Nick grabbed the keys and tossed them at Dustin "You drive" he said jogging down the stairs and grabbing his jacket from the hanger.

Dustin caught the keys and laughed softly," me drive?" He asked," You should be the one driving." He teased a little bit but got his hoodie and walked out the door to his car with Nick
"Nope. Cuz im riding in the back with the dog" he grinned hopping in the passenger seat and buckling up. He was glad to finally get one. Maybe it would help keep him company when Dustin was away.
"I should ride with him.. He'll have you all to himself when I'm gone and I won't have anyone." Dustin complained a little playfully. He drove them to a small shelter so they could find a cute puppy." Alright pick whichever one you like."
"Fiiine ill drive home" he said realizing it was fair. He was already unbuckled and practically leapt from the car in excitement. He hurried in and waited for Dustin shifting from foot to foot anxiously.
Dustin laughed softly as he stopped the car," you don't have to Nick I can drive home." He replied then laughed harder watching him basically fly out the door," Jeez could you be anymore excited?"He asked teasing him
"Nope!" He grinned and took his hand once he got inside. They were led back to the kennels which housed all the dogs. Nick's eyes widened seeing all of them "Can we get 5?"
Dustin laughed softly and followed him around to the kennels. He put his arm around his shoulders," no we can get two if that's what you want." He told him softly," if we had a bigger yard and a little more money we could get five."
Nick thought for a second about how much dog squeeze he'd have to pick up with two. "Okay... one for now" he grinned. He stopped and hurried over crouching down. A small collie puppy yipped at him through the cage. Nick stuck his finger in to pet it winning a slobbery finger from licks. He laughed a little and moved sideways for Dustin to see "What about her?"
Dustin chuckled as Nick decided on just getting one dog today." Alright then one it is." He replied watching Nick run over to a cage with a small puppy in it. He walked over and stood behind him," well she is cute." He replied," and she likes you so let's keep her in mind and look at the others just in case you might like one of them."'
Nick gave her head one more scratch before standing. "Smart. " he smiled and headed down the aisles examining all of them. They were all cute but he still liked the first best. "Do you see any you like?"
Dustin smiled at him and walked off down the aisles with him," umm I saw some but they were all going to get really big and would stay quite as small as the first one will."
"So sounds like everything is pointing to the first one " he grinned heading back down to pet the puppy again.
"Go on and get her." He replied with a smile. "She liked you the most i think."
Nick smiled and went to her cage again. The owner got her out and handed her to Nick. The puppy licked him furiously wagging it's tail in glee.
Dustin came up behind him and smiled," Yup she will keep you company." He answered chuckling a little as he watched the puppy lick all over Nick
Nick laughed a little and the guy grabbed the paperwork "You guys van fill this out quickly and just hand it in if you want" he smiled getting a pink collar and leash for her.
Dustin took the small puppy from his boyfriend," you fill it out I'm just paying for everything." He said looking at Nick. Seeing how happy he was made everything worth it for Dustin
Nick took the papers and a pen and started filling it out. He paused to glance at the puppy and smiled continuing. He finished and passed it to Dustin for his signature. He took the puppy so he had free hands and sat her down holding onto the leash. The puppy sniffed aeound Dustin wagging her tail.
Dustin smiled as he held the small puppy in his arms. He didn't mind spending this money on Nick at all if it was going to help him with how long Dustin would be gone he would have given him anything to pass the time. He took the papers in one Hand and let Nock have the puppy as he signed and paid," alright Nicky she's all yours."
He hugged Dustin tightly before giving him a quick kiss "Thank you babe" he said quietly before leading her around. She didn't know sit and fetch hut he was glad ti have something to do when Dustin was gone. "Lets go show her around her knew home"
Dustin hugged him back with a grin as he kissed Nick back gently," You're welcome." He answered letting him go and then looking at the puppy at their feet," alright home we go with little no name... You might want to name her though Nicky."
Nick thought for a bit and frowned slightly "ill work on that on the way home" he had tons of names but he didn't know if they fit her just right. "Do you have any suggestions? "
Dustin looked at the small ball of fur that was following them. She was walking right behind Nick," well she follows you around like she's your shadow." He said. "Or maybe you could name her Flower." He said thinking of Nick's favorite character in Bambi
"Yeeeeees. Shes not a skunk though but it's still a perfect name. Good thinking" he smiled and opened the car door to let her in. She just sniffed around the outside of the car so Nick lifted and sat her on the seat "Get in. Ill drive. You need Flower time '
Dustin laughed softly," I wasn't going to let you get a skunk as a pet... And now that she has a name she's going to be fine." He answered and then got in the car putting Flower on his lap. "Alright then." He answered gently petting the furry animal curled up in his lap.
Nick glanced in the rearview mirror and couldn't help a big grin "you two are adorable " he said pulling out of the parking lot and heading home
Dustin glanced up and grinned," Hmmm I think you are adorable."He answered holding to small puppy close to him. This was a good idea to do today something that got both of their minds off of the upcoming separation
A few minutes later they were pulling into the driveway. Nick stopped and turned the car off hopping out excitedly . He came around and opened the door for Dustin.
Dustin got out of the car and put the puppy down at their feet. He chuckled softly seein that Nick was still just as excited about everything as he had been when they left
Nick went and opened the front door for them so they could head inside. He watched the small dog with a smile as she sniffed everything around her.
Dustin followed as they just let flower look and sniff around her new home.
Nick leaned against Dustin watching Flower explore. He slipped his arm around his waist.
Dustin put his arm around Nick's shoulders," Think she will be good company for a few months?" He asked leaning his head slightly against Nick's
"Ill still miss you more than anything but she will definitely help " he smiled and kissed his cheek softly.
"Yeah I know and I will miss you but it won't be long and I'll write to you everyday and talk to you on Skype and call you whenever I get the chance." He promised softly
"You better " he said before crouching. Flower bounded up to him and leapt into his arms licking all over. Nick chuckled rubbing and scratching her.
Dustin laughed," Why wouldn't I?" He asked watching nick with a grin
"Maybe you'd forget about me. " he shrugged sitting down and letting the puppy play on him.
Dustin frowned," How could you ever think that nick?" He asked sitting next to him
"Have you seen some of those army guys? Buff, handsome, close by..." he shrugged. "Im way over here and their right there"
Dustin frowned a little bit," Yes I've seen them. I went to basic with half of them. And so what that they look like that? I'm not going to leave you for one of them." He said," Besides there can only be one buff army man in a relationship." He answered
Nick smiled a bit "I guess... Sorry for worrying." He said stroking Flowers head softly. He wasnt really worried about him finding another guy he was just saying stuff to reassure himself.
Dustin looked at Nick," it's fine but seriously I'm not leaving you." He told him. "I know your worried about me going out there but I don't have a death wish and besides I have you to come back to don't I?" He asked putting his arm around him
Nick leaned over and gave him a quick kiss "Im not going anywhere " he said. Flower nudged her face between theres wanting attention again. Nick kissed Flowers head too and scratched behind her ears.
Dustin smiled and kissed him back softly," good thing you aren't." He answered laughing a little as he stroked Flower's soft fur. "Someone is jealous."
