Chrissie (chrissiekat) | 24 comments Hey all.

So I remember receiving this picture book at least 15 or so years ago to read. In it the main character, a young girl, went to school and while she was at school the family cat was taken to the vet. The cat was sick for a while and died. I'm pretty sure the cat was a ginger tabby, or the little girl owner had red hair. It was primarily about her grieving and accepting the death. I can't recall the title and I'd love to figure it out!

Thaddeusly | 10 comments A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass? Though that one is more about a girl with synesthesia... Her cat is named Mango the Magnificent. He's white and grey. His sounds are perceived as orange though, which would work for a ginger cat. It came out 12 years ago. Mia is also trying to cope with her grandfather's death, I believe.

Chrissie (chrissiekat) | 24 comments I've read that one, but alas that's not it. this book was a picture book.

Chrissie (chrissiekat) | 24 comments thank you though for your help. sorry for the back to back post phone acting up

Oops. Sorry. I didn't read the description carefully enough and missed that it was a picture book.

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) | 86 comments The tenth good thing about Barney except I think it's a little boy not girl.

Chrissie (chrissiekat) | 24 comments Mindy, That's not it either. Thanks though!

Chrissie (chrissiekat) | 24 comments I'm going to bump this because it's been awhile.

I remember the girl's mother taking the cat to the vet during school because the cat wasn't eating like she normally did. I think she might have been given one more day at home. I remember at the end of the little girl grieving she brought in her cat's food dish to give to the new rabbit in the classroom.

Chrissie, can you describe the illustrations - realistic/cartoony, simple/detailed, painted watercolors/bold graphics, sunny/dark/muted colors/black & white, etc.? Do you remember the cover image?

Is the child definitely a girl?

Just in case you're interested, here are some kids books about losing a pet:

Chrissie (chrissiekat) | 24 comments Kris, the illustrations were realstic and I believe in watercolor. Nothing was extremelly bold but they were lovely to look out. The backgrounds were fairly flushed out as well.

The child was defiantly a girl and so was the cat. I looked through the link but none of the books were there. I remember being given a copy after my grandmother died, I thought by the funeral home maybe. The car might have been named Muffy or Minnie or something like that.

Thank you for your help!

Kelly (khek) | 270 comments There's an Ann Martin picture book about a cat that dies. I don't remember anything else about it, but it's NOT Leo the Magnificat, which is the only one I found on a quick search. (Those Babysitters Club Books make her hard to look at quickly!)
