I have no plans to buy a hardcover copy, and no plans to OWN a hardover copy. I will wait to read it at the library, or I'll wait for the PB.

No biggie.

Although I just looked and my library ordered 3 copies, so I might get one right away! Of course then I'll have to take it with me on vacation, risk late fees, and will have jumped from the 1210 page Shogun to the 1120 page Under The Dome.

I am a glutton for punishment. Sweet, sweet punishment. :D

message 204: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments God bless America!!!! I sent you a HB, but it only shipped yesterday for some reason, so...

DON't BUY A HARDBACK♥

message 205: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I knew it!! LOL

You're a naughty girl! But I love ya anyway. And I'm sure that the muscles I gain from lifting it will thank you too. :P

Rachel | 701 comments haha and remember not to fall asleep with it on your chest...it'll kill you :) we can start an urban legend!

message 207: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments haha Rob, don't quit ur day job ;)

message 208: by Dewayne (new)

Dewayne | 12 comments I just got home with my copy of Under the Dome, wow what a monster. I'll try not to fall asleep with it on my chest LOL.

message 209: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments i like a book that if u were attacked in a dark alley you could bludgeon someone with :)

message 210: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I'm about 100 pages in and it is very, very good. It starts right off with a bang (literally) so not a slow builder. Tons of characters, but even in so few pages I feel I know many of them already.

message 211: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments I like how so far he gives the characters their own chapters to establish them. Is it a spoiler to say that not all the characters listed make it? :) maybe i'll start checking them off in the list.

message 212: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I don't think that's a spoiler, because when ever do all his characters make it?

message 213: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Kandice wrote: "I don't think that's a spoiler, because when ever do all his characters make it? "

I know, i kinda meant is as a joke or for any really hopeful fans :)

message 214: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) If every character introduced in the beginning made it to the end of the book, I think I'd think that King had been abducted by aliens or something. LOL

Rachel | 701 comments Becky wrote: "If every character introduced in the beginning made it to the end of the book, I think I'd think that King had been abducted by aliens or something. LOL"

or was messing with us...

message 216: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmmm... THAT I wouldn't put past him. >_> LOL

message 217: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments neither would I...actually that'd be fun...so many chances to make US think he'll kill someone off...and then no :)

message 218: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I don't think he'd be able to resist. Hehe. Short stories are one thing, you have what? 50 pages to make it through, and then you're home free, but 1120? or even a regular 200-300 pager? I don't know if he could resist the temptation for someone to kick the bucket. LOL

message 219: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments haha yeah or at least maim them.

message 220: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Okay, because of our convo in another thread, this is funny. I just read a part where one of the female characters is being intimate with another female, and feeling that she should have grown out of "this" by now. It just seems funny, and I am wondering, if left alone as normal, would this character have realized she was a lesbian, or just experimenting. Just something to think about.

message 221: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmm... interesting.

Know what else is interesting? The library just called and my copy is in. O_o

message 222: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

message 223: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) So now I have a conundrum. Do I finish Shogun, or do I interrupt for Dome? Uh oh.

message 224: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Finish Shogun.

*wouldn't be able to wait*

message 225: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (cindil) | 14 comments OK, my walmart copy (uh-oh there's the bad word) arrived and its 1072 pages for the actual story. Does anyone have the count on the ebay copies or elsewhere? I am curious to know if my copy has been "maytred".

message 226: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments My Amazon copy arrived yesterday with the same number of pages. I was a little confused to see NO writing on the dust jacket flaps at all. That struck me as very strange.

message 227: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) B&N has the page count at 1088 for the regular and Collectors Edition.

message 228: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmm, I wonder where the 1120 came from?

message 229: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Yeah, me too. Every page short it is I feel cheated. I never complain about the length of his books.

message 230: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmmm... The library edition that's waiting for me is 1074. :(

message 231: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Maybe it's taller?? *hopes*

message 232: by Dewayne (new)

Dewayne | 12 comments I bought my copy at B&N this morning and it's 1074 pages, I bought the regular edition.

message 233: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (cindil) | 14 comments The Walmart version is 1074 with the author's note. The actual story is 1072. It is the Scribner release and there are no comments on the inside flaps of the cover.

message 234: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 54 comments I'm with all of you guys... Under the Dome hasn't arrived yet in our country... And I called a bookstore and the lady said that the book will be 1 month from now... so that means, I'll have to drool for a month...
Interesting... the book has no synopsis on its flap? Did I heard that right?

message 235: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Right, there is not only NOT a synopsis, there's NOTHING! It just looks so weird.

message 236: by Eric (new)

Eric | 16 comments Just cracked this book open today. I'm only on page 30 of over 1000 but it seems like it is gonna be good!

message 237: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 305 comments welll, *I* am buying a hardcopy :) SIGNED by Uncle Stevie. I got tickets to see him next week and the first couple hundred or so to get event tickets also received a voucher to purchase a signed copy (at regular retail).
I'll probably keep that one intact/unread and may or may not purchase an additional 'reading' copy.

Tom Mueller | 305 comments Kandice wrote: "Right, there is not only NOT a synopsis, there's NOTHING! It just looks so weird."

Who knows which is the absolute true 'first edition'? Whichever it is, I hope the one I get is really a 'true' first. That said, ANY with SK's signature will be treasured.

I`m really jealous of you Tom. I don`t think King was ever in Ireland. He was in the UK alright (which people often think Ireland is in. It`s NOT! There`s a small thing called the Irish sea in between the two islands!)Maybe someday he will!

message 240: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments ********************SPOILER PAGE 305**************************

Anyone who's reading and gotten this far, page 305 has a description of a faded bumper sticker that says OBAMA '12 YES WE STILL CAN.

So this is to let us know this is the not so distant future, right?

message 242: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Thanks, Tom! I tried so hard to avoid anything that might "spoil" the book for me that I missed that. It was almost torture NOT to read the excerpt King gave us on his website. I wonder if I missed other clues before that. I don't think so...but I wont know unless someone else points them out.

Stacie (stacieh) Kandice wrote: "Right, there is not only NOT a synopsis, there's NOTHING! It just looks so weird."

I'm kind of liking that... it means that the reader is starting out just as clueless as the characters. (well, except for those of us who haunt his website ;p)

message 244: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I, at first, was thinking of this book like The Stand, but on a microscopic level. As I read further, it reminds me more and more of Needful Things. The implosion of a community caused by their own fears, hates, wants and an outside source pulling the strings.

message 245: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Oh God, Needful Things kinda disgusted me. :) and yet i just bought s copy at the used book store.

message 246: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I liked Needful Things myself, but, seriously, this is more like a pre-accident King book. I can't say I prefer pre or post accident, but I can tell the difference. I swear, this one, I would believe, if it came out in the news tomorrow, it was written 10 years ago. I am loving it and may need to read way, way, way past my bedtime!

Martin Maher (martin87) | 72 comments Rob wrote: "Martin: NORTHERN Ireland is part of the UK, right?

Yes Rob. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. Mind you there`s still some violence over that going on still. I don`t think I could see King going there though. I`d say if he ever did come to our little island, he`d probaly make his way to Dublin.

message 248: by Shawn (new)

Shawn | 20 comments I not only bought a copy, I bought 2 copies. I bought a limited edition autographed copy, which I will not open, and a regular hardcover to read!

message 249: by Chris , The Hardcase (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 1169 comments Mod
I was in Walmart day before yesterday to fill a prescription on Percoset. I had a kidney stone last week and I've had some issues with a muscle spasm in the area that was under trauma from the stone. Anyway,

While waiting I went by the book section of the store. I saw Under the Dome and I just had to pick it up. Big mistake. The muscle in my lower back screamed at me from the strain and I had to put it back after just a few seconds. Damn, that book was heavy.

So I went home, took my pills, and started The Gathering Storm. I might need a crane just to get these books around the room, eh? I had an email waiting with news that Under the Dome was shipping from Amazon.....

message 250: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Feel better Chris! When i picked my copy up from Borders i bought a few other things as well, one on a lower shelf in horror section. I knelt to get it and couldn't get back up,one of the salespeople came over and asked if he could help me, i was like "hold this" and gave him Under The Dome and got right up :)
