Julia Hörmayer Oh, because I do. 1,10€ per book I order. Except when they have it at my local library which they never do, because they hardly have any English books.
Wow! You can' do any of that here .. You can't even order online ._. I always have to go to the library and tell the librarian all the titles I want to order while hoping she speaks good enough English to spell them correctly, lol.

I just finished The Perfectionists. I would not recommend it and it's exactly the same as Pretty Little Liars and Lying Game. I'm sorry for putting it in this book pool, haha. I wouldn't have chosen to read it myself but my mum bought it for me, so ..
If anyone's interested in my review:

Wow that's different! I got pretty lucky as far as libraries go. My county has one of the best systems in the state.

That's too bad about The Perfectionists! I hope you like the next one more :)

message 53: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer That's awesome! Ours is very good, too. I'm just picky enough to not read books originally written in English in German. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have to buy a book ever in my life again if I didn't want to. You probably don't have too many foreign books either, do you?

I'm pretty sure it's worse. That's how it was with Lying Game, too. Have you read that series?

message 54: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I'm on page 148 of the Selection right now and I LOVE it so far!!! It doesn't happen often that books grab me right away. I mean, after the first chapter I was kind of obsessed already :-D

message 55: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) Too bad about The Perfectionists. I'll probably still read it because I already have it on hold at the library. Also, because I have never got to read the Pretty Little Liars books (can never find the first one). Will see how I go.

I read The Selection a little while back, so i won't read it again. But I did like it quite a bit (although I never went back and read the rest of the series).

From what you guys have said, I might put Cinder back on list and try it again later.

message 56: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) The library's here are like a combination of yours! I get charged like $1.40 everytime I reserve a book because they have to move them between suburbs. BUT we do have online catalogs/reservation.

The best thing is we also have unlimited access to audio and ebooks through the library.

message 57: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I haven't read any ebooks or listened to any audio books yet, lol. I just love the feeling of physical books in my hands and I don't think I'd like audio books that much. First of all, I'm annoyed by most voices and how slowly and clearly they speak and secondly, I probably couldn't concentrate on people talking so long. Most people have it the other way around but I think reading is less exhausting.

message 58: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) I get what you mean. For me it depends on my mood. But I normally use audiobooks at night so I'm thinking/dwelling while going to sleep or while driving.

message 59: by Sydney, Head Mod | Avid Reader | Dedicated Fangirl (new)

Sydney Humphrey (bjjgirl) | 2158 comments Mod
I think the only time I would really use an audiobook is while I'm driving. My dad pretty much only listens to audiobooks since his job requires him to do a lot of driving. And I'm like Julia as far as ebooks - I like l holding the actual book and flipping actual pages.

message 60: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I just finished The Selection, I'm so sad that it's over :-(

Sydney Humphrey (bjjgirl) | 2158 comments Mod
So you liked it? Luckily for you, there are three more books in that series! :D

message 62: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I know!!! But I probably won't be able to read them until two weeks, bc if I order them today, I don't think they'll arrive until Friday and then I'll be on trainings camp for a week and they don't ship on weekends, I think.

message 63: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) Just finished The Rosie Project. Can't wait to get the sequel! Really good story. Great to read an adult recount of autism. After reading this I have realised almost all stories focusing on autism have child characters.

Sydney Humphrey (bjjgirl) | 2158 comments Mod
Julia, I suppose that's not too bad though, because you don't want to finish them too quickly! And Becca, that's great! Hopefully I'll start reading it tonight!

message 65: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I'm quite excited for the sequel, too but I have so many other books to read first and I spent SO much money on books recently ..
Idk. I always think the same but I find myself being more into the story if I read all the books in a row or when there isn't too much time in between. With the Hunger Games for example, I didn't read the third part right away (I do this quite often with trilogies) and then only picked it up when the movie was coming out. And I didn't exactly felt drawn to the story so much. When there's been some time after you read the book(s), you don't feel so affectionate with the plot and the characters any more. If you don't read all the books in a row, you get to enjoy the world longer but then you also may have trouble getting into it and don't enjoy the book as much as you would have otherwise ..
I think it's so sad when you forget about books you loved SO much but I'm also not the person to reread books as long as there are unread books for me out there. Though I really have to reread The Book of Lost Things and The Vampire Diaries quite soon ...

As of earlier today:
ACADEM'S FURY: page 210
DUNE: HOUSE ATREIDES: page 75
A RARE BENEDICTINE: PAGE 2*

*Got distracted Saturday when I got a piece of brown rice from dinner lodged in the socket in my jaw left over from a dental extraction the day before. After I tried and failed for THREE DAMNED HOURS to dislodge said rice grain, I walked my butt down to the local ER and the doc there got it out with a pair of surgical tweezers...in less than a minute once I got seen, and then she banned me from eating rice, tapioca pudding, popcorn, steel cut oats and (possibly) corn; esp. corn on the cob, until the socket heals. *sigh* This summer has just officially become my 2nd worst summer in 12 years.

Aww dang bad day! My summer wasn't all that great either :/

message 69: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I'm currently on page 89 of Fairest. It's really interesting, better than I thought. It's more an entire book in the series than some extra book but it does play in another time. I won't be reading much today, since friends are coming to my place. It's so annoying, I noticed that it doesn't matter if I read the books in this pool now or not, because after A Court of Thornes and Roses, I won't be able to read all the other books anyway. I did order two from the library but I doubt they'll arrive in time.
But this is fun, I'll most likely join next month, too! :-)

Bec (_becandbooks) @Julia, if anything I enjoy the chatting about the books better than actually reading a heap.

@Amber, hey they have some cool crazy baby foods these days (view spoiler)

In other news, I started and finished The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night. A lot shorter than I expected. Also a lot stranger. Reminded me of Roald Dahl.

message 74: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer True, I wish all the books I read this month would be on there so I could talk about all of them, haha.

message 75: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer I just finished Fairest. I really liked the way the author chose to go with Levana's background. Other than the characters Scarlet and Wolf, it seemed pretty authentic.

Julia Hörmayer I've read 3 books already, too. Just saying, haha :-)

I know this has nothing to do with the topic but has anyone of you read Ruby Red already?

message 82: by Sydney, Head Mod | Avid Reader | Dedicated Fangirl (new)

Sydney Humphrey (bjjgirl) | 2158 comments Mod
Yes! I read it back in July. I really enjoyed it and am about to finish the trilogy. However, I also happen to be biased towards time travel books...

message 83: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer Oh, I kind of hate it. Maybe that's because of the German writing style, it's so ridiculously trying to be modern and doesn't sound good or mature at all. The protagonist is 16 (my age) and acts, thinks and speaks like she was 10.

message 84: by Sydney, Head Mod | Avid Reader | Dedicated Fangirl (new)

Sydney Humphrey (bjjgirl) | 2158 comments Mod
Eh. Maybe it's different in Austria, but (unfortunately) there are plenty of 16-year-olds like that here in America.

message 85: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer Really? That's funny to hear, cause like ALL Austrians wanna be like Americans. It's SO funny when you them talking about Americans. They seriously think that everything's like in those Hollywood movies :'D But I must admit with all those movies and famous YouTube stars it's hard to think differently. I would like to ask you if you have as many 'cool kids' as we do but you couldn't know since you don't know how it's in Austria, lol. Are most teenagers skinny? Do they wear blackfashion, Brandy Melville and stuff? Wanna be just like those kids on Tumblr? Love coffee? Have iPhones?

message 86: by Sydney, Head Mod | Avid Reader | Dedicated Fangirl (new)

Sydney Humphrey (bjjgirl) | 2158 comments Mod
Haha! Well, I'm actually homeschooled, so my information on the general teenage public is somewhat limited. Which famous Youtubers? All the Youtubers I watch are British... :P Are most teenagers skinny? Eh. More are skinny than overweight, in my experience at least. However, there are definitely a lot of overweight teenagers too. I've actually never heard of blackfashion or Brandy Melville, but again, I could be a little out of the loop. Most love Starbucks and have iPhones, although I think a fair amount have Androids instead.

Also, points have been updated! Hopefully I'll get to read some this weekend. Right now I'm cramming To Kill a Mockingbird for my literature class summer asignment and re-reading Cinder for another group's BOTM. If I'm lucky, I'll finish one or both of those this weekend and get to move on to some books from the pool!

message 88: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer Have you always been homeschooled? Isn't this awefully expensive? Do you have the same teacher for all subjects? Or do you learn through the internet (I've only recently heard of this and it sounds horrible)
You haven't heard of it? Wow. Brandy Melville is THE most popular store for cool kids in Austria. It's an American brand and only opened a store in Vienna like a year ago. Blackfashion is this new Tumblr clothing style that is so famous nowadays, I like it a lot, too.
We love Starbucks, too, haha. What brands DO people wear where you live? Hollister? Abercrombie & Fitch? American Apparel?
Do you know Amanda Steele /makeupbymandy24 and her squad? They are like THE typical American cool kids, everybody wants be like them.

I will be gone for a week from tomorrow morning on, so I'm pretty sure I won't be able to go on goodreads in that time.

message 89: by Julia (new)

Julia Hörmayer How old are you, btw? Sorry if I've already asked, I never remember those things.

Sydney: I thought Cinder was in the book pool? Or was that last month's book pool?

I'm listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu7x_... The narrator is Iras Algor, a wizard played by the late Sir Christopher Lee. The band is called Rhapsody of Fire and they are from Italy. They are a genre known as Symphonic Power Metal.

Julia wrote: "Have you always been homeschooled? Isn't this awefully expensive? Do you have the same teacher for all subjects? Or do you learn through the internet (I've only recently heard of this and it sounds..."

I've been homeschooled since I was eight. I don't think it costs too much. It's more expensive than public school of course, but we used to go to private school and that's even more expensive. My mom used to teach my sister and I all of our subjects, but as we've gotten older we've begun going to a homeschool co-op one day a week for a few classes like math and science. For example, this year I'm taking Calculus, Physics, and American Literature at my co-op and Spanish with a private tutor. History is the only subject I will study by myself this year.
Haha so I looked up Brandy Melville. It looks pretty cute! According to the website, there aren't any locations in the southeast United States, so that's probably why I hadn't heard of it! I looked up blackfashion... you mean, like, black people fashion? If so, that's actually pretty funny! Never heard of that as a defined style before. I believe Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch are both pretty popular. Aeropostale too, last I heard, and also Forever 21.
No, I'd never heard of Amanda Steele! My sister follows her though. I'm too lazy with makeup to follow makeup channels :P
And I'm 15, by the way :)
