YES!!!!

Kate This is going to be a disaster. No way a movie (particularly by WB) lives up to the fabulousness that is this novel. I never want something I've five-starred to be made into a movie.

Kela Esther I'm having mixed feelings.... I love to see any I loved come to life, but there have just been too many disasters with the book to movie adaptations these past few years.

Kristine I agree with Esther. Mixed feelings...

Beverly With all the great reviews, I think my expectations were too high. I was actually disappointed with the book so I'm hoping the movie will be better.

Kate .....?!

To each her own, I guess.

Beverly Anne wrote: ".....?!

"To each her own, I guess". Exactly so. We are all individuals unique in our likes and dislikes and it is each person's right and privilege to express their opinion whether it is for or against the popular opinion. No one should take umbrage if their opinions are not matched by everyone.

If it makes you feel better, I didn't dislike the story completely. This is my Goodreads review.

Kate I don't take umbrage at all. I'm sorry if it sounded that way.

I just really enjoyed this book and its one of the few this year lol. I feel like sad almost when other people don't because it doesn't make them that happy.

What was your book of the year ? Maybe I'll find a new one to love. :)

I have enjoyed many books newly released this year. They didn't all make me happy but I enjoyed their stories. I can't think of one that outshines the others. That may change when I read Jim Butcher's 1'st Steampunk book, Aeronaut's Windlass. Based on the pre-released chapters, I think it will be a very enjoyable read.

There is a book I will recommend that you might enjoy and which will be available in December. I read it in beta and it made me "happy". It is The Death of Dulgath by Michael Sullivan. Even though it is #3 in his Riyria Chronicles series, it can be read as a stand alone.

Kate I've added it to my TBR, thank you!

I read a lot of books that I enjoy for one reason or another, not just the ones that make me "happy." But there are some that just strike a chord, and this was one. I doubt it would appeal to fans of high fantasy or sweeping epics, but it was a fun little story.

I also read When She Woke this year, which was very well-written and teemed with commentary on social issues and political values, and it did not make me "happy." But I did like it very much, and would recommend all women read it. (All men, too, if we could convince them; but alas, I doubt they would condone it.)

Monica I guess im one of a few who thought this book was boring. But I love movies and will go see anything

Kevin What I don't understand is how so many women/girls rave about this book yet the main male character is very abusive to the main female character. He constantly attacks and insults her, yet women find this book romantic?? Is it 50 Shades of Uprooted??

Bipeda Implume I don´t think he´s abusive. Just very rude.
For the first part of the book we have Agnieshka hating him and thinking he´s sucking her soul or something like that, so she sees him as abusive. Before that, there is a part when he thinks she is a spy and he behaves quite violent. Then it changes. He is still rude, but he is not presented as a monster any more.
It isn´t romantic, but it´s not violence disguised as romance either like 50 shades...

Patricia Book to movie adaptation ... The Hobbit film series ... Great Success
Book to Live Stage ... War Horse ... Michael Morporgo ... Smashing Success

Reading a book lets you paint the back drops ... Some book adaptions come close to your vision ... and some fall way short.

Book Adaptions that fell short for me:

1.) Memoirs of an Invisibleman By H.F. White
2.) Inkheart By Cornelia Funke
3.) Child 44 By Tom Smith

I hope that who ever writes the adaption for Uprooted by Naomi Novik does justice to the story.
There is hope because The Chronicles of Narnia the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis was nicely done.

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* This is all going to be shot on a green screen probably which is almost always a huge disappointment. I feel like it is going to remind me of Jupiter Rising which could have been awesome but then...

Noël I'll only be happy with this arrangement so long as UPROOTED doesn't end up like a Percy Jackson film (may the book gods forgive them), and follow along the lines of a Lord of the Rings movie or a Chronicles of Narnia film--in quality I mean. Those are some very well done movies and I'd like to see this book come to life on screen, and not ruin the Uprooted shape book inside our mind castles. But I don't know if film makers are even capable of that anymore. They have to Hollywood-fyi everything.

I get that, but The Martian was alright

Sarah it won't change the fact that tom hiddelston is the main male character in my head. go ahead, make it.

He'd be good. I might go for someone born in the 60s rather than 80s though... Ben Bratt?

Sarah sometimes I'm like oh Hollywood, why do you ruin characters by shaving off 30 years or changing other important parts of them? but in Hiddleston's case I was on board with it. but yes, Ben Bratt- good call! he works also!

Mrsbooks So is this really going to be made? Any links?

Sheneve Butler That was two years ago. I haven't heard a peep since, so is this movie still happening?

I'm not sure how this will work. They won't do Alosha justice, no one will be how you pictured them because the producers will be more interested in seeing this movie succeed, so they'll hire actors that they think will fill the seats.

Peter As I read this book, I was thinking it wouldn’t make a good movie because it’s too complicated. Should be ok if they simplify it a bit and make some things more obvious.

Lynne Randolph I can't find any updates on the movie moving along. :(

I saw she has a new book Spinning Silver, any good?

Also, loved Aeronaut's Windlass! I wish the second one would come out already!

Kylie Crawford Holy crap I'm so excited! Novik is excellent.

This will be an interesting project to take on, hopefully they let the author have a good amount of input (we've seen what can happen when they're sidelined)

kellybuds To add to the comments about who should play the Dragon, I have to disagree. Its said more than once in the book that although he is very old in years, the ONLY signs of aging are a few frown lines and crinkles by his eyes. He is said to look like a young man that could pass for just a few years older than Nieshka and shes what? 17?. B Bratt and Hiddelston are much too old in age for the part. Also for Hiddleston to be only 37, he looks much older to me.

Flita Fernandes YES, I'm super excited!!!

Selena Villegas Honestly, the Dragon ruined the book for me. I get the whole Beauty and the Beast thing or whatever, but the relationship between the Dragon and Nieshka could of been better developed. Hopefully the movie can fix that. I only really cared about Kasia. But the world they lived in was beautifully written, and the magic was so dope,it was what encouraged me to keep reading.

I agree I guess. No need to ruin this

How does it ruin it? The book will always be fabulous. If the movie sucks, it doesn’t ruin the book.

It's not an easy thing to explain but the images I have in my mind can easily be messed with. As an example, I was reading book 3 of The Darkest Minds when the movie trailer came out. The awful casting choices they made really messed with pictures I had of the characters in my head while I was reading it. that put me on tilt. I try stay away from the movies if I can.

Nathalie Nooooo!!! I don't want to share! Stop it! Now it's translated in russian and ... nobody's capable to get the book like i do, it won't ever be the same, they'll spoil it all, too many people will discuss movie with it's characters, not the book, and not my characters the way I see them. Please don't... I guess i'm going to spent the next few decades in a bunker. Have a good time watching! T_T

Madison Comstock i don't know how i feel about this. i just don't. Am I going to see it? Yes, of course, because curiousity is a cruel, unrelenting demon. Is it going to be true to this gorgeous, wonderful piece of art that is this book? Most likely not. But I'm not going to complain.
However, if they do not get my boy Dragon right hell will be risen.

Beecause Books I do actually look forward to the movie adaptation because I did not finish the book. Couldn't make a good connection to the plot or characters. I want to see if my feeling change for the movie.
