SOLVED. YA mystery series, boy named Meat [s]

I read a book from this series a long time ago..probably around 2007. I remember the protagonist was a teen girl who had a male best friend named Meat. I believe it was a mystery/crime novel series, but can't be certain. I remember that the girl bought a necklace with something inside it, and the two characters also investigate an abandoned(?) house.
