Angel, it sounds like you're looking for a manuscript assessment before you begin the editing process. My husband and I operate a small editing, assessment and reviewing business. Here's a link to our page detailing what our assessments include:

I am not a hater. Make your pitch. There is always room for one more editor/beta reader/book reviewer/ etc. So, good luck to you!

I know there are a lot of people that are good editors. How does one really find a good one. I don't want continue to put out money for less than good work but I don't want to break the bank. I have joined this group in hopes to find one. There are many offers for certain prices but how does the one who is editing know that it is perfect when someone else can find their mistakes. Does the editor offer a refund/discount is there are over a certain amount of mistakes still found? Is there a level of errors that is acceptable? Is there a such thing a perfect editing? I know I have a lot of questions being a newbie but I just want to understand better and save myself some time and money. All information is helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Stephen

Hope this helps!
Lea

Should I spend 1000 spread across ten people?
Should I spend the same 1000 spread across two different people?
Should I give it all to just one?
I am not writing a lot but still want the work to be good.
Thanks again to all.
Stephen

1. beta readers
2. editor
3. proofreader
If I only had $1,000 to spend, I would use free beta readers, a paid editor, and a paid proofreader.
Proofreading is cheaper than editing; so, the bulk of your money should probably go to an experienced, professional editor.

Hello Stephen,
I am an editor and my advice is similar to Lea. Whoever you choose, definitely get a sample before agreeing to work with them. The sample is usually very small but it tells you how the editor works and whether they will be a good fit for your work while at the same time they can tell you what type of edit you require.
I would also suggest getting a couple of samples done by different editors so you can compare.
There are plenty of free beta readers out there or, if willing, you can hire one but I can't recommend enough hiring a developmental editor. They can really help you streamline your work and a good one should be more than willing to discuss plot points, structure, characters, etc with you, ironing out any details. They are your silent partner, willing to help you but never take over. Are you confident of the different types of edits available because I do have a word doco which outlines the edits I do and explains how they work. Usually I send it to potential clients but feel free to PM me or send me an email on dontgrumblegiveawhistle@gmail.com and I'll send it to you as a reference. I can also help you out any time of you have any other questions about editing.
Thanks and good luck,
Katie-bree.

Wow! that is all I can say. I've just compared the previous chapters from the other editor to the one you sent back. Wow!
You are at the top of my list. I love the fact that you educate. I do know of a few people that are in the process of writing and I will let them know about you.
If you were close by I would give you a hug. (Not trying to be creepy)
Many thanks.

Another great job in editing my short story. This is the kind of service I have been looking for. Brings out the best in what you're writing.
Thanks.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2015

Thank you, thank you. Helen.

Thank you, again, for your continuous business.
It has been a pleasure working with you!

I'm looking for an African-American female editor. (Not because I'm racist or something, but I would just feel comfortable given my subject matter is for African American women by and African American woman)
How long would it take you to review about 50 pages? Because I really want it done within a week so I can upload it by New years. I also have a second book which hopefully i can get done by next week (also about 50 pages)

Thank you for your interest in my copy editing service.
I have sent you a private message.

My manuscript required a thorough line-edit and she was very reasonably priced.
Helen worked on my 80K manuscript for four weeks. She did a thorough edit with many notes and corrections.
She provided me with additional editorial sheet and grammar sources. She also gave me her honest opinion and some valuable points.
Since you can see the dates on the track changes, you will be able to see how much and how often she worked on the manuscript, as well that she went through it twice.
I implemented most of her changes/corrections and I learned a lot. Her critique is very constructive, you’ll definitely improve your skills and hone your craft. What more can you ask for?
I was very happy with HKelleyB’s Editorial Services and I’ll definitely recommend it to my friends.
