Femke--was it a Dutch book or an English/American book that had been translated? It certainly sounds interesting.
edit: I went in and tried scanning a few Paranormal Mysteries, but, well there are pages and pages and pages. Why don't you try looking under that heading too, rather than zombie, apcolypse etc.

It does sound interesting! :D That's why I've been looking for it.. I go into that same shop in every city. No luck so far.

This reminds me of A Philosophical Investigation by Philip Kerr. Not exactly a yellow cover, but a man's face:

The replacement for the death penalty in the book is called "punitive coma" and is reversible, in case they find out you are actually innocent.
"LONDON, 2013. Serial killings have reached epidemic proportions-even with the widespread government use of DNA detection, brain-imaging, and the "punitive coma." Beautiful, whip-smart, and driven by demons of her own, Detective Isadora "Jake" Jacowicz must stop a murderer, code-named "Wittgenstein," who has taken it upon himself to eliminate any man who has tested positive for a tendency towards violent behavior-even if his victim has never committed a crime."
Definitely no mention of zombies in the book. It's a sci-fi thriller/mystery. However, I don't think there's the wife plotline. Maybe the wife you are thinking of is the female detective?

After Hessius Mann was convicted of his wife's murder, suppressed evidence came to light and the verdict was overturned-too bad he was already executed. But thanks to the miracles of modern science Hessius was brought back to life. Sort of.
Now that he's joined the ranks of Fort Hammer's pulse-challenged population, Hessius attempts to make a "living" as a private investigator. But when a missing persons case leads to a few zombies cut to pieces, Hessius starts thinking that someone's giving him the run-around-and it's not like he's in any condition to make a quick getaway...

The story goes something like this:
In the future there is a punishment worse than death, if you have committed a crime such as murder (the protagonist in this book is supposedly a murderer), you are killed for your actions, but then you revive and are a zombie like creature, but you still have your own thoughts, and are not really a zombie..yeah.
So the guy in this book is suspected to have killed his wife, is sentenced to 'death'. And then as a 'zombie' he goes to look for the real murderer of his wife.
Again, wife can be sister, and other things.. but I'm 80% sure this was the plot.
Please help!!!! When I google, I get the wrong things. And since it isn't really a zombie book, or about the apocolypse (which are all the search results), you guys are my only hope!
edit: aprox 2011-2012, the books was fairly new then (at least in holland it was)
