Marissa-
Are you planning on doing a night out with the SLC dwellers? I was so sad I missed the Beautiful Creatures GNO.

What did you guys think?
I saw it, but can't say I loved it. It was close to the book, but I think it had too many lulls and not enough was explained or developed. If I hadn't read the book, I'd be really disappointed and I'd probably think the story wasn't very good.
They had Melanie speak in a voice over and Wanda speak to Melanie out loud. I thought it was handled well in order to convey the fact that Melanie was in there and they could talk to each other.
The cast was great.
I'm just not blown away or impressed. I'm really glad I didn't drag my husband to see it. He would have been bored. Plus, I don't think he would have cared about the characters without all of the development that the book had and the movie lacked. I'll stick to recommending the book. I loved the story so much and I felt like the movie was just sort of... lacking. I don't know. I'm beginning to think there wasn't enough action to make an entertaining movie in the first place.
Curious to hear everyone else's thoughts!!

I think part of the appeal of the book for me was the distinct personalities of Wanderer and Melanie, and I didn't get a sense of that in the film at all. Both characters were kept pretty bland and none of Wanderer's back story was explained at all.
I enjoyed the film but it wasn't amazing. I'd have found it pretty disappointing if I hadn't read the book.
oh shoot I was trying to delete my post that I put in the wrong section and I deleted someone else's SOOOO sorrry

Personally it was not nearly as bad as I had expected it to be. In fact I kind of liked it for what it was. It wasn't amazing or great but I enjoyed it. However I think a lot of it is because I had the background knowledge from the book. There were a lot of emotions and feelings that were unexplained. I don't think they made it clear just how intertwined Melanie and Wanderer's emotions were in regards to Jamie and Jared. It's the whole reason she went out there in the first place! Also the movie was LONG and dragged at parts. I was sad how cheesy the love square(?) came across in the movie because that struggle was something I found really interesting in the book.
I'm glad I watched it and I'd encourage anyone who liked the book to see it. Oh yeah and I HATED the girl they picked for Wanda at the end.
