I think its not Katy I think he has been curious since Dawson and Bethany. I think it was just right time right place with Katy
I don't know, the chapters from Daemon's perspective made it seem like it was love or at least lust at first sight. Why hadn't he had that reaction with some other human girl if it was a random thing?

I think the fact that she doesn't fall all over him at first sight. She stayed true to herself and gave him some sass ;) And I'm sure it was her love of books was what finally broke him.
