caresscoffee | 3 comments I can’t for the life of me remember the name of this book or the author, and would appreciate any book recommendations that fit the description.

there’s a single(who is secretly a virgin, and some might even call her a spinster) woman who adopted her sister’s two daughters, Maxine(Maxine is a junior, her father was a stunts man named Max) and Daisy, after she dies… she’s also raising her younger sister… she’s been in love with Daisy’s father for years but he rejected her when they were younger, and he doesn’t know he’s the father because when she tried to tell him he just brushed her off and said he was leaving town(she’s also keeping the fact that he’s Daisy’s father a secret from him, but he finds out later in the book)
Fast forward six or seven years, he comes home because his family needs help, meanwhile her family still owns the local bar(his family looks down upon them because they're poor and generally consist of criminals)
It’s got a Romeo and Juliet-esque vibe as his family is rich and thinks themselves better than her poorer family, when he starts dating her his family is horrified that he’d date that “gutter scum” especially after they find out she has two children with no father… she works as a secretary, and he owns a hotel or a lodge or something in Colorado or Montana or some such
The sister she’s been raising ends up marrying his politician brother and they move away so she can become an actress… the sister’s whole relationship was weird and gross, but it’s not the main focus, so I just dealt with it

His sister was in a relationship with her boss, they lived together until she got pregnant and had a miscarriage, she left him and went to live with her parents

There’s a scene in the beginning of the book… she doesn’t know he’s in town yet, he gets on the same elevator as her… she’s shocked and panicked to see him, she’s also mad… he left town without saying goodbye and was quite rude when he left, he also blew her off when she tried to tell him that he’d gotten her sister pregnant… she thought he should know since he is the father, but then he comes back into town years later and she’s anxious about him finding out, thinking he might decide to take Daisy away from her… anyways, she’s shocky and panicked to see him get into the same elevator as her, she’s incredibly rude to him since he just left town without a goodbye or anything, she tells him that she thought they were friends… they chat a bit(mostly her being rude and him saying things like, we are friends, so why are you being rude to me?), the elevator gets stuck, he convinces her to climb on his shoulders to open the lil hatch at the top of the elevator, but while she’s up there, on his shoulders, the elevator doors open, and his family is standing there… she makes a hasty getaway since his family is rather rude to her
