Just speculation.
Meluan's hatred and anger towards the Edema Ruh just seems ridiculously disproportionate to the severity of the perceived slight against her and her family.

She hates them so much that she encourages genocide. The nobility can certainly be unreasonable and childish, but this is just really, really extreme to the point of not really making sense.

Maybe she thinks her sister didn't run with an Edema Ruh out of love, but was actually kidnapped by one. Either way, her sister running away with a commoner would stain her family's honor.
