M Beal | 1680 comments Reading goal. Read a book about someone that lives in a castle. Imperial palace in the Forbidden City in China, would that count.

You can use it! I double checked on that more than once because I started a few really long books this week and I wasn't able to finish them before the end of the first round, lol. The start date doesn't matter at this point, you can claim it whatever round you complete the book (provided you didn't start before the games even began on August 2nd).

The goal thing just means that if you finished a book a couple of days ago during round 1, and never used it for a goal, you can't use it now for a goal that pops up in round 2. Only books finished after the start of round 2 can be used at this point.

M wrote: "Reading goal. Read a book about someone that lives in a castle. Imperial palace in the Forbidden City in China, would that count."

Castle definition:
a large building, typically of the medieval period, fortified against attack with thick walls, battlements, towers, and often a moat.

So the forbidden city works for me in fitting that definition

message 106: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments sounds fine to me. I'd consider it a castle if I lived there.

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Sorry that book ended up being too short despite the erroneous page count listed on GR and Amazon (super annoying!)... :/

Will this one work for green cover?

Yes. It's green
*goes back to check cowboy*

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Thanks Tea! Sorry not an MM :) But I'm super annoyed because both GR & Amazon had that other one listed as 236 pgs and I totally wasted my time on it. Ugh!! I'll have to start this one later as it's 4:30am & I'm tired.

Ghost in the Stacks For weak at the knees,

Would "Knees weak from more then the long rest"

Work?

message 116: by Cait S (new)

Cait S | 2825 comments Another question for weak at the knees. Would "weak in the knees" work for that or does it absolutely have to be "at"?

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Cait wrote: "Another question for weak at the knees. Would "weak in the knees" work for that or does it absolutely have to be "at"?"

I'm ok with in the knees. The sentiment is the same.

I'm ok with this one too. It's the same purpose of the phrase.

I'll check with the other mods. I don't know what the original intent was.

message 120: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9626 comments I also don't know about original idea, but since list is changing, I'd say it should work if it was on the list. Just maybe add date in explanation? Something like it was nth on mm/dd

Anyway, maybe you should really wait for task-writer's ruling.

message 121: by Amy (new)

Amy (amymia) | 461 comments For book with a recipe, does this count?

"I'll email you the recipe [...] It's just hash browns, cubed ham, sour cream and Cheddar cheese. The secret is cream of chicken soup."

Or does it have to have the exact quantities of the ingredients?

message 122: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments It's ok as long as there's the list of ingredients.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5952 comments We have a goal to read a book where a character lives in a castle

One of the team has read blood and snow

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

there are meant ions of a castle in another realm that Snow enters

Page 106 …other realm, her realm. I stood on a balcony in a large white castle ..
Page 111 ... my legs so I sat opposite him on the bed. We were still in the castle in …

will this work?

If not is Palace an acceptable substitute for Castle as someone is reading book with character living in a palace

message 128: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments The castle seems ok to me.

message 129: by Joanne (new)

Joanne For the goal: "Read a book with "a novel" in the title", I assume it's ok if the cover of the book says "a novel" after the title, even if the "goodreads title" doesn't have it.

Many books have "a novel" on the cover but not in the title, for example:
Normal
All the Light We Cannot See
My Sister's Keeper
Gone Girl
Everything I Never Told You

And I found info in the librarians group that adding "a novel" to the goodreads title is an error and will be removed by a librarian:

message 142: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments We got the goal "read a book with a character who is a cat shifter." I read a book this round in which a major secondary character is a shifter. However, in this book what animal he shifts into is not revealed (it's extremely rude to ask a shifter what their animal form is in this world). However, later in the series, it is revealed that he turns into a tiger. Can we use it for the goal? Thanks for answering :)

Renee (reneeconoulty) | 3309 comments With the new weapon scavenger hunt, it says the words must be an exact match. Would this one work? It's talking about a recurve bow, but swaps the order of words around.

Word hunt: If it counts (only says recurve, not recurve bow)

"The fact that you didn't hear the bow go off probably means it's a recurve. A compound crossbow 'twangs' its release."

I think we've been going with the "it either has to match the word exactly or be talking about the item" So in this case recurve would work for it.

message 146: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 1439 comments Will Gus (Bright Side, #2) by Kim Holden work for read a book with a black and white cover? For this goal does it need to be all black and white or just 50% black and white like the single colours?
