Indie Scene Magazine - Submissions Needed
I suspect when people see what the magazine is like, you will get articles Rosen. At the moment people are a bit in the dark. (I am! - So what's new there?)You might have to commission them initially? Good luck with it.
It will be a PDF - A4 but with fairly large text so that people can enjoy it on tablets.I think I should have enough articles for the pilot. As you say, when people see it they will be more inclined to submit articles.
If it takes off, I'll sell advertising space and use it to pay people who contribute to further editions.
Well done, yet again Rosen, on all the hard work that you do to promote your fellow indies!
As a reader, I will look forward to seeing this. I check the Indie Book Bargain email every day.

In case people need a feel for what I'm producing before deciding whether to contribute:http://www.goodreads.com/photo/group/...
UKAKF will be credited inside.
That's a fab idea Rosen ! How do you manage to find the time to do all this stuff you do? I think I need lessons in efficiency, would you mind being my teacher?
I've got some questions...It will be a PDF - A4 but with fairly large text so that people can enjoy it on tablets.
What about people who are not on medication?

Why does the pilot get all the articles? Is he a good editor?

I'd imagine it would take off, seeing as you have a pilot.
Will it focus on British indie writing? Will it cover mainly fiction? Will it tend toward certain genres? How often will it come out? Do you need someone to write an annoying painful humour column?OK, scratch the last.
Cover looks good :)This is a pun-free posting brought to you by the makers of Interweb, and the letter e.
I'd love to contribute... I'm just not sure what kind of submissions you want, Roz! (Obviously not had enough coffee today!)Are there any kind of articles you want to include that you don't have yet???
Sorry if this post doesn't make any sense!
Will it focus on British indie writing? Yes.
Will it cover mainly fiction?
Yes, but not exclusively.
Will it tend toward certain genres?
It will cover any genre.
How often will it come out?
It's a pilot.
Do you need someone to write an annoying painful humour column?
How bad?
Depends - you could focus a quiz around a specific book, series or just a genre generally. Fairly simple affairs, but interesting - maybe winning a free ebook for a lucky entrant (who gets it right!)Offering incentives would be good for growth.
Rosen wrote: "Would you like to write a quiz about a specific genre?"I wrote some questions once for a forum - they were cryptic clues for books, so 'Snow-coloured molars' was the clue for 'White Teeth'. I'll happily dig some out for a small quiz column.
Quizes are maybe something to keep up your sleeves once you have it all set up and running. Don't bite off more than you can chew!
It's good to give it a unique angle - and British might be enough...Yes, maybe quizzes could be thought about later. What do readers really want to read? Reviews for sure. Maybe some kind of listing (charts?) of British indie author and their works - that would have to be limited. We have some lists to start with - Rosen's own map of authors, my British Indie Fiction genre author listings, Ignite's blog, this forum...

I'm already including a 'New releases' section with reviews. Also, a page of highlights from the 2012 book awards.D.M. do you have any ideas for articles focussing on the British aspect?
Sounds interesting.Author interviews maybe? Has that been suggested?
Book of the month?
Maybe those linked.
Author X and his her book, nice little interview and a bit of promotion, could swap around genres. Readers get to see something new and "meet" an author, author gets some publicity.
D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "Depends - you could focus a quiz around a specific book, series or just a genre generally. Fairly simple affairs, but interesting - maybe winning a free ebook for a lucky entrant (who gets it right..."I agree, sounds like a good idea.
Even have a theme- Authors begining with A, British books set in Yorkshire. Welsh authors, that kind of thing. I might be able to help out.
Alexandra wrote: "Haha looked at the title and somehow my eyes saw Erotica Magazine- Submissions needed."That would be insertions, not submissions, I think.
Yes, Alex, I was thinking something similar along the lines of British geography. We could also use regions rather than counties. This would give the magazine a strong British feel.Of course, some British authors (traitors all! ;0 ) may set their books in other countries (or even not in this world at all) so maybe some kind of reference to their origin (birth county) in the way the books/authors are grouped?
Maybe we could make a huge map that would point to all the locations of where stories take place and/or authors' birth counties.
I've been following this on kuf too. It's a fantastic idea. Maybe a regular feature from a pro editor with some hints/tips/carefuls. Avid readers with pet hates, so we can all avoid them. I can think of one lady who would make an excellent contributor as a reader.
I could use the indie map of the UK and Ireland to accompany an article focussing on books set in a particular region. It could address the specific locations used, authors' connections to the place and that kind of thing. Any takers?http://www.indie-book-bargains.co.uk/...
Oh yes what a good idea!Mine is a fantasy world but yes authors' places of birth/residence would work nicely.
Readers could then look at the "support your local indie author"
Rosen wrote: "I could use the indie map of the UK and Ireland to accompany an article focussing on books set in a particular region. I know there is a fantasy group near to me. I belong on FB. I might be able to ask them if any authors or readers there want to be involved. Or if they would plug it when we have local authors.

Independent publishing is a profession so why not have a glossy, professional magazine?
If you would like to submit an article please send me your proposal. The deadline is Monday 25th February (two weeks time.)
I'm happy to promote UKAKF. Perhaps I could include an advert for your next competition or live chat? (Although bear in mind that the magazine probably won't be launched until March.)
