Anna I have came across a book with the same ISBN, but different book covers.

I have done a little research and both books are correct. However, only one of the books is listed on goodreads. Do I create the other version with the different cover on goodreads (and combine) even though it has the same ISBN?

I've never came across this situation before.

EDIT: One is an American edition, whilst the other is UK.

amaldae (staticatku) | 593 comments Yes, sometimes ISBNs are reused. You can add the edition with another cover on Goodreads if you're sure it doesn't already exist (w/o isbn it can be harder to find if it does...) and leave the ISBN field(s) empty, but you should put a mention of it ('alt cover edition for isbn #') on the description field and attach a librarian note to the record. Personally I also like to link the records so non-librarian members can find the ACE. :)

Anna Thanks. I will give it a go and post a link here for you to see?

amaldae (staticatku) | 593 comments I'm sure it will be all right, but please do if it makes you feel better. :D

R.F.G. Cameron | 3 comments Since the ISBN records format (print and size / e-copy), author, publisher, but not cover, depending on the publisher it is possible to have one book with one ISBN and a variety of covers versus one book with a plethora of editions aimed at different countries, and hence different covers.

Anna This is what I have done: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

I am a new Librarian so careful when it comes to editions and ISBN changes.

amaldae (staticatku) | 593 comments I added a librarian note that will show on the combine page so no one will accidentally trash it (that can only be added after saving the record once, so no worries). :) it's all good.

Oh thank you! I forgot to do that. It is a funny little book. I have also found more UK editions with different ISBN numbers.

I won my copy in the giveaway so no idea what edition I have. But definitely has the same ISBN as the American version.

amaldae (staticatku) | 593 comments Yes, that happens. Especially with older books :)

And I'm sure we would be spared a lot of work if everyone asked what to do when faced with a new situation... Many answers are also already provided within this group and in the librarian manual.
