Sabriel - Chapter 20- The End : Final Thoughts

Death doesn't seem very pleasant... or at least the journey beyond the Final Gate. I see why Rogir didn't wanna die.

Yeah, this book did the whole dying process a lot different than I expected but I liked that it wasn't so much like the others

Certainly is unique, but very terrifying!!

I really appreciate that about this book, how death isn't treated as either permanent nor bad, but that those who call the dead can be evil and those who try to escape death can be as well. I think it really sheds a unique light on how we look at death as being something to fear, as something to avoid, instead of something that's unavoidable but that may very well not be like anything we can imagine--we think of it as permanent because we see physical bodies go and not come back, but that doesn't mean that that's all there is to death, and I think Nix pointed that out in a really cool way. Plus, Sabriel and Mogget and Touchstone are all awesome characters, which always makes a book way more awesome.

I actually think that the character development is a bit shoddy. I for one, never felt close to the characters and felt that we got too little insight into their thoughts.

And i don't know about you, but his version of death is very scary. At least the journey through the gates.

Yeah I didn't feel close with any of the characters either! There could have been some more depth into their thoughts and personalities but they were still very unique characters. I agree! Definitely a scary version of death and the afterlife! will anybody be reading the rest of the series now?

Actually, I've already read Lirael and I'm reading Abhorsen now. I find that both books are better in terms of character development, everything is much more developed.

But while the two books are connected, they have very little to do with Sabriel, since it begins six years later and focuses more on other characters.

I'm not sure I want to read Clariel, people are mixed on it, and either way it takes place a hundred or so years or more before Sabriel and has little to do with this series aside from being set in the same world.
