How strange!! If I follow the link it shows as 96c US (which it then makes me go to amazon.com.au which is $1.30).... but Renee is also in Aus. I guess that goes to show they price things depending on the person, not just your location!

I've got a few Ellen Hopkins books I planned to read. One example: Tricks. Her books are written in verse, but I can't find a specific word count. They're all over 500 pages though (Tricks is 627), so I know they meet the 160-page guideline.
Can I use them, even though I don't have a word count? I completely understand if I need to use them as half-point books instead of the usual full point for 500+ page books, but I want to make sure that they can be used at all before I try to claim anything.

Thanks, got it from Kobo free too :)

Tricks has 77642 words so you're good lengthwise, but because of the word count it would go under 500 pgs. Cut-off for extra point is 125000 words.
I found word count on ARbookfinder and other works are there too.

Works for me! Thanks. I'm good with it not counting for extra points, as long as I can use it for something. :)
Didn't even think to check ARbookfinder. I'll check there for the others when I post. Thanks for your help.

Do you think this one would fit the makeover goal?
Disfigured: A Saudi Woman's Story of Triumph over Violence

What we consider the title of the book, his original one or the version for the edition read. This point is relevant for different language editions.
I'm assuming that if I read a book for example in Portuguese ( A Luz), the title would be considered beginning with A or L. Although originally the book begins with T or S (The Shining).
Did I make it clear what I want to check?
Juliana - we go with the version marked as read for everything else so I'd say it would be the same for title

I'm going to start Changes by Jim Butcher this weekend and can't find the Kindle edition on here that corresponds with Amazon. The Kindle edition is listed as 449 pgs on GR (link above), Amazon has it listed as 554 pgs (here), the publisher site has it listed as 560 pgs (but I think that's because they are going by the paperback ed). Use the Amazon pg # right since that's the edition I'm reading? And if you are checking the books, how do I note to disregard the GR count since it is incorrect?
I'll look into it Cathy. If I can verify the page count I'll update goodreads. Give me about half an hour
Ok, I've updated the kindle edition of Changes to 554 pages as Amazon has it as "contains real page numbers" based on ISBN 0451463471

I just wanted to double check that the book would be accepted as being long enough, in spite of that line.

Thank you!
Strangely, amazon have it listed as 180 pages based on the print edition, but have that "note" in their description too!!
I think based on Amazon's page numbers you are ok and it will count

Ah well. Thanks very much, Karen!

So the page count on Amazon or some other site might be different than on GR, because "sneak peeks" and excerpts of other books aren't counted here but they are on Amazon. In general GR librarians try to use the actual book or the page numbers from WorldCat instead of Amazon. And they never use the e-book page count. If someone changes the page count they may find it changed back. (Not by me, just it could happen and now you know why.)
You can read more about it here if you're interested: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2...
So for this challenge the mods may need to decide which page count they want to refer to. Many challenges say if you read an e-book or listen to an audio then the most popular mmp, pb or hb will be used for page count instead. But that's up to the mods.
Off to finish my book with "asparagus" in the text... :)

In general we've used the page count for the edition that the person reads unless it's audio (for obvious reasons) or large print.

Kafka on the Shore
Wiki says this: "He befriends a truck driver named Hoshino, who takes him on as a passenger in his truck and soon becomes very attached to the old man."

You may include the subtitle if it's part of the title in Goodreads. (i.e. if you link to the book and it adds that subtitle as a part of it. like Slide: ology: The Art and Science of Creating Great Presentations(

It sounds like it's ok. Hard to make a judgement from that amount. We've been going off the statement that at least a few big scenes in the book should take place in the vehicle. So it should be an important part of the story.

For the goals that include reading a book on an Amazon lists. A lot of the lists include box sets. Could we read one of the books included in that box set and have that count?
On the goal: Read a book with a bike on the cover. Since bike is fairly generic, can any type of bike suffice (ex. motorbike)? Or are you looking specifically for a bicycle?

Looks like it has to be bicycle

We've decided to be nice mods and say yes ;)

What do you mean? Why?
Ok found it :)
I though there was some mistake in spreadsheet.
You can use boon. There is thread in captains group where captains can request boon, and Gods will remove your goal.

Our team has a question. We have this goal: Read a book with the main genre (listed on the first page on GR) as Spiritual
Can we use any form of the word Spiritual (like Spirituality)?

Yes, that's fine Monica.

Cutting Corners would be acceptable, Cait.

When you say "Remember, only books read in round 2 may be counted towards goals in round 2." what exactly does this mean?
I started a book last night, but won't have it finished until after Round 2 begins - does this mean my books doesn't qualify because I didn't start when Round 2 started?
You also say "Only books read during the specified round can be used (“read date” is what counts, not the day you start.)"
So does that mean my book does count?
Thanks for clarifying!
