have you read all of the Abhorsen books? he's released a new one "To Hold The Bridge" its a short story collection and the eponymous short story is set in the Old Kingdom.

I'd suggest Jonathan Stroud's works esp. Bartimaeus The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus, #1) by Jonathan Stroud and Lockwood & Co. The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co., #1) by Jonathan Stroud i'm not sure if the writing style is similar but he's also brilliant like Nix and there's alsoSeraphina Seraphina (Seraphina, #1) by Rachel Hartman by Rachel Hartman. Its not at the level of Sabriel but its quite okay and if you like dragon ladies (in a literal sense) then maybe you'll like it. Skulduggery Pleasant Series Skulduggery Pleasant (Skulduggery Pleasant, #1) by Derek Landy by Derek Landy, there are necromancers, magic, malevolent beings etc. in there somewhere though its more urban, Mistborn Series The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson by Brandon Sanderson. His take on magic is quite refreshing and unique and the story's got substance although its a little slow going at first. Oh and Sorrow's Knot Sorrow's Knot by Erin Bow by Erin Bow i didn't enjoy it that much but it reminded me a lot of Sabriel.
