message 102: by JoJo (new)

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 813 comments How do I find out the thickest book on my TBR, as it doesn't show page numbers?

message 103: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments When you're in the my books section, you can change the settings to sort the books by any number of qualifiers, including page length.

message 104: by JoJo (new)

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 813 comments Thank you! I learnt something new today :) It turns out the thickest book is Les Miserables!

message 105: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Can't get the underlining to work..

message 106: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hi Winter, if you want to underline something, you can put before the text and after the text but replace the []s with <>s.

Like this

message 107: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments that worked, thank you!

message 108: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments David, I think your question is best suited to a different group I help moderate, the Moderator Support Group. Feel free to join.

Many folks use Photoshop, MS Paint, or free editing tools/apps--whatever they're most comfortable with.

message 109: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 287 comments Okay sort of a silly question but I tried to post my personal reading challenge and member corner under the appropriate topics but it only created a separate topic called "general". Is there something I did wrong?

message 110: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Anissa, I think you maybe created the topic from the main page instead of within the folders, but no problem! I've moved your discussion threads to the right folders.

message 111: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 287 comments Thank you for fixing that for me Kara.

message 112: by Nwanneka (new)

Nwanneka Chukwujiorah | 45 comments I saw the example above for marking spoilers however I am still unsure at how to actually do it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

message 113: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments To mark spoilers you
Insert spoilers from book here
Instead of [ ] use < >.

message 114: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments how do I link to my post? much easier if I could do that both for mods and me..

message 115: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments If you're not on the app (there's no way to do it through the app that I know of), you can get the link for a post by right-clicking (on a PC) the time stamp in the upper right-hand corner of the post. For example, your question is: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 116: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments hm I don't think I do it right. Time stamp, is that where it says the dato and time? I right click on it and get up stuff for copying and such, then what?

Thank you Cassandra for leading me back to the topic, totally forgot where I asked it.

message 117: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Winter, once you have the link, then you treat it normally using html:

[a href="YOUR LINK HERE"]link text[/a]

But you'll need to replace the []s with <>s. Hope that helps!

message 118: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Hm maybe the problem is I don't really know how to get the link. But I see people linking to messages all the time, can't be that hard?

message 120: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments nope that doesn't seem to work. what is the href thing?

message 121: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments That's the correct link! :) So I think you just need to put it in the html now. Put that link where I put x below, and then put whatever you want the link to say in y, but replace [ with < and ] with >.

[a href="x"]y[/a]

message 123: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments hmm feel just a little bit stupid :P

message 127: by Laurie (last edited Apr 14, 2015 08:47AM) (new)

Laurie For your books to show up on your 2015 list, you have to add a date read for each book.

message 128: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Naiya, are you giving the books a rating or reviewing them? If you are, go to the main page for each book and you' ll see the "My Review" section just below the description of the book. Click edit review. In the section that you can edit there is a drop down box to add the date finished. This will not add the book to a 2015 bookshelf if you have created one, but it will count the books toward the year's reading challenge. I hope this helps you.

message 129: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Do you see a green button that says "want to read"? Click the little icon that's part of that button to the right (the one with three books on it) and click "currently reading." Then click "read." This is the quickest way to get it to count as your challenge. The downside to doing it this way is that all your books will show up as read today.

If you want the dates on your read list to be correct, click "read" instead of "currently reading" in the dropdown list. A window will pop up that says "Edit Your Review." At the bottom of the review space, you'll see "Date I finished this book." If you enter a date that was this year, it'll show up as part of your challenge.

Hope this helps!

Blagica | 12943 comments Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question so I am sorry if it is not. I am working on trying to update my Lets turn pages challenge and trying to update my stats. Cassandra had told me to go to My states page and get the pages from there but for some reason it is stuck on book 63. before I add more books to it is there a way to actually get it corrected?

thanks for any help

Blagica

message 131: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hey there, if you have books that aren't showing up there, it's likely that they're not marked as having been read this year. You can check this by going to your review and seeing what dates are listed.

message 132: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12943 comments thank you Kara! it worked, just add it to my tab I am sure I will have more questions I will pay in cookies =)

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

Do people answer messages on Goodreads often?? I'm new and very confused so I apologize if I am misusing it but I really want to chat with people about books but nobody in any of the groups I have joined chat with me so I want to use messages but NOBODY I have messaged has replied..

message 134: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Hi Alisha,

I find in our group people are pretty good at responding to messages. There are many ways to chat with people about books. You can chat in the "Lets Chat" section, join a buddy read and discuss books, join a twin read. If you comment in someone's personal reading challenge, most people will respond to you. Not everyone checks Goodreads every day though, so they might not see your message right away. I have had people comment or ask questions on my personal reading challenge page and I don't notice it right away but I do always respond. We have a really friendly group here and I find there are many ways to have discussions about books. Keep trying.

message 135: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Jodi has a great answer. I do want to mention that Goodreads topic notifications can be wonky, especially if you get a lot of notifications per day. If you post on a thread and someone doesn't reply, it's entirely possible that they didn't even get the notification that you posted.

I'm not sure if we have similar reading taste or not, but feel free to message me if you see me reading something you want to know more about or talk about our reactions to it.

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you so much!!

message 137: by JoJo (new)

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 813 comments I have a question. I am currently reading a short story in the Rogues anthology. If I only read the one story and not the others, does it count as a book read?

message 138: by Scott (new)

Scott Flicker | 1191 comments Joanne you could see if somebody has added the story to goodreads or add it yourself. This has been done for some of the George RR Martin short stories/novellas set in the Song of Ice and Fire universe like the Hedge Knight tales that were published in anthologies.

message 139: by JoJo (new)

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 813 comments ok thanks Scott, I'll try that. :)

message 140: by Laura (new)

Laura i have a question: is there anyway to bookmark a post?

message 141: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments No:(
You can follow the discussion, and set how you would like to do so [see the type above "add book/author (some html is ok) ].
Also, you can search discussion posts for the entire group with your name. The search will list your most recent post to your oldest. I hope this helps.

message 142: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments You can do it through your internet browser by getting the link from the post--this is the date/time link if you're on the desktop site. Then you can save it as a favorite/bookmark (depending on what browser you use).

message 143: by Donna (new)

Donna Thomas (goodreadscomdonnalynnthomas) | 5 comments My site says I read a book I didn't and doesn't show the books I read for the book challenge 2016.

message 144: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Donna wrote: "My site says I read a book I didn't and doesn't show the books I read for the book challenge 2016."

The challenge tracker now shows two books read, is that correct Donna?

message 145: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Donna, sometimes if you tell the site you own a book, it assumes you read it, or if you accidentally gave it a star rating (and believe me, this is as easy as moving your mouse over the stars), the site will assume you read the book. I've had this problem in the past.
As for books counting for this year, make sure when you mark the books as read, you enter the date finished.
Goodreads is a great site, but it has several technical bugs that you would think would be worked out considering the site is owned by Amazon. I can say, the site is 100% better than it used to be, but it is still a site for the dedicated and patient.

message 146: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 4 comments Hello!

How do I post the books I've read to the 2016 challenge? If I could get your help I would greatly appreciate it. :)

message 147: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Claudia wrote: "Hello!

You mean the official one? You have to set date read when you write review (or add it) to a date in 2016. If you don't have a finished date it won't add the book. They might also have to be in the "read" shelf, I'm not sure.

message 148: by Jay (new)

Jay (okay_jay) | 9 comments Okay, I couldn't add a folder because Google bounces my confirmation email. How can I fix this?

message 149: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hi James, I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question. If this is a technical issue with Goodreads, I would recommend you try posting in the Feedback group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1) or emailing support(at)goodreads(dot)com.

message 150: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Diane | 17 comments Help!!! I can post on this thread but when I try to start a topic under the 1-25 book thread it says I have to verify my e-mail. I did that a long time ago. Can someone please help? I have tried to post there 3 times.
