Unless you're abusive, it's not possible for a review to be "bad." A ..."
Thanks for that, Jay! I have written reviews for most of the books I've read in 2015, but I've always been oh-so-scared to actually post them on my blog. I'm never abusive, not even for books that I've downright hated. No, what worries me is that my way of writing the review might not be quite up to the mark. I mean, it might end up being too vague... or too descriptive. I'm never sure, so I've never ended up actually posting them. But I can't really call myself a "book blogger" unless I post more book reviews, can I?

And... What exactly is the "correct" way of writing???
Aside from the rules of grammar, which can be broken, there are no rules. Writing is simply communication.
Consider this quote from Monty Python and the Holy Grail:
"First you must find... another shrubbery! (dramatic chord) Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here, beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle. ("A path! A path!") Then, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest... with... a herring!”
Such nonsense was a great success at the box office. Do you think that the authors were concerned that some people would not get what they were saying when they wrote the script? -Of course not!
Express yourself. Some people will appreciate it; some won't.
As to your skill as a writer: Writing is a craft. As such, it cannot be "perfected" in one lifetime. The best that you can hope for is to get a little better each day.
Post you reviews. Try to get a little better each day, and don't worry about the rest.
Good luck.

I review books and beta-read over at shewouldread.com. I'm looking to create a community of book bloggers, professional readers and aspiring authors where we can connect and share what's working for us and discuss best practices to make this book blogging world even better for readers, bloggers and writers. You can find me on Twitter as well at @shewouldread.

Next review will be on Soulshifter by Barbara Pietron.

Unless you're abusive, it's not possible for a review to be "bad." A review is an opinion, nothing more.If you've done an honest job on your review, that's all any reasonable person can expect. It's irrelevant whether or not people agree with or like your opinion.
People read reviews for two reasons:
1. Simply to see what other people thought before they decide on a purchase.
2. Because they appreciate the reviewer's taste and follow that reviewer, wanting to see what they've discovered lately.
No one reads a review expecting 'a really good read.' That's what the books are for!
Forget your nervousness. Simply express your opinion honestly, and you'll do fine.
Good luck.
