Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments The Kombucha Almeta and I drink comes in tea bags and the brand is Yogi, Kombucha Green Tea. In the USA you can get it in most grocery stores and health food stores. We order it by a case of 6 12-bag boxes on Amazon. Cheaper that way. It is absolutely delicious. Smooth and fruity. It smells wonderful, too. I've turned many people on to it. Not sure I'd go for the kind you grown yourself as a "mushroom."

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So if we recap this week into. Bok bok bok brrr and twinkle twinkle twinkle twinkle treacle. Your still going to argue there isn't magic mushroom tea involved here

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments They should be titled "The Articulate Ramblings of Rusalka".

I should totally write a book.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments LMAO Travis. You growing something in those cow patties you've not told us about?

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I woke up with a sore throat this morning so have been drinking hot lemon and honey drinks today. I have some chocolate-orange flavour tea to try later. I'm not normally a tea drinker but a friend told me that I just had to try it.

message 206: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Sounds like Jaffas in a tea cup. Hang on. Jaffas are Aussie aren't they? Not sure that can be translated.

You guys have... on those things. Terry's Chocolate Oranges or something.

message 207: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Bummer for the sore throat, Lisa! Hope it goes away soon!
There hasn't been any drinking in, Travels with Casey, so far but I'm early yet into the book :)

I had no idea Jaffas were Aussie.

Yes, this tea does sound like Jaffas or Terry's Chocolate Orange in a cup. That's what I'm hoping for because I absolutely love them!

I'll make you even more hungry now. I have got a meringue nest with strawberries and fresh cream for dessert later. Yum yum!

message 212: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Burger (tammyburger) | 806 comments I made pavlova this weekend. Yummy. Blueberries, strawberries, mango and kiwi. Made it with the liquid from a can of chick peas instead of eggs. Turned out great.

message 213: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I now want Jaffas.

Oh good, at least they are in the UK. Yup. Some of the important Aussie things I have to ship to the UK. Jaffas, Tim Tams (obviously), Violet Crumbles, Minties, Fantales.

Glad you're feeling a little better today. I've got a bit of a sniffle but I'm not going to get away with a sick day this week :(

That sounds delicious Tammy. Would never have thought of using chick pea liquid instead of eggs but might have to give it a go should I make a pavlova :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh no no no. Not Jaffa Cakes, which are British. Jaffas!

message 217: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie There's been some coffee drinking at the dog park in Travels with Casey, now :) no coffee for me though, just tea. It is a cinnamon spice tea. Added a splash of milk and yum!

Hope your sniffles clear up soon, Rusalka!
There has been an upside to being a stay at home doggie mom till I find a job, other than getting to be home with our dog, I haven't been sick :) being a receptionist and working as a physical therapy aide, I got sick all the time :(

Ahh, I didn't know they were different. Lol. In that case, no I don't think we have Jaffas here in the UK. Only Jaffa Cakes. They remind me a bit of Smarties, except Jaffas are bigger and rounder.

message 220: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments I just started The Restaurant at the End of the Universe this morning and if I were drinking anything stronger than coffee I would be in danger of tipping over.

pg 1 introducing "small blue creatures with more than fifty arms each, who are therefore unique in being the only race in history to have invented the aerosol deodorant before the wheel"

pg 4 "Vogons are not above a little bribery and corruption in the same way that the sea is not above the clouds..."

I'm going to need more coffee

message 221: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Jun 16, 2015 06:28AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments People used to roll jaffas down the aisles in the movie theatres. That does seem a waste, but point is, that definitely wouldn't work if they were jaffa cakes.

Yeah, bigger than smarties. We have smarties. Probably about the size of 10p coin but round. From memory. I went and checked my stash of coins and only have Euros left (spent all my pence last time I was there it seems) so that doesn't help.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I'm keeping up with Phryne and her tea, coffee, cocktail, wine drinking habits with my wine tonight. It's now 11.30pm on a school night though, so I should crash in a few. But there's always time for one more chapter...

I think you all just answered some of my confusion when in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time the MC mentioned something about a tube of smarties and taking the lid off to find a pencil inside. Smarties is a type candy in the US, it comes in a tube shaped package of sorts, but no lid and you couldn't hide anything...

message 225: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Those are swizzles here in the UK.

These are smarties

message 226: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I managed to find occasion to tipple last night while reading Gathering Blue. There was some drinking of water so I joined them by drinking wine.

There was one great LOL moment too! The MC is learning how to dye thread and her teacher shows her a large pot full of a very foul smelling liquid that is used to seal the color into the thread. After the teacher finishes explaining what it is used for she tells the MC "It's old piss!"

message 227: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Your smarties look more like sweet tarts to me

message 228: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh Smarties are like M&Ms, just a different company. Exactly as Sarah posted.

But we call what KimeyDiann posted Fizzers. But then there are two types of Fizzers here, those and then a chewy stick about 15cms long with sherbet in it. So Fizzers are a contentious issue in Australia. I call them both Fizzers.

message 231: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments smarties have chocolate in but skittles are chewy inside. we have m&m too but their shells aren't as thick as smarties. I don't eat smarties as they are made by Nestlé and they are on my boycott list.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Me too, Sarah. Don't eat Nestle!

We have Skittles too.

I agree, Jaffa Cakes are no good for rolling. They might make good frisbees however ;)

message 235: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments I am seriously falling down on this part of the toppler. Or I would be falling down if I was doing all the drinking I should.

I'm reading Wallbanger and there are many opportunities to tippler - apple pie, zucchini bread, pumpkin bread, a drunken hot tub party, lots of other drinking, a jeep ride here, a car ride there, a plane trip... a sip of port each.

But this LOL moment warranted a glass of port all on it's own: (view spoiler)

message 236: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments We also have Galaxy Minstrels which are like big smarties, except they all have brown shells.

message 238: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Now I see how smarties are skittles it was the packaging that made me think of sweet tarts

message 239: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Ah dear, Travis. Very much no.

But Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was written by a Brit, so it means we had most of the same old fashioned lollies. So we got almost all the references. But seeing I had never seen a Reece's Peanut Butter Cup until I was 18 (people traveled to the States and brought one back) I would have had no idea if it was American.

I still import peanut butter m&ms though through anyone who goes to North America. Can't get those here.

And yet Charlie from the origunal movie became a veterinarian 15 miles away in Lowville NY. At least I believe he played Charlie

message 243: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Mmmmm...candy...I ate an apple :) no candy in our house (at the moment). We do our best to not have it laying around. We will, however, buy a candy bar or two when we are grocery shopping as a snack on the way home :)

message 244: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie He did, Travis! I just read about that in one of those child stars and where are they now things :)

message 245: by Travis (new)

message 246: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Don't listen to Almeta! This is a great conversation about candy. Continue on! ;)
I'm at work so I can't read right now, but I can sneak away for a few minutes at a time to peruse the GR conversations since I'm not swamped today. :)

Those do look like skittles. Our M&M's are more primary colors and skittles are bright like those are.

@Rusalka, that made me LOL... MC = Main Character for me.

message 248: by Amanda (Mandy) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments I have to take my son to the dentist and was planning on picking up some tippling supplies. Now after reading this it looks like candy just made the list. M&Ms are my favorite. Whenever I am having a horrible day or my husband feels he needs to apologize for something he shows up with two of my favorite things--M&Ms and a Diet Coke.
