I guess they're not making much profit off my discounted purchases, but i do love going in there. So thankful some stores are still around -- retail choices have changed drastically.

Yesterday, while I was at our local mall, I visited the Books-a-Million (BAM) outlet, and bought myself two books. One is
New Strong's Exhaustive Concordance (to the Bible), which replaces an older edition I've owned for 40 years, that was literally fallen apart. The other is a story collection,
American Midnight: Tales of the Dark. So I've fulfilled my challenge to support physical bookstores for another year!
That's great! We'll keep doing our part... In fact, I'm headed to the bookstore today to pick up some Christmas gifts (I hope). They probably won't be books, but I always love the toy/game selection this time of year. Of course, I'll be perusing books as well... I can't get that close and not look!

We can still compose poetry and peruse classic literature.Indeed we can! And that shall be my intention... But I also just placed an order online which I shall pick up tomorrow in person. (First time ever ordering from B & N online...) As soon as these holidays are over, a friend and I are going book shopping. :-)

It usually takes me until late December to complete my "support bookstores" challenge in any given year. But having won a $25.00 Barnes and Noble gift card earlier this month through the wellness program where I work, and being in Harrisonburg, Virginia (which is home to a large brick-and-mortar Barnes and Noble bookstore) last week, I took the opportunity to redeem it. With that deduction, it didn't cost me much to buy copies of the anthology
Golden Age Detective Stories, and of
Mycroft and Sherlock by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse.
They both sound really interesting Werner - and well done! 👏"Wellness program" bamboozled me though, so Iooked it up and am not really any the wiser. Can you explain in a couple of sentences, or not? I don't want to divert the thread ...
Jean, good question! "Wellness" programs are employer-sponsored programs (consisting of short webinars, challenges, exercise and weight logs, etc.) encouraging employees to practice healthy lifestyle habits, thus reducing sick days and medical insurance claims. In the U.S., they're fairly common, and typically include incentives such as gift cards for employees who rack up a high number of "wellness points" in a certain period, like a school semester (which is how I got my gift card. :-) )
