Indie Scene Magazine - Submissions Needed
Jim, you are so very silly sometimes. And Joo, KUF sounds like one of those racist groups. Where on earth are you spending your time these days...?
The deadline for submissions isn't until next Monday, then it'll take me a few days to get the final submissions typeset and approved, by which time it'll be almost March.
I could choose my own March reads but I'd rather drive readers here and to KUF than start up yet another book group.
Can I quote you as saying,"Dear reader,
Hir is a generally accepted term among groups who embrace multi-gender identification.
Adam Summers, Bedford (Author)"

I think that should read
Adam Summers, hounded fugitive
:-))
Would you be interested in an article about 'Combating Writer's Doubt'? That insufferable little gem at the back of a writer's head telling them to put down the pen because no-one is listening (err...reading?). I'll do my best with a touch of humour!
That sounds interesting. Have you any idea of a word count? Also, the deadline is Monday. Is that okay?
When you say Monday, on Tuesday, it isn't a deadline, whole days of procrastination lie between'Anytime in the next twenty minutes' is a deadline :-)

Jim, by Monday, I think I will have exploded. How I could have ever thought I could do this justice with eight pages I do not know. It's already 45 and counting.I am going to need a lot of volunteer proofreaders next week, please!

DEM, I suggest either removing your email address from your post or changing the '@' to 'at' or something. Otherwise bots might pick it up and you'll be deluged with spam. :)

D.M. You seem like the leading authority of British authors by genre. How about you send me your list of fantasy..."
Poor Jimbo Smithers is living in the middle of Lough Neagh! I hope he can swim (sorry, I'm way behind on this thread)

don't worry, there are always plenty of people who will spot the errors for you.
Normally after a work is published which doesn't help because even the writer can see them when it's published :-))
The plan:- appeal to a dozen people to proofread 4 pages each
- edit
- email the complete magazine to contributes 24 hours in advance
- make any last minute changes
- launch for the masses
What do you reckon?
I'm doing some proofreading myself but I'm rubbish at it.
It may seem silly, but ask contributors to proofread stuff they never wrote,as you know what your stuff says so never proofread it properly :-)
That's the plan. I'm hoping contributors won't mind checking a few pages of each other's work. The more professional the magazine, the more it will benefit each contributor. An typo-ridden indie magazine banging on about the standard of indie work would be somewhat counter-productive!
This where you contact a good editor, have them give it the once over, and grant them a big ad in the issue ;) But, failing that, I'm up for proofing.
I would, but I'm not sure that the distribution for the pilot issue will be vast enough to pay somebody proofing 40,000 words, no matter how big their ad!
There's been a last minute emergency and I'm short of one author for the main feature, 'Stu Ayris in conversation with [insert name of another author here]'.Any volunteers? I have a slight preference for a female but it doesn't have to be. Ideally I'd like somebody from this page:
http://www.indie-book-bargains.co.uk/...
That way I can say 'Two award-winning authors talk books, life and ...'
Please let me know if you're interested. It would involve having an email conversation with Stu over this weekend. You'd get to advertise your book in an inset.
Just a reminder that today is the deadline for submissions. If you're planning on submitting anything later today, please can you email me ASAP so that I know to leave space.Apologies for not personally following up everybody who offered - that was my original intention. However, the project snowballed and so unfortunately, I'm not going to have a chance to send out individual reminders. I really don't mean to be rude - I'm just snowed under!
It's nice to know that the project has snowballed, I must admit I'm genuinely looking forward to the mag!
The magazine is now out.Should I start a new thread or rename this one?
