Tayla36 | 274 comments I have certain books on my shelves that are my favorites that I re-read often. In fact, I'm getting the urge to re-read a certain 6-book series that I love.

So I was curious as to whether others of you are counting re-read books toward your total, or just books you are reading for the first time.

Leighann (zhelenstilo) I'm counting them, partially because all of my re-reads have been so far (and will most likely continue to be) books I haven't read in several years. If I were to re-read a book that I've read recently (within the last year or so), then I wouldn't count it, since the story would still be fresh in my mind. But a long-delayed re-read is more like a new story to me, so that's enough to count for me. ^_^

Natalie I say if you read it, count it! I try to keep my re-reads to a minimum, though just because there are way too many books on my to-read list.

message 4: by Aprile (new)

Aprile (aprileb) I am not counting re-reads because my goal of 50 books is 50 NEW books. However I am counting it towards my final count of how many books I've read throughout the year, just not to the 50 books.

Hope that makes sense.

message 5: by Deb (new)

Deb I am going to re-read Angels and Demons for bookclub but I wont count it as one of my 50 reads for 2009 but I will add it to the list because it is a book read!

message 6: by Silver (new)

Silver Ususally I only re-read a book if it is a book I have to read for a class and I have already read it before, but I will cound them since it is still a book I have completed and often my re-reads are books I haven't read in a while and I do get more out of them in the second reading.

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) I HAVE NEVER RE-READ A BOOK.

message 8: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I count re-reads, like a previous poster mentioned I likely wouldn't count it if I had just read the book though. I am participating in a few other challenges as well so if a book I have at home will help me with that and I haven't read it for awhile then why not?

I will likely be well over 50 books for the year though with the pace I am currently at.

Maria (minks05) | 84 comments it depends on the last time i read it. if i read it recently, or have already read it mutliple time (like the HP series) then i prbably woulnd't count it. however, the next book for my library book club is one i read for a class in college 10 years ago, so i'll count it when i read it this month towards my 50 for this year.

Lexi | 345 comments I count re-reads. I just finished a book i read last summer and counted it. It is one of my favorite books.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 312 comments I don't often re-read a book, but I do count it if I do. Reading a book at different times in your life is like reading a new book because you bring a different self to that new reading. You've had new experiences and learned new things that can give you a new perspective or enable you to notice different aspects of the book than you did during your first reading of it.

message 12: by KrisT (new)

KrisT I count the books I reread. Mainly if I read a book again it is for a book discussion group and I want it fresh in my mind. I most certainly want to count it then because often I take notes and mark quotes that I want to talk about in discussion. If I am going to go through all that work to participate - it is going to be counted.

Now I know my sister likes to just reread parts of her favorite books...then I would not count it as it is not the whole book being read again. :)

Dorothy (plantwoman) | 160 comments I would count any books read because my goal is 50 books - not necessarily 50 NEW books. My rereads should be very minimal though. I recently reread "Rabbit, Run" just because I wanted to read the whole series as a tribute to John Updike and it had been a long, long time since I had read this first entry in it.
