I've read the first 5 chapters, and I'm liking it so far.

Latham House (view spoiler)[The whole idea of having this place for people who have TB to go to is an interesting idea. It probably wouldn't be the most cheerful place to be, since 1 in 5 of the people there won't make it out alive. (hide spoiler)]

Lane (view spoiler)[He seems like a nice guy, and kind of nerdy, in a good way. I wonder about the whole thing with Sadie at camp, and if maybe he wasn't really the one who sent that note, which is why he has no idea why Sadie was so unhappy to see him. (hide spoiler)]

Sadie (view spoiler)[She and her group of friends seem interesting, with the ways that they do things that they aren't supposed to to make people like the nutritionist mad. (hide spoiler)]

Hannah (view spoiler)[She seems like a nice girlfriend for Lane. (hide spoiler)]

I've now read through chapter 10. This is a pretty quick read so far.

Lane (view spoiler)[I'm glad that I was right about him not really sending that note to Sadie at camp. Also, I'm glad he's in with Sadie's group now, since I think he'll be happier with them. (hide spoiler)]

Hannah (view spoiler)[It was definitely not cool of her to write that essay about Lane that eulogized him, and I can see why he didn't want to be with her anymore if she thought of him in that way. (hide spoiler)]

Sadie (view spoiler)[I like her, and she seems like she probably has an interesting story. She definitely seems to like Lane, so I hope something happens between them. (hide spoiler)]

I've now read through chapter 15.

Lane/Sadie (view spoiler)[I really like them as a couple, and I think that they are very cute together. I liked their first date, even though it was quite risky, but it was sweet that Lane was willing to take that risk for Sadie. (hide spoiler)]

I've now read through chapter 20. This book is so good.

Charlie (view spoiler)[What happened to him was so sad, and it's even sadder that his death could have been preventable if his med sensor had been on. (hide spoiler)]

Sadie (view spoiler)[I wish she didn't feel like she had to break up with Lane, but I can see why she's upset and how she's afraid to fall for him even more when in the real world the relationship won't be the same. It's clear that she still likes him though. (hide spoiler)]

Nick (view spoiler)[Clearly, he's liked Sadie, but she never felt the same way, I guess. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished it and wow, this was so good. It was also sad, but I loved it.

but yeah, they remind me a lot of the houses for people way back when TB was bad. the basis is fascinating (hide spoiler)]

Lane(view spoiler)[ I like him so far too. I was pretty sure he hadn't sent the note either so good thing we were both right :)
The other table sounded miserable AND Lane seemed like he was working very very hard. I'm sad he got derailed but it might be nice for him to get to slow down and experience life a little (while he's still young) (hide spoiler)]

I was surprised when she honestly seemed surprised that it upset him. I'm glad Lane stood up for himself (hide spoiler)]

Sadie(view spoiler)[ I felt it. like the whole novel was working up to one of them not making it. I figured it was Sadie. I'm so sad how it was though, a terrible one-off moment when she was attacked. (hide spoiler)]

Lane(view spoiler)[ I liked him even more at the end. I'm so sad for how it all ended but I liked the hope that he has on moving on but still mourning her. (hide spoiler)]

I think the best part, though, was the note from the author. what an amazing story of how this research came about and where this author comes from.

Finished through Ch. 10

I agree with both of your comments through these chapters. I don't have much to add but I don't know the end, so I'll predict as I go. LOL

Latham reminded me of (view spoiler)[back in the day when they'd put lepers on an island. I don't know why but I pictured it being rather dark and eerie. I don't picture it as a true hospital, for whatever reason. It is supposed to be contemporary but I don't think they have a place specifically for those with TB. (hide spoiler)]

Lane and Sadie (view spoiler)[are both likable characters. I like how Lane tried to cover for Sadie in the library with a LAME story about ants. LOL Not too fast on his feet or too good of a liar, so that's good. LOL (hide spoiler)]

Hannah did seem like a (view spoiler)[good girlfriend for Lane, but I agree that her essay was not cool. IF she wanted to write something like that, at the very least she should have discussed it with him. What was her purpose? Not good at all. (hide spoiler)]

I am glad that Sadie realized that (view spoiler)[Lane didn't write that note or ditch her the night of the dance. What awful people that find something like that type of "prank" to be a joke or laughable. But I'm glad they had that talk in the gazebo and are now seemingly developing a friendship. I wasn't happy to see that Lane (view spoiler)[is not getting well at this point in time. He wanted so badly to just be "normal" and keep up with his education. How admirable is that! I hope he doesn't get real sick and that he can continue and follow his goal/dream. (hide spoiler)]

I was so upset (view spoiler)[that Sadie died and in the way she did! I saw her death coming for a while but I thought it would be simply due to her TB. (hide spoiler)]

Lane is (view spoiler)[a GREAT guy who really cared about Sadie, and even if their relationship were different in the real world, I still think he'd have loved her. He didn't care so much about her looks and other girls. I like the HEA! (hide spoiler)]
