SOLVED. Young Adult book involving another dimension and ultra cold temps [s]

I read this book in the early 1980's and it was for the young adult (say 5th to 7th grade) reader. This book would be classified as Fantasy/Sci-Fi.

In this book a group of scientists were working with ultra-cold temperatures and somehow opened a portal to another dimension. They saw the people of that dimension as two-dimensional objects...lines and shadows...abstracts.

The book continues with the interaction of the scientists and the "two-dimensional" people.

The surprise reveal at the end is that the scientists are the ones in another dimension, they tapped in to our dimension and we perceived them in the same "two-dimensional" way they saw us.
