It depends how many people sign up.
There'll be 16 teams at the start, so we'll try to fill them equally.

Eni | 2349 comments What's going to happen to the threads once teams merge? Is there going to be a new thread for the newly created team? Or captains/co-captains need to browse through both threads?

I'm guessing we'll stick with the original threads since otherwise on the last round the thread would have a huge amount of people on it.

I'm trying to work out a way of propagating goals to other teams spreadsheets but I think it may involve a bit of searching around to see what fits where. I suspect the more involved people are the better your team will do.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3801 comments If a book is submitted for a Defense point challenge... can it also be used for the attack points? Or are all the books basically 1 time use.

Also if we start a book during round 1 and don't finish it, can we continue the book and use it for round 2?

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments "If a book is submitted for a Defense point challenge... can it also be used for the attack points? Or are all the books basically 1 time use."
It counts both for attack and defense.

Also if we start a book during round 1 and don't finish it, can we continue the book and use it for round 2?
The book will count for the round matching its finish date.

Actually it August 2, but yes, if you start book this month it won't count.

August 2nd. We're trying to prevent people piling up 12+ books at the start and equalize things a bit more.

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 418 comments I understand completely! Thanks for the clarification ladies :)

We asked members who want to sign-up, to do it if they are able to read at least 1 book per round (2 weeks). That would be minimum requirement.
If you can estimate how much you'll be able to read during that period, just use that number during sign-ups

Silje (sikna) | 1443 comments I have a few books that are two books/novellas in one, where the two books separatly are app.140pg, but the two-in-one book that I have is 280pg++. Do these books count or not?

message 21: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments If I understand correctly, we can use a book read early in the week that has not yet been attached to a goal for a new goal later in the week. What about shuffling around books that have already been attached to goals?

For Example:

One of our goals is character first name K.
Someone reads Book A with character Kate on Monday so we add that to our goals.
Someone reads Book B with character Ken on Tuesday and it doesn't fit for any of our current goals.

On Thursday we get a new goal of character first name D.
Book A also has a character Dan.

Can we move Book A to meet the new goal and assign Book B to the previous goal from earlier in the week?

message 22: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments No, once a book has been assigned to a goal it must remain there.

message 23: by Cait S (new)

Cait S | 2825 comments I know it says children's books cannot be used unless they can be verified as more than 160 pages by word count, but what is the criteria for being considered a children's book? Example, I'm reading the 2nd Harry Potter book which has been tagged with the genre "Childrens" but is obviously not a picture book type thing. Do I still need to find word count information and get it approved somewhere?

message 24: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Harry Potter and Percy Jackson counts. However, if you are already reading it, it can't be used, because only books started & finish during the challenge can be used.

message 25: by Cait S (new)

Cait S | 2825 comments Got it, thanks :) And no worries, I haven't started it yet. Just picked it up from the library yesterday and thought I'd ask before I decided on whether or not to read it.

message 26: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Just want to make sure I understand....

We have three goals -- we only get to use one book per goal, and then we get another goal (defense points)?

So if multiple team members are reading towards a goal, only the first one gets credit, right? But we will get credit for the book read (attack points).

Once a goal is completed we get a new goal, and if the book someone was reading towards a completed goal happens to also meet the new goal, they can use it towards that if we haven't already claimed it?

Not sure if I'm wording this correctly, but I'm trying to figure out how things work with 3 goals and six team members.

Thanks!

You get credit for all the books you read in attack points. You can apply those books towards goals to get defense points. Once a book has been applied towards a defense point you can't move it. A new goal should appear in your list within 5 minutes once you complete one. You may use any books read during the current round towards goal completion (only one goal per book).

So yes, if a book was already completed you can apply it to the new goal as long as it was read during the current round. Each round is 2 weeks.

I'd say it could count if you read it as one book and tag it that way.
Now I'm not sure if it could be used for tasks. I'll check with other mods to be sure about that one. :)

Check those Wizard of Oz books on arbookfind.com as I know from previous challenges many of them are too short (example book 1 is only about 15,000 pages) and won't count

The later books that I'm reading in the series all seem to fit the page requirement, but I'll make sure to double-check before reading. Thanks for the reminder :)

We are usually going by edition you are reading. (Or edition you have tagged as read on your shelf)
