Character Development

Has any one else read "The Light Between Oceans"? I loved the book overall, the writing was beautiful and the moral choices of the characters thought provoking. However, I found myself wishing that 'Isabella'in particular had more depth to her character. (spoiler alert) Her motivations are supposed to be clear, but her inner life isn't really written into the book. She doesn't appear to wrestle with or even grasp that she may have made a mistake, even really when she is forced to decide in the end between Tom and the child. Did anyone else like her?

I'm in a book discussion group that discussed this book and that was the consensus. Most of us liked the books, but her characterization was one of the weaknesses. A good read if you don't think about it too much, perhaps--loved the setting and the time period.
