taught me that Charity was one of the tentpoles of Christianity. But if America is a "Christian Nation" why do so many "Christians" complain about social programs as being nothing but charity? Wouldn't the "Christian thing to do" be to give money and food and shelter and support to the disenfranchised?

Hypocrits.
