Rebecca | 215 comments The annual Summer Reading program encourages all of us to expand our reading horizons, so this month we’ll be doing just that! We’ll be doing it in a way that you might not expect though. This month, judge a book by its cover!

For July, read or listen to a book that you pick based solely on its cover. Don’t read the description or the first few pages when you’re deciding and go ahead and ignore the author’s name. Just pick a book that has got a fantastic cover and let us know what appealed to you about the cover and how you ended up liking the book. For this challenge, I highly recommend that you check out our monthly displays, the endcaps, and particularly the Gold Nugget shelf.
This month, I chose Girl in the Moonlight by Charles Dubow because every time I see the cover, it takes me a minute to puzzle it out. The first time I put the book on its side, the cover blew my mind. See?

I love book covers; I think it’s fascinating how an artist can render an entire book into one image. Honestly, the cover is often what will draw me to pick up any particular book and the library staff receives a number of questions every week from patrons hoping to find a book with only a description of the book cover.

Well, dear readers, Girl in the Moonlight was not my book, but that's okay! Every book that isn't for you just brings you closer to one that is for you! So, I've chosen an additional book for the challenge. I've started reading The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd and so far it's pretty good!
