Bubba Mannel thats like asking God to come have dinner with you in person,

Nika ♥Marie♥ No it's like saying if you can't afford to make the movie on your own then don't judge so harshly. Because you don't have to spend the money on the movie. No one is twisting your arm.

PS God has dinner with me every night. Personally. It's called faith!!!

so true

Bubba Mannel You are right on me not being able to make the movie, i dont own the rights and they will not make the same movie twice especially back to back, all i am saying is that they could have done a better job adapting the book to the movie, they didnt have to leave out so much...

message 105: by Angela (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angela I don't think you can judge on the people who tried their best to make the movie. I think you just have to understands the system and understand that they only have limited resource. If they can't make all scenes, then the only best they could do is make the movie good for anyone to enjoy.

message 106: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny I have to be honest. I prefer to see a movie first, then read the book. that's how I did with Twilight.

since the movie can only be surface stuff, it gives you a foundation and the book fills in stuff. movie is almost like an outline, and then the book fills in details.

On top of that, when I read the book, I saw Kristen Stewart talking to me in my head. I saw Alice etc. the movie gave the characters a face when I read the twilight series. It was cool!

Sheechiibii The ending was the only part that got me annoyed. Sure, I missed some other stuff but I enjoyed the movie a lot, I viewed it more as being based on the book but not everything that the book was. Sadly the ending though...I don't know what they were doing. Lena made Ethan forget about her? Is that taken from one of the other books (I've only read the first one)? And the relationship between Ridley and Link was very disappointing as well. Not to mention that they made Ridley much worse (she murders two people) than she was in the book. The whole ending though just has me wondering why. What was the need to change the ending? Getting shot by Link? That's so much less dramatic than getting stabbed by Sarafine, and Lena wasn't the one who brought him back! I just don't get why they changed it. Does it tie in with another book?

Cassie C Sheechiibii wrote: "The ending was the only part that got me annoyed. Sure, I missed some other stuff but I enjoyed the movie a lot, I viewed it more as being based on the book but not everything that the book was. Sa..."

No, and that's why people are so upset. Basically because of how they changed the ending, they can't possible make the other books into movies unless they just come up with new ideas/plotline for them. That's my major complaint about the whole thing. I didn't like the movie because they could have done a much better job. I understand that they can't put everything in, but I think that what they left out was too important for future movies. Oh well, it just means I won't be seeing any other of the movies if they make them haha.

Christine The only good thing I can say about the movie is that they got the names right. Oh well, my brother had never read the books and he really enjoyed the movie, so that's something I guess.

Alice haha no problem :)

message 112: by Ariane (new) - added it

Ariane Ruby I’m sorry but the movie just didn’t turn out quite as what I expect it. The cast are okay (obviously they omitted other significant characters) Lena is insanely beautiful (I love the bad girl thing when she casted out her mother from a human lady’s body). Now here comes Ethan Wate…I don’t know…he’s not really what I had in mind. I don’t really find him “fit” for our Lena. (or maybe its just me). I just can’t feel their chemistry however, there are some of their conversations that I find it “cute and normal” haha…”Oh my God! Ethan Wate is asking me out for a date!” wahaha

You can really feel the gap of the story in the movie. The transition from one event to another one is not that smooth. I know. I had some friends who didn’t read the book but watched the movie and they are quiet disappointed with the movie. They said it’s stale and “just okay”.

Well that’s just an opinion.

Vanessa SP VERY FAR FROM THE BOOK!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I understand they had to make some changes, but come on they made changes that made the movie very far far from the book.

1. The locket incident
2. no kelting
3. no shadowing song
4. no Aunt Marian
5. No lollipop
6. No sisters and dad for Ridley
7. Genevieve killed Ethan Carter Wate
8. Link killed Ethan
9. Ethan forgot about Lena
10. Ethan is 6'2" in the book, looks short in the movie:-) (acting is good though)
11. Macon not being an incubus and so on...

COME ON!!! This are huge changes which are off. I liked the book so much and it seems the movie is so rushed the essence of the caster-mortal world was sacrificed. They focused so much on the love story which resulted in overly mushy scenes and failed to show the interesting world of CASTERS!!!

Vanessa SP Liz wrote: "Temple wrote: "Another thing that I wont to no about more than how thw film plays out. Is the actors who play Lena and Ethan neva heard or
seen them before can they act do they do the main charach..."

The actors are great! The acting, the casting---PERFECT! If they did not take out important factors in the book like kelting, shadowing, aunt Marian or even just the lollipop, this would have been a VERY VERY GREAT MOVIE.

message 115: by Annie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Annie The Movie wasn't bad, but they butchered this beautiful book...I was very disappointed...and the way they just eliminated and changed some of the characters was awful...they did not do this book justice and it makes me feel like the writers just sold out to make a buck...if I wouldnt have read this whole series, I probably would have loved the movie!

message 117: by April (new) - rated it 5 stars

April I'm going to see the movie this weekend with my sister-in-law so I'm actually glad I read some of the comments on here. I live in Canada and I've been wanting to see it since I heard it was going to be a movie back in October. I'm still really excited, but I'm glad I read this, so that I know not to expect tooo much from the movie. I'm sure it will still be good though, and I will buy it whenever it comes out on DVD but I'm still excited to see it, and now I'm a little more prepared to be let down about different things- possibly.. I may really like it, and fan-girl over it.. Idk yet.. I'll let you guys know when I see it

message 118: by Sheechiibii (last edited Feb 22, 2013 06:45AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sheechiibii @Vanessa: Just wanted to say they were right about the eyes, at the end of the first book Lena has two eye colours.

message 119: by Kelley (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kelley I think as a stand alone movie, with no book to compare it to, it was really good.

That being said I really disagree with what they left out. They changed Ridley's character way too drastically. They changed the whole freaking ending/battle scene. By leaving out the fact that Ethan basically has a heart attack when getting intimate with Lena leave out the little cousin's healer powers. Ethan's mom is also almost completely gone. The portrait in his father's office is gone. Finding the locket with Lena is left out which I believe is a phenomenal error in the 'literary license' of the movie. And causing Ethan to forget Lena entirely is bogus. This wasn't even a thought in her mind since that wasn't what the Book of Moons said.

There are some things I understand leaving out or combining for example combining the librarian with Amma's character. I get that. I could even understand leaving out the winter formal scene. But somethings are just too critical to the story to drop. I hope they don't continue the series in film. It would be too disappointing.

Yeah!! Why couldn't they use contacts!?!?!

message 121: by Leslie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leslie I saw the movie again with my mom who also read the book. Since I knew what to expect I could look at the movie a bit differently. I do like the movie but in the end I just can't get over the ending changes. I can get over the deletions but not the changes. It's a shame too because I think they had all the pieces to make is a great series.

message 122: by [deleted user] (new)

From a movie goers point of view this film was amazing, my twon friends who hadn't read the book loved it however as a book lover I was sorely dissapointed by all the plot changes. and the ending, god that was just terrible!

Vanessa SP Sheechiibii wrote: "@Vanessa: Just wanted to say they were right about the eyes, at the end of the first book Lena has two eye colours."

Yeah my error there, at the end of book 1 she had two eyes. One green and one hazel (actually more like gold) as written. :-)

Vanessa SP Charlotte wrote: "From a movie goers point of view this film was amazing, my twon friends who hadn't read the book loved it however as a book lover I was sorely dissapointed by all the plot changes. and the ending, ..."

Yeah, my husband haven't read any of the books and liked the movie. Actually it is a very good movie for someone who have no idea about the books. But for a book lover or someone who have read the books, it's kinda frustrating.

Vanessa SP Angela wrote: "Leslie wrote: "Angela wrote: "All you guy who bashing the movie make me sick to the core. All due respect, you people need to open their mind a bit more bigger! The most important plot in the Beaut..."

Yeah the movie is good, very good compared to Twilight movie. They have to make changes in the movie to capture more audience and make it work since they cannot put everything in the book to the screen. But then again, it's a little frustrating for those who loved the books since they will always tend to compare and anticipate what was on the book. I did actually, but if I haven't read the books, I can say it is really a great movie. I'm quite sad with the changes too but overall it was a nice one, the actors, the setting was GREAT!

message 126: by Beth (new) - rated it 5 stars

Beth what was the book mentioned in the movie??

You know when Lena says "define good" that was never in the book but i would like to know....

message 127: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel To Kill A Mockingbird,

message 128: by Jemma (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jemma I agree. I read the book a week before to see if I wanted to see the movie and took my sister as it is her kind of genre for sure.
Unfortunately for her I sat through the film saying 'thats in the wrong place' 'that doesnt happen in the book' 'he doesn't forget her'. I don't know if theyve put in parts from the other books as I havent read them yet but i thought for someone who hadn't read the book already the film would be a bit confusing. As a movie by itself without a book it would have been ok-ish.

Only upside was I really liked the lead actors. I thought they played the characters how I imagined, just not their fault the story was changed so much. The guy who played Ethan really made me smile at several points, definitely had the whole southern charm thing down (not to mention rather cute). And Lena's character seemed as tough as I imagined her in the book (unlike a female protagonist portrayed in a certain other movie francise who is far more likeable in the novel).

There was no Marion, no Dad, the flashbacks and the whole back story were not explored as much and the final showdown was disappointing compared to the book.

I think if I had watched it before reading it, I might not have read it so glad I did. Its not an awful film, just annoying if you've read the book beforehand LOL.

message 129: by Amber (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amber I always expect the book to be better. But this is the first that I felt like the movie was nothing like the book. They left out so much . I loved the books but the movie (which I watched before I read the books)I was very disappointed with.

message 130: by Alice (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alice I really hope they don't ruin Beautiful Darkness as well...

message 131: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren I don't think the film was very good compared to the book, the way the characters are in your head is totally not how you picture them in the film.

message 132: by Currer (new) - rated it 4 stars

Currer Jean I knew the movie wouldn't hold up when they combined Amma and Marian and didn't make Lena punk rock. These are two very, very big strikes.

message 133: by Tessa (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tessa I was really dissapointed when I saw the movie, maybe that was because I read the book a few days before I went to the cinema. But still! wow! Could it be anymore different?? They can't even make a movie of the other four books or they have to twisted that up to. I can't believe they did that. The book isn't so good either ( let's face it, there are way better books ) but still it wasn't bad and fun from time to time. During the movie I just got angrier and angrier, even the main character ethan wate annoyed me. His voice...ugh and the way he acted...even worse. I could've spended my money way better.

Grlpwr00 did it even come out in canada? i am still seeing previews.

message 137: by April (new) - rated it 5 stars

April I saw the movie and I thought it was FANTASTIC!!! The acting, screenwriting, and storyline were GREAT!!! There was only 2 things that really bothered me about the movie- everything else I can tolerate (and this is my #1 FAV SERIES!!!)- was that one part where Lena said to Ethan that the males I her family can change whether they are Light or Dark, but the females can't. That really bothered me and made me so mad!!! The other thing that bothered me was the ending!!! It was a good ending if you've never read the book! But I had read it, long before I even knew it was going to be a movie (early last year) and fell in love with the book, the story, and the characters.
But the ending was still good. I still liked it. But at the same time I was watching it basically saying "What the heck is this?! Why is she doing that?! Why is Link doing that! No don't do that!! And Ethan no! Not Ethan!" And then the whole Lena goes evil hurting Sarafine I was cheering! I won't lie I cried about 3 times during this movie! I still loved it, but the ending bothered me! Especially at the very end with what happens between Lena and Ethan! I cried again!! It was a very emotional movie for me and a very touching movie!! I adored it!! :)
