I think Saorise will make a great Melanie/Wanderer http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1517260/

Pene|ope • Temp Hyperfixation: WC & OMV (readingfever) | 25 comments Me too! She's different than I imagined, but I think she fits the part well. Can't wait to see it!

Jacqueline (jterbrack) I loved her in City of Ember, another favorite book of mine.

Marissa-

Are you planning on doing a night out with the SLC dwellers? I was so sad I missed the Beautiful Creatures GNO.

Laura (shespeaksbooks) | 20 comments I'm so curious how they will deal with the internal dialogue of Melanie/Wanderer.

Linda (woodthrush) | 10 comments Count me in for the movie night!

Megan (meganmreads) Anyone see the movie yet?

What did you guys think?

I saw it, but can't say I loved it. It was close to the book, but I think it had too many lulls and not enough was explained or developed. If I hadn't read the book, I'd be really disappointed and I'd probably think the story wasn't very good.

They had Melanie speak in a voice over and Wanda speak to Melanie out loud. I thought it was handled well in order to convey the fact that Melanie was in there and they could talk to each other.

The cast was great.

I'm just not blown away or impressed. I'm really glad I didn't drag my husband to see it. He would have been bored. Plus, I don't think he would have cared about the characters without all of the development that the book had and the movie lacked. I'll stick to recommending the book. I loved the story so much and I felt like the movie was just sort of... lacking. I don't know. I'm beginning to think there wasn't enough action to make an entertaining movie in the first place.

Curious to hear everyone else's thoughts!!

Roslyn Russell | 18 comments I went and saw the film today with my sister who hadn't read the book. There were things that were great, and I'm glad they kept the main plot and ending the same as the book.

I think part of the appeal of the book for me was the distinct personalities of Wanderer and Melanie, and I didn't get a sense of that in the film at all. Both characters were kept pretty bland and none of Wanderer's back story was explained at all.

I enjoyed the film but it wasn't amazing. I'd have found it pretty disappointing if I hadn't read the book.

oh shoot I was trying to delete my post that I put in the wrong section and I deleted someone else's SOOOO sorrry

Tanya (mommytanya) | 125 comments OK SLC peeps went and saw the movie last night. I got to talk to some of you but not everyone. I'm curious to what people thought. I know there were a few who hated it - they coincidentally were also the people who hadn't read the book.

Personally it was not nearly as bad as I had expected it to be. In fact I kind of liked it for what it was. It wasn't amazing or great but I enjoyed it. However I think a lot of it is because I had the background knowledge from the book. There were a lot of emotions and feelings that were unexplained. I don't think they made it clear just how intertwined Melanie and Wanderer's emotions were in regards to Jamie and Jared. It's the whole reason she went out there in the first place! Also the movie was LONG and dragged at parts. I was sad how cheesy the love square(?) came across in the movie because that struggle was something I found really interesting in the book.

I'm glad I watched it and I'd encourage anyone who liked the book to see it. Oh yeah and I HATED the girl they picked for Wanda at the end.

Linda (woodthrush) | 10 comments Tanya, I agree. I liked the movie, but I had read the book (and loved it), so I had all the information needed to fill in any gaps the movie created. I was actually impressed with their rendition of the cave housing, bath area, farm field, etc. It was exactly how I pictured it in my mind. I can, however, 100% see how people who have not read the book might think the movie was a bit corny and ridiculous. It definitely had its corny moments, and *some* sub-par acting.

Emily | 21 comments I think the premise of the story was good. I hated the way it was developed. It, unfortunately, reaffirmed my hatred for all things Stephanie Meyer. It was way too long and there were too many artsy shots for artsy sake in the movie. Cut out 10 or 12 of those Wander/Melanie staring off into the distance and it could have been at least 30 min shorter.

I kind of love that you just called it a love square. :)
