Exactly the same as Duffy. For me Toll the Hounds was one of my favorite reads of the series at that stage.
from my review:
The story is gripping, without doubt one of my fav’s of the series, there seems to be less side stories in this and more building the convergence of characters. At one stage I had to stop reading as I felt that I was reading faster and faster ( i already speed read) because my excitement was getting to a level where I need to know what was about to happen

Yay! I've been seeing so many posts from people saying they didn't like it as much as the others that I was starting to feel all alone. ;)I'm still playing catch up and am just starting chapter 15 of Deadhouse Gates. I'll probably have it finished by the end of tomorrow, though. It was a little hard to make myself read it because this book is more emotionally draining to me than the others. I haven't read past Toll the Hounds yet, but DG is the most heartbreaking in the series to me so far. I just kept dreading what I know is coming so I've had to get myself to a point where I was emotionally prepared to read it.
After this book, though, the series feels like it races along at breakneck speed and I get completely sucked in. The difficulty is going to be with pacing myself so I don't get too far ahead!
I thought I would have that problem too, but I'm finding that since this is my 2nd time thru I'm no longer so anxious and I'm finding it so much better to keep in pace with the group and the conversations.
I think the four chapters per week is rally making me read this a lot slower and thus enjoying it considerably more. Plus, SE rewards your attention, so whilst in the first read I couldn't read it fast enough, in this re-read I am savouring every word as I only need to do one chapter in a nights read.

This is where I'm at as well. Savouring the moment...pfft pfft excuse me, just spitting out a bit of sand and a couple of bones.

This book is just so wrenching to me that I kept finding excuses to out it off until now. This is my third time reading it. It's such a powerful volume.
I am loving Mappo and Icarium. I am extremely interested to learn more about that moment with the Seven cloaked figures(which I think represents the 7 gods that founded 7 cities. This was mentioned somewhere in the last chapter.) where Mappo's entire future changed. I'm guessing that's when he meets Icarium or something. Also, why does Icarium keep forgetting things? What is he searching for? What is Mappo trying to keep from Icarium and why doesn't Mappo want Icarium to get angry? And who the hell is Servent and what is up with Pust? Pust meeting Mappo and Icarium definitely is some kind of setup by Shadowthrone. Clarification... Icarium is the guy who created the clock and date system for Darujhistan right? If that is true, then this "Half Jaghut" is really old.
Also, extremely interested as to how he is half-blood Jaghut. Clearly he's not as powerful as Raest was, but he definitely is powerful. Want to know more !

you will see where I said that this was easily the best book in the series so far. And that's saying alot. I wonder if I will be as impressed the second time around.
