I'm building a list myself but it's a slow process and I don't really have any ideas on how to do it faster. All the best with yours, though. :-)
How are u doing it Lynne? I have a form on my website that offers two free chapters if they sign up.
Yes, I have a form too and they get the first chapter free if they sign up. I think that's the standard way to do it.

Hi, G.K. Based on all the research I've done on marketing books, a website landing page with a mailing list sign-up form is a big necessity. I've studied some very successful indie authors who use this technique for staying in touch with their readers. Building a mailing list of readers who love your work is the key to success, because you can notify them when a new release is coming out.
I set up a very simple/basic website myself:

It's not optimized for mobile devices (yet), but I'm working on that this weekend.
I use MailChimp to collect the e-mail addresses. Most do, from what I have read. It's very easy to set up.

Thank you ladies! I have one on my website as well and I've just recently been getting more sign ups! I have no idea where they're coming from but I'm happy :)
I do as well. It was pretty easy setting up a webpage with Wordpress. I've been playing around with it trying to figure out the best layout. Finally found one that would let me create a static landing page with a sign up button to my MailChimp mailing list form. Seems to work pretty well.www.lisaemme.com
Wow that's a ton! How do you set up the traffic pipelines? And I'm totally clueless on SEO. I've done some advertising on FB and maybe get a couple sign ups but usually end up spending way more than is worth it. I'm currently using Mailchimp as well, but the free version.
I've tried advertising on Facebook and have found it useless, for works of fiction, anyway. My husband's business fared better.
I use MailChimp - it has apps for Facebook and other social media platforms to collect email addresses and sign up html widgets for websites, landing pages etc. WIX has an app for mail chimp for any website created on it and I'm certain other website creating & hosting site like WIX will too.Mail Chimp enables you to create html email campaigns and track analytics - like open rates, who opened who didn't where did they open it how many times and did they share it.
It's free up to 2000 subscribers. I've been using it for years with no issues. I've used it for work in my sales / marketing roles and now the company I work for is going to be using it because of the reports I'm able to generate and the look of the emails.

@P.B. - great tips on driving traffic and building a list. Here are a few additional notes...
1. Set up a landing page that minimizes distractions.
2. Offer something of value for free in exchange for the visitor's email address (a lead magnet).
3. Sell the benefits of your free lead magnet. Make it irresistible.
4. Make sure the visitor understands what she'll receive as a subscriber. You want to meet, and ideally exceed, her expectations. That maximizes retention.
5. Track conversion rates by traffic source (Facebook organic, Google, Bing, guest posts, links inside your book, etc.). That way, you'll know which sources are delivering the best prospects for your mailing list. You'll need to install an analytics program to do this properly.
6. Focus your efforts/ad spend on the sources that yield the highest conversion rates (opt-in rate).
Definitely do organic search. Definitely do social media. And maybe do paid search depending on your budget and audience.
But everything should point to your landing page so you can build your email list. That way, you'll always be able to reach out to your audience.

Incidentally, I'm using Aweber.

Hello April. I'm new to this group. I just started a blog. How do you set up a sign-up page on a site and what are readers signing up for? A newsletter or something else?

Has anyone had any luck in collecting email addresses? I'm doing KDP Select right now and don't have access to anyone who is buying my book. I wanted to set up a landing page or something to collect email addresses so that I can let people know when my next book comes out. Any tips? Any promos that have helped you? Thanks!
