SOLVED. Childrens fantasy/fiction series [s]

I read the first few books in the series in 2002 (elementary school, 4th or 5th grade). I never finished the series so I have no idea what happens in the end. I know it wasn't a very popular series either, I just found it in the library bookshelf one day and it looked interesting.

It was about three kids (their ages were around 13-15) that were from, I believe, different worlds or something similar to that. But to me, it sounded like each of the worlds were different time periods. One of the boys were from the "future" world and the area that he lived in was full of houses but no one goes outside because everything was provided in the homes. I think the boy lived alone. I'm pretty sure that the girl was from the "past" world but I don't remember her backstory. The second boy is from the "present" world and I think he lived in a rough neighborhood. After the three main characters were introduced, something happened and the three characters met up in the "present" world.

Sadly I don't remember the plot very well but in the first book, I think they had to go to a tower to get a book of some sort? I have a vague memory of all the titles in the series having the word "book".

The Pendragon series by D. J. McHale

It's a long shot but that series also has characters from different time periods and alternate realities. Might be worth checking out

YES!!! Oh my gosh thank you so much!! I thought I would never know what the series is. I'm so sorry I haven't said thanks in half a year, I don't check goodreads very much but thank you so much!! :)
